"..."
Great for relieving boredom. Super practical.
After several encounters, Chen Yu had more or less figured out her two faces.
One was sharp-tongued and proud.
The other was soft-spoken and socially anxious.
Looking at the beautiful face before him, filled with disgust, disdain, and contempt, Chen Yu snatched back his answer sheet without expression and challenged her. "What, are you that clever? Can you answer these questions?"
Xiang Baiwei turned her head aside with a cold laugh. "Trying to use me to get the correct answers? Do you think I'd fall for that?"
"Tch."
Chen Yu laughed.
"If you don't know, just say so. Why put on an act?"
With that, Chen Yu took his answer sheet and made to leave the room, only to find her blocking the doorway. "Move aside."
Xiang Baiwei did not budge.
Chen Yu stood a head taller than her as they faced each other.
Xiang Baiwei tipped her head up slightly, narrowed her eyes at Chen Yu, and said each word distinctly. "You. Think. I. Can't. Do. It?"
"What else?" Expressionless, Chen Yu pointed at the test paper in his hand. "These questions cover extremely obscure subjects, and there are plenty of logic problems too. Finishing the paper in half an hour is practically impossible, unless you're a fairy."
A fairy?
The corners of Xiang Baiwei's lips lifted slightly.
"If I did it, I wouldn't even need half an hour."
"Oh?" Chen Yu raised an eyebrow. "Really? I don't believe you."
Xiang Baiwei frowned and immediately wanted to prove herself, but caught on at once. "You're trying to provoke me?"
"Why would I provoke you?" Chen Yu looked puzzled. "Only a fairy descended to the mortal world could finish this paper in half an hour. Are you a fairy?"
"..."
Xiang Baiwei narrowed her eyes.
She snatched the test paper from Chen Yu's hand. He had gotten six questions wrong anyway, so proving just one would not affect anything.
With a cold laugh, she raised the paper and pointed to a question with a slender, fair finger.
"This one. The answer is B."
"Just guessing?"
Xiang Baiwei fixed her gaze on Chen Yu. "Are you questioning me?"
"I'm not questioning you." Chen Yu remained expressionless. "You gave the answer without even looking at the question. What is that if not guessing? And honestly, even if you happened to guess this one correctly, it wouldn't prove anything."
"?"
Xiang Baiwei frowned.
She had not guessed. She knew the answer at a glance.
Because she had written the questions.
Never before in her life had anyone questioned her. Xiang Baiwei immediately looked at the next incorrect answer on Chen Yu's paper. This time, she made a show of studying it. "This one. The answer is A."
"Ha-ha."
Chen Yu was amused.
"That's hilarious. Anyone with half a brain knows the correct answer is B, all right? First, the question says... then this part... finally, look at the answers... it's obviously B. With skills like that, you have the nerve to claim you can finish the paper in half an hour?"
Listening to Chen Yu's faulty reasoning, Xiang Baiwei gave a cold laugh. "You truly are hopelessly stupid!"
The next moment, she pinpointed exactly where Chen Yu had gone wrong.
Yet faced with Xiang Baiwei's logically airtight explanation, Chen Yu merely shook his head and said:
"Really? I don't believe you."
"You're wrong. I'm right."
"No, you're definitely wrong."
"..."
They argued back and forth several times.
Chen Yu waved impatiently. "Fine, fine, fine. You're right, you're right, happy now? I'm not wasting any more time on you. Goodbye!"
With that, he took his answer sheet and made to leave the room.
"Stop right there!"
He had barely taken a few steps when a powerful surge of spiritual energy suddenly arose behind him. Chen Yu felt a terrifying presence lock onto him in an instant!
He immediately stopped in his tracks.
Turning his head back,
He saw anger spreading across Xiang Baiwei's face.
By this point, it was no longer a matter of who was right about the question. It was a matter of dignity.
Since neither would concede and their argument over this question showed no sign of ending, Xiang Baiwei snatched the answer sheet from Chen Yu's hand and simply found another question he had gotten wrong.
"This one. The answer is D!"
She spoke angrily.
Chen Yu glanced at the question.
[Question seventeen...]
Struggling to suppress the smile threatening to lift his lips, Chen Yu made a show of leaning closer to study the question carefully, then paused and put on a stunned expression.
"Oh, it really is! You're right!"
"Could you really be a fairy?"
Hearing those words from Chen Yu, Xiang Baiwei's anger vanished instantly. The corners of her lips rose slightly, and her lips parted, but what came out was, "Hmph. Hopelessly stupid."
The same words, "hopelessly stupid," now carried an unmistakable note of delight.
"I was wrong. I never imagined you were this amazing. It seems I really did underestimate you. Sorry." As he spoke, Chen Yu quietly corrected the three mistakes she had pointed out. "But I have to hand in my paper now. Goodbye."
"Mm."
Thoroughly satisfied, Xiang Baiwei no longer tried to stop him.
Chen Yu walked out with his corrected paper, thinking, I just hope that damned proud girl corrected them for me in order.
Relying on his own abilities alone, he would have struggled to pass the assessment no matter what. Having happened to run into Xiang Baiwei and noticed how confident she seemed, Chen Yu had employed a little trickery.
Senior Brother Yan and Senior Sister Lü were still waiting where they had been before. When she saw Chen Yu come out, Lü Yanyan was the first to stand.
"Finished?"
"Yes, I'm done."
Chen Yu nodded.
As he spoke, he handed the paper to Senior Brother Yan.
Taking the paper, Senior Brother Yan glanced behind Chen Yu. Seeing no one else, he looked puzzled, then took the answer key from his pocket to compare them.
Beside him, Lü Yanyan noticed that Chen Yu seemed a little nervous and walked over with a smile. "Don't be nervous, junior brother. Even if you don't pass the assessment this time, you'll have gained experience. I'm sure next time you'll..."
Just as Lü Yanyan reached this point,
Senior Brother Yan announced:
"Three wrong, seventeen correct... congratulations. You've passed the assessment."
At those words, Lü Yanyan, who had still been earnestly comforting Chen Yu a second earlier, froze. Her eyes widened as she turned in disbelief toward the test paper in Senior Brother Yan's hand, immediately snatched it from him, and checked it against the answer
Key for a while.
Her expression grew increasingly excited, and she spoke in utter delight:
"Huh?"
"You really passed!"
As she spoke, Lü Yanyan could not help patting Chen Yu's shoulder. "Junior brother, you're amazing!"
Senior Brother Yan said, "You've passed the Heavenly Union Association's assessment, but engraving your identification token will take some time. You can come collect your membership token tomorrow morning."
"Thank you, senior brother." Chen Yu smiled and nodded.
Hearing the result announced, Chen Yu breathed a sigh of relief and unconsciously glanced toward the room.
Meanwhile, in the room on the other side.
After hearing Chen Yu admit his mistake of his own accord, Xiang Baiwei immediately felt relieved and content, her thoughts flowing freely as her knitted brows relaxed.
But before she could enjoy her happiness for long,
Suddenly,
She realized something:
"...Wait."
"That's not right!"
