Mude, the Liu Race patrol captain, was enjoying his breakfast: a cup of pure kade metal solution, savoring its silky texture...
Suddenly, a shrill alarm interrupted his happiest moment.
"What the hell? This early in the morning? If there's a meteor, just avoid it. If you can't avoid it, blast it apart."
Mude stormed into the command cabin and launched into an irritated tirade, but then he saw the screen filled with a staggering number of densely packed, bizarrely shaped ships...
"Wh... where did these come from... how did they get so close... are you all blind?"
When no one reacted, Mude slammed the command console. The loud metallic crash finally snapped them out of their daze, and he roared, "Retreat, now! Contact the base immediately! An unidentified fleet is invading!"
Only then did everyone scramble into action. The pilot wished he had six hands, and that the patrol ship had a faster-than-light engine.
But he had neither. Just as he prepared to accelerate, the ship shuddered violently, sending nearly everyone in the command cabin staggering.
"Report! The left engine has been hit. Power is down thirty-two percent. The backup engine is starting up. Estimated time: twenty seconds."
Another violent tremor struck before he finished speaking. The equipment engineer hurriedly said, "This is bad! Both engines have been hit. We've lost power. All repair crews have been ordered to work at full capacity. We're moving on inertia alone."
The pilot glanced at the radar, then turned to Mude helplessly. "Captain, we're surrounded..."
