History

Outer Sect Neighbor and Assessment Dispute

Xiang Baiwei lives next door to Chen Yu on Emerald Cloud Peak. During his Heavenly Union Association assessment, she recognizes his attempt to obtain answers from her and initially refuses to cooperate. He nevertheless benefits from her answers; when she confronts him afterward, his threat to repeat an earlier unpleasant tactic makes her leave without reporting him. Her apparent association connections and balance of ten thousand Contribution Points lead Chen Yu to suspect that her background is unusual 43 44.

Surveillance and the Key Seal

Xiang Baiwei becomes suspicious when Chen Yu repeatedly evades her despite appearing to be only a fourth-layer Qi Refining cultivator. She considers whether he knows the Qi-Concealing Art and recalls sensing a “Key Seal” in his room. The expected bearer was a woman, making Chen Yu’s possession of it puzzling 60 80.

Her surveillance continues until Chen Yu catches her disguised beneath a cloak of grass. He blinds her with Glowing Jade and restrains her with his Binding Rope. Her frightened demeanor abruptly changes into cold defiance. After an unsuccessful attack and a second restraint, she explains that the Key Seal is her organization’s token and identifies that organization as the White Lotus Sect 77 79 80.

During the attack on the Dao Sect’s new-disciple procession, she also searches for Chen Yu while fighting two black-robed attackers. Her concern includes the possibility that he carries the Key Seal. She later tells Auntie Shi that she has recovered from her injuries 64 81.

Recruitment and Information Trading

After discovering Chen Yu’s hidden strength, Xiang Baiwei recommends him to Auntie Shi, proposing a background investigation followed by recruitment if no problems emerge. Auntie Shi reveals that Zhang Jiuge has independently recommended him and instructs Xiang Baiwei to concentrate on cultivation ahead of possible sect turmoil 81.

Xiang Baiwei later confirms that Wu Wenjie was not a White Lotus Sect member, overturning Chen Yu’s assumption about his affiliation. Seeking information about another covert organization, she agrees to exchange one hundred legitimately earned Contribution Points for Chen Yu’s account. She gathers the points through the White Lotus Sect and delivers them using Zhao Wentao’s token. Chen Yu accepts the transaction but refuses her invitation to meet a sect elder 116 117 118.

Inner Sect Reunion

After more than two years without speaking, Xiang Baiwei stops Chen Yu in the Inner Sect’s Scripture Repository. She warns that the Jade Void Sect and Evergreen Sect have attacked the Dao Sect and that Outer Sect disciples are being sent into battle. She also names the Azure Void Society as another hidden faction operating within the sect 168 170.

She renews her recruitment offer, interpreting Chen Yu’s acquisition of the Key Seal as heaven’s will. He again refuses, doubting that the White Lotus Sect can replace the Dao Sect 170.

Black Mist Marsh Trial

Before the trial, Xiang Baiwei warns Chen Yu about its dangerous leaders, unknowingly describing him as the Poison Path head disciple rumored to be a “smiling tiger.” His appearance as a team leader confuses her. When another White Lotus Sect disciple accuses him of betrayal and plans to kill him, Xiang Baiwei urges restraint, but lacks the authority to stop her 177 178 180.

In the marsh, she attempts to pull Chen Yu away from a swarm of Ghost King Scorpions. Instead, he destroys and collects them. After he warns that the trial may be targeting her faction, she reciprocates with information: she witnessed Xiao Lei kill a disciple who had signaled for rescue. She also asks him to spare Chen Hong, unaware that he has already killed and refined her 183.

Xiao Lei subsequently pressures Chen Yu to help kill Xiang Baiwei. His apparently unsuccessful poison attack gives her an opportunity to escape. She returns to thank him and proposes cooperation against Xiao Lei, offering a powerful life-saving resource supplied by the White Lotus Sect 189 191.

Alliance Against Xiao Lei and Aftermath

Xiang Baiwei explains that Elder Wang can vouch for her and a few White Lotus Sect members after Xiao Lei’s death, but that protecting too many would expose him. She acknowledges that most of their people may be sacrificed. Chen Yu accepts the alliance only if Elder Wang also protects him and participates in the operation; Xiang Baiwei writes a coded message for Chen Yu to deliver 191 192.

After recovering, she helps test Chen Yu’s maze formation and poison traps, then crushes her signaling pendant to lure Xiao Lei into the ambush. She confronts Xiao Lei over the Dao Sect’s refinement of disciples, but is unsettled by Xiao Lei’s suggestion that she does not know where those practices originated 193.

During the battle, Xiang Baiwei fights at the front while Chen Yu attacks from behind, eventually using her protective treasure as a moving shield. She activates the Mystic Gang Sword Talisman after Chen Yu creates an opening and Elder Wang restrains Xiao Lei. The attack fails to kill their opponent, who reveals herself as Elder Jin occupying Xiao Lei’s body. Xiang Baiwei’s protective treasure is exhausted by the subsequent counterattack 194 195 196.

She survives the trial. Back at the Dao Sect, she calls after Chen Yu, but he deliberately ignores her, intending to sever their connection. Recalling Xiao Lei’s earlier words, she clenches her fists 198.

Appearance

  • Face: Described as beautiful, with expressive eyes that can shift from bright and carefree to cold and disdainful 43 80 193.
  • Complexion and build: Fair-skinned, with a slender, curving figure 80.
  • Height: Approximately a head shorter than Chen Yu when they stand face-to-face 43.

Personality

Xiang Baiwei alternates between a vacant, timid, easily frightened manner and an aloof, proud, confrontational one. A voice speaks within her soul, and she addresses it as a companion. Chen Yu observes that her two personalities do not share memories; the precise nature of this condition is not explained 77 81 116 193.

She sincerely believes that the White Lotus Sect’s resistance answers the Dao Sect’s abuse of disciples. Nevertheless, her knowledge of her own organization’s deeper history is limited, and Xiao Lei’s insinuations visibly disturb her 193.

Her loyalty does not prevent practical compromise: she accepts a plan that protects only a small number of faction members. She also shows gratitude independent of motive, thanking Chen Yu for saving her even after he bluntly explains that he preserved her life for tactical reasons 191.
