Background / History
Madara established his reputation during the Warring States era, sweeping across battlefields with Susanoo. His strength made him a symbol capable of upsetting the balance of the Five Great Nations. Before encountering Yemu, he regarded Hashirama Senju as his only worthy opponent 143.
He died before the main battlefield events. Orochimaru recovered his remains, which allowed him to expose Obito’s claim to be “Madara Uchiha” as an impersonation and later summon the real Madara 129 139.
Appearance
Madara initially appears with black hair and red armor. His resurrection restores a youthful, living body, while becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki changes his hair and attire 140 161 170 175.
- Eyes: Uses Sharingan during his early battles; his reclaimed Rinnegan is purple 143 171.
- Senjutsu features: Hashirama’s face and black markings appear on his chest after he absorbs Hashirama’s chakra 172.
- Six Paths form: White hair, black-and-white robes, nine orbiting Truth-Seeking Orbs, and a black monk’s staff 175.
- Perfect Susanoo: A colossal blue warrior with Karasu Tengu armor, wings, and enormous chakra swords 143.
Personality
Madara is proud, confrontational, and intensely attracted to powerful opponents. He begins his first encounter with Yemu using probing attacks, but becomes genuinely excited when Yemu neutralizes them. Even the possibility that Yemu has reached Six Paths level inspires curiosity rather than immediate retreat 140 141 142.
His love of battle does not make him accepting of defeat. After Yemu cleaves through his Perfect Susanoo, Madara refuses the result and launches another attack that threatens the shinobi below. Repeated losses turn his excitement into humiliation and fury, although he eventually acknowledges Yemu as the strongest shinobi he has fought 143 144.
He treats other people as instruments of his ambitions. Nagato is a vessel holding his eyes, Obito is a controlled pawn, and the tailed beasts are resources for his future rule. This outlook is ultimately turned against him when Black Zetsu reveals that Madara himself was only a vessel for Kaguya 168 169 171 172 179.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Rinnegan
Madara uses ocular powers throughout his battles and identifies similarities between Yemu’s unfamiliar eyes and the Rinnegan 140 141.
- Reclaims a Rinnegan from Nagato, whom he identifies as the bearer of his original eyes 169 171.
- Uses Chibaku Tensei to trap Hidan and Kakuzu 170.
- His Rinnegan cannot adequately track Yemu’s fastest movements, catching only fleeting afterimages 177.
Susanoo
Susanoo provides Madara with skeletal defenses, shields, chakra weapons, and the enormous Perfect Susanoo form 140 141 170.
- Perfect Susanoo: Wields huge blue swords and unleashes broad aerial slashes 143.
- Yasaka Magatama: Launches a projectile attack against Yemu’s God-Slaying Form 142.
- Combined armor: Envelops Hashirama’s Wood Human in Perfect Susanoo armor, creating a joint construct armed with massive blades 165.
- Limit: Yemu repeatedly cuts through both its armor and attacks, including the combined Wood Human form 142 143 165 177.
Fire Release, Wood Release, and Clones
Madara’s large-scale elemental attacks overwhelm the Akatsuki and inflict heavy casualties on the allied army 171 174.
- Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame: Releases a colossal destructive fireball across the battlefield 171.
- Wood Release: Helps destroy Sasori’s puppet forces and incapacitate Akatsuki members 171.
- Shadow clones: Five clones unleash Fire and Wood Release while the alliance attempts to attack his original body 174.
- Body Flicker Technique: Closes the distance on Kakuzu before delivering a kick through his chest 171.
Tengai Shinsei
Madara summons a meteor hundreds of meters across, intending to destroy the battlefield and terrify the Allied Shinobi Forces 141.
- The watching army remains unusually calm because Yemu has already demonstrated larger meteor attacks 141.
- Yemu stops the meteor with an invisible force field and crushes it into dust 141.
Reanimation Independence
Madara can free himself from Orochimaru’s Impure World Reincarnation restraints, making him an unreliable summon rather than an obedient weapon 144 167.
- His reanimated body restores itself after being split apart 143.
- He escapes Orochimaru’s control after his first defeat and promises another encounter with Yemu 144.
- He later judges his reanimated state insufficient to challenge Yemu and seeks a full resurrection through Nagato 167.
Senjutsu and Six Paths Techniques
Madara first gains senjutsu chakra from Hashirama, then reaches Six Paths level by absorbing the Ten-Tails 172 175.
- Truth-Seeking Orbs: Uses them as defensive barriers and alongside his staff to produce black fissures that annihilate Naruto’s Rasenshuriken barrage and Minato’s senjutsu attack 176 177.
- Limbo: Border Jail: Summons four clones associated with another dimension to surround Yemu; ordinary observers cannot sense their chakra 176.
