More precisely, the Dawnlight Barton was an insect-transformed weapon. Through specialized energy organs and pathways, it concentrated the enormous energy contained in black obsidian at its mouth and fired it.
The enormous energy contained in a piece of galaxy-destroying black obsidian was unstoppable once weaponized.
