"Uh..." Zhang Yao stared speechlessly at Luo De, who refused to let go of him. So that was what his prayer earlier had been about! I was wondering why he thanked the goddess for sending me to his side. Turns out he wanted me to be his bodyguard!

"Brother Zhang Yao, don't worry! I, Luo De, would never make you work for nothing. I'm a good friend of your captain's. Once we're out of danger and back aboard the ship, I'll tell your captain, Sea Wolf, all about this and have him reward you handsomely! Of course, I won't be stingy myself, either! Here, consider this a deposit. Once I'm safe, I'll give you a proper reward!" Seeing Zhang Yao staring at him, dumbfounded, Luo De hurriedly explained who he was and dangled a reward before him. Then, as though afraid Zhang Yao might change his mind, he pulled a ring off his finger and shoved it into Zhang Yao's hand.

Heh, tell our captain, Sea Wolf? Reward me handsomely? Once my identity gets exposed, I'll be lucky to get out alive, never mind a reward! Zhang Yao laughed inwardly. His identity couldn't stand scrutiny. How could he follow Luo De to meet the real captain? He immediately decided to find an excuse to reject Luo De's proposal, then coax some information out of him before getting far away from this trouble. But just as Zhang Yao was about to refuse, that dreamlike voice suddenly sounded in his mind:

"Rank E mission triggered: Luo De's request. Accept?" "Mission objective: Escort Luo De 10 kilometers away from the battlefield." "Mission reward: 200 experience points, 50 gold coins." "Mission failure: No penalty."

So this is a mission? Zhang Yao couldn't help wondering when the voice rang out in his mind.

From the information about Rodos in his mind, he had learned that after entering Rodos World, Chosen Ones could defeat or kill enemies to gain experience and equipment, increasing their strength. They could also obtain experience and equipment by completing missions.

But these missions were completely random and unpredictable. You might go a whole year without receiving a single mission, or receive several in one day. A mission might ask you to slay a dragon, or it might ask you to help an old lady cross the street. In short, they came in every imaginable variety.

After reading that information about missions, Zhang Yao had assumed he wouldn't receive one anytime soon. Yet he had barely entered Rodos World before one appeared.

After carefully weighing the pros and cons, Zhang Yao decided the benefits outweighed the risks. He only had to take Luo De 10 kilometers away from the battlefield, not fight those pirates or navy soldiers. Besides, there was no penalty even if he failed. So, after a moment's consideration, Zhang Yao accepted the mission.

"Haha, wonderful! Brother Zhang Yao, take me away from here first! Once I'm safe, you can come back and help! Don't worry. With the Sea Wolf Pirates' strength, there's no way these navy soldiers can end the battle anytime soon!" As soon as Zhang Yao accepted the mission, Luo De burst into delighted laughter.

After accepting the mission, Zhang Yao immediately received another notification:

"Obtained: One Gemstone Ring. Luxury item. Can be exchanged for 200 gold coins."

Zhang Yao was delighted by the notification and immediately put the Gemstone Ring Luo De had forced on him into his Spatial Ring. Returning to his original world for a single day cost 100 gold coins, and he had been worrying about how to get the money. He hadn't expected someone to deliver it right into his hands. Two hundred gold coins wasn't much, but it was enough to let him go back for two days.

With his spirits lifted, Zhang Yao found Luo De considerably more agreeable. He waved a hand, ready to take Luo De away from the battlefield first. It was a fine plan, but fate had other ideas.

Just as Zhang Yao was about to leave with Luo De, two navy soldiers suddenly swam toward them from behind. Both had been knocked into the sea while fighting pirates aboard the ships, and one had even lost an arm to a blade. Even so, when they spotted Zhang Yao and Luo De, two pirates not far away, they immediately swam toward them.

"Holy shit! What's wrong with these navy soldiers? Why are they so hell-bent on fighting? Brother Zhang Yao, I'm leaving them to you. I know you can do it!" Luo De's face went pale as he watched the two navy soldiers swimming toward them, and he immediately pleaded for Zhang Yao's help.

"Right! Leave them to me!" Zhang Yao nodded, then plunged underwater and swam toward the two dutiful navy soldiers from below. When Luo De saw Zhang Yao disappear beneath the water, leaving him all alone on the surface, he glanced at the two soldiers charging fiercely toward him. His heart tightened, and he turned around and swam for his life.

The two navy soldiers took both Zhang Yao's dive to prepare an attack and Luo De's flight as attempts to escape. One was simply a better swimmer than the other! They exchanged a glance and immediately pursued Luo De. After all, Luo De was swimming on the surface, making him a clear target, while Zhang Yao was already nowhere to be seen.

Their mistaken assumption proved fatal.

Just as they were about to catch Luo De, the uninjured navy soldier suddenly began struggling violently, as though his leg had cramped while swimming.

"What's wrong?" The one-armed navy soldier turned to his companion, who was flailing on the surface, and asked in alarm.

"Some... someone... pulling..." Before the struggling soldier could finish, he swallowed several mouthfuls of seawater and was dragged helplessly beneath the surface.

Gripping both of the navy soldier's calves, Zhang Yao kept sinking toward the seabed. Only when the notification, "Elite Navy Soldier killed. Gained 100 experience points," sounded in his ears did Zhang Yao let go. Then he swam toward the remaining one-armed soldier.

Seeing his companion sink for no apparent reason, the one-armed navy soldier knew perfectly well that the man who had dived underwater was responsible. Terrified, he abandoned his pursuit of Luo De, turned around, and swam toward the two large ships.

The one-armed soldier's escape ended up causing Zhang Yao quite a bit of trouble. The reason was simple: underwater, Zhang Yao could only see three or four meters ahead. After drowning the first soldier, he had followed his original course to pursue the one-armed soldier, only to discover that the man had long since disappeared.

Left with no choice, Zhang Yao surfaced to get a clear look at where the one-armed soldier had gone.

"Zhang Yao, that guy's getting away! Over there!" The moment Zhang Yao surfaced, before he even had to look around, Luo De shouted from nearby and pointed out the fleeing soldier's direction.

Zhang Yao nodded to Luo De, fixed on the direction, and dived underwater again.