- Sage Art: Yin Style Lightning Release: Begins casting the technique after Yemu stops his Limbo assault 176.
- Sage Art: Light Fang: Fires at Yemu, who avoids it using an illusion 177.
- Limit: Six Paths power does not close the gap with Yemu, who breaks his barriers, pierces Susanoo, and deflects his Truth-Seeking Orbs with a blade 177 178.
Demonic Statue, God Tree, and Infinite Tsukuyomi
Madara’s Eye of the Moon Plan centers on capturing the tailed beasts and imposing a worldwide illusion 172 174 176 178.
- Summons the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, whose chakra chains restrain the tailed beasts and drain their power 172 173.
- Extracts Naruto’s Nine-Tails chakra, leaving him near death 174 175.
- Summons the God Tree, whose roots and vines drain chakra and kill shinobi 178.
- Activates Infinite Tsukuyomi through the blood moon, ensnaring much of the shinobi forces and several Kage 178.
- Yemu remains unaffected and releases silver chakra that suppresses the genjutsu and dims the moon 178.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Red armor — Worn during his initial reanimated confrontation with Yemu 140 141.
- Six Paths Staff — Black monk’s staff wielded after becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki; a Truth-Seeking Orb is set into its tip 175 176.
- Truth-Seeking Orbs — Nine black orbs initially circle behind his Six Paths form and serve as offensive and defensive implements 175 176 177.
Relationships
- Yemu Hyuga — Rival and principal obstacle to the Eye of the Moon Plan. Madara acknowledges his strength, seeks stronger forms to challenge him, and unsuccessfully offers him a partnership 144 167 175 176.
- Hashirama Senju — Old rival and dearest friend. They cooperate against Yemu, and Hashirama later supplies senjutsu chakra despite Tobirama’s objections 161 164 165 172.
- Tobirama Senju — Distrustful opponent of Madara’s schemes. Attempts to interrupt the chakra transfer from Hashirama, but Madara drives him back with Fire Release 161 172.
- Orochimaru — Reanimator whose control Madara escapes. Orochimaru resents losing his summoned “pawn” and considers ways to deal with him 139 144 174.
- Obito Uchiha — Subordinate and impersonator. Madara places an explosive tag at his heart; Obito seeks its removal and fears becoming disposable after Madara’s revival 129 167 168.
- Nagato — Bearer of Madara’s Rinnegan and the means of his resurrection. Madara pressures him into Rinne Rebirth and subsequently removes one of his eyes 169 170 171.
- Black Zetsu — Hidden manipulator. Betrays Madara by piercing his chest and reveals that his purpose was to prepare a vessel for Kaguya’s resurrection 179.
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Reanimation and Duel with Yemu
Orochimaru summons Madara after Yemu defeats the alliance’s Kage-level fighters. Madara escalates from a punch and Fire Release to Susanoo, Tengai Shinsei, and Perfect Susanoo, but Yemu counters every attack 139 140 141.
Yemu’s newly completed God-Slaying Form cleaves through Madara and his Perfect Susanoo. Madara regenerates and attacks again, only to be struck down a second time. He eventually recognizes Yemu’s superiority, frees himself from the reanimation restraints, and departs with a promise to meet again 142 143 144.
Return Three Years Later
Madara returns among Orochimaru’s enhanced summons and eagerly anticipates seeing Hashirama suffer the same defeat he experienced. Recognizing that neither can defeat Yemu alone, he proposes a joint attack 161 162 164.
Their Susanoo-armored Wood Human and strongest attacks fail against Yemu’s Silver Dragon World-Ending Slash. Madara concludes that fighting indefinitely in an incomplete reanimated body is futile and leaves to find Nagato 165 167.
Resurrection and Tailed-Beast Capture
Madara cuts through Nagato’s mountain hideout and demands Rinne Rebirth. Konan and Kisame attempt to protect Nagato, but cannot stop him. The resurrection restores Madara’s living body, after which he turns on the Akatsuki and overwhelms its members 169 170 171.
After reclaiming a Rinnegan and absorbing Hashirama’s senjutsu chakra, he summons the Demonic Statue and captures the tailed beasts. Naruto’s resistance and the alliance’s intervention fail to prevent the extraction of Kurama 171 172 173 174.
Six Paths Battle and Betrayal
When Yemu severely wounds the Ten-Tails, Madara absorbs it and becomes its Jinchūriki. He offers Yemu a place in the Eye of the Moon Plan, presenting Infinite Tsukuyomi as an end to suffering; Yemu rejects it as retreat into false dreams 175 176.
Yemu defeats Madara’s Six Paths techniques and suppresses his worldwide genjutsu. As the battered Madara continues resisting, Black Zetsu pierces his chest and reveals the true purpose of his preparations: Kaguya’s resurrection through Madara’s body 177 178 179.
