Bai Ruan looked at Feng Yan and, for some reason, suddenly felt like laughing.
The look on his face suggested he was certain Bai Ruan would agree. Without so much as an extra word of explanation, he wanted them to start over.
"Feng Yan," Bai Ruan looked at him and asked from the heart, "have you ever respected me?"
Feng Yan did not even pause to think. "Of course I have. I care about you very much."
"If you cared about me, you wouldn't ask to start over at a time like this." Bai Ruan pushed Feng Yan's hands away, feeling a rare sense of calm. "I'm tired, Feng Yan."
He had once truly loved Feng Yan, so much that even after learning he had cheated, he had struggled to let him go.
But Bai Ruan had never imagined that Feng Yan had not only cheated on him, but even wanted his life.
If Butler Tao had not revealed the truth, would he have woken up in a hospital one day with his kidney taken out?
He had been such a fool, thinking Feng Yan liked him.
How ridiculous.
"I'm tired. Let's... leave it at this." Bai Ruan did not want to say much more. "I'll pack my things. I won't stay here."
Feng Yan looked startled. He grabbed Bai Ruan in a panic, seemingly at a loss. "Ruanruan, Ruanruan, don't be like this."
"You're angry, right? Are you angry?" Holding Bai Ruan's hand, Feng Yan struck it against his own body again and again. "Here, hit me. Take your anger out on me!"
Bai Ruan frowned and pulled his hand back, disgust showing in his eyes. "Enough. Can't we part on good terms?"
Feng Yan could not bear that look. Those eyes that had once seen only him now held such an expression.
Feng Yan began to fall apart, even his voice trembling as he all but begged, "Ruanruan, you... give me another chance. Please give me another chance, okay?"
"I know I was wrong. I really was wrong." Feng Yan's eyes reddened, his emotions slipping out of control. "I'm sorry, Ruanruan. I really, really know I was wrong!"
What good did it do to realize he was wrong now?
After Bai Ruan had learned all this, did he still expect them to go back to the way things had been?
Bai Ruan turned his head away, refusing to look at him.
"I really was wrong, Ruanruan. Don't be like this, don't..." Feng Yan was clearly losing control. His deep-set eyes were bloodshot, tears wetting his lower eyelids as his chest heaved.
As though something had occurred to him, he suddenly dropped to his knees before Bai Ruan with a thud. He held Bai Ruan's hand and begged abjectly, "I was wrong, Ruanruan. Please forgive me."
"I'll do anything you want, as long as you don't leave. Just don't leave!"
"Bai Ruan, Ruanruan..." Kneeling on the floor, Feng Yan looked up at him and called his name over and over.
All traces of the man's former arrogance had vanished. He humbled himself at Bai Ruan's feet, pleading for his forgiveness.
Bai Ruan had wanted to see Feng Yan regret what he had done, but seeing it now brought him no joy.
He looked so wretched.
So humiliated.
Had Bai Ruan looked just as humiliated when he had knelt before Feng Yan?
Bai Ruan coldly withdrew his hand and said wearily, "Forget it."
He turned around and slowly raised his eyes to Tao Zhiyan. "Butler Tao, could you help me pack my things?"
Tao Zhiyan nodded. "Of course."
"Bai Ruan!" Still kneeling on the floor, Feng Yan tried to grab his hand again.
But Bai Ruan stepped back half a pace, dodging him as though avoiding something filthy.
Having grasped at nothing, Feng Yan froze in place, his hand still outstretched. For a moment, his eyes went blank.
Tao Zhiyan and Bai Ruan walked to the bedroom door, talking about something, but Feng Yan seemed unable to hear a single word...
He could only feel the blood boiling throughout his body. A suffocating sensation rose like a demon from underground, struggling upward to devour him!
Then his gaze turned sinister and feverish, and like a vicious dog gone out of control, he suddenly lunged at Bai Ruan!
"What are you-mmph! Feng Yan!"
Feng Yan restrained Bai Ruan with one hand, then scooped him up around the waist. His eyes held an almost perverse possessiveness, and his voice was icy. "I won't let you leave me."
"Ruanruan, I'll make you understand that I love you."
"I won't let you go!" Ignoring Bai Ruan's struggles, Feng Yan forcibly carried him into the bedroom.
Tao Zhiyan had not expected Feng Yan to be this deranged. He stepped forward to stop him, but was a moment too late.
After shoving Bai Ruan into the room, Feng Yan turned and slammed the door shut, locking it.
"What are you doing? Feng Yan... let go!"
"Don't touch me!"
"No... please, no! Feng Yan! Don't make me hate you!"
"...Feng Yan! Don't touch me! Mmph... sob..."
Bai Ruan's voice grew louder and louder, breaking into sobs.
Tao Zhiyan pounded hard on the door. "Open the door! You bastard, what are you doing!"
But Feng Yan turned a deaf ear, his eyes filled with an almost crazed adoration.
He wanted to keep Bai Ruan by his side. Why? Why wouldn't Bai Ruan agree? What had he done wrong? He had done nothing wrong. Hadn't he apologized?
If Bai Ruan insisted on leaving, Feng Yan could only imprison him here.
So what if Bai Ruan hated him?
Hate me, then. Hate me. Since you can't love me anymore, hate me to your very bones. I'll make you remember me forever.
Bai Ruan, why don't you understand? I really, truly can't live without you.
"Let go of me! You bastard, you bastard, ah-sob! Please, don't do this... mmph!"
The sounds inside grew louder and louder.
Tao Zhiyan could no longer worry about anything else. He rushed downstairs to find a tool he could use to break down the door.
Breathing rapidly, Tao Zhiyan silently swore in his panic that he would never write another captivity story about a deranged, obsessive lover!
How could something so fun to write be this terrifying in the real world?!
Don't you domineering-CEO stories have a few too many criminal offenses?!
How could a house this big not even have a wrench-!

The front door suddenly opened.
Tao Zhiyan instantly raised his head.
Feng Ze stepped in from outside.
He seemed a little tired, a lit cigarette between his lips, its scarlet ember flickering, his dark eyes impassive.
The man was still dressed in a suit and polished shoes, yet he radiated an unrestrained, unruly air of power and refinement.
Tao Zhiyan took only a second to react before running up to him. "Eldest Young Master! The Second Young Master locked Bai Ruan in his room!"
Feng Ze looked up. Before he could speak, Tao Zhiyan grabbed his wrist and ran upstairs with him.
Bai Ruan was still crying, his sobs sounding increasingly pitiful.
The sounds came in wave after wave. Just listening was enough to know what the person inside was doing.
"Eldest Young Master! I knocked, but the Second Young Master won't open the door!" Tao Zhiyan pulled Feng Ze to a stop outside the bedroom and said urgently, "Please, hurry and help Bai Ruan!"
The Feng Family brothers kept out of each other's business. Even under the same roof, they rarely spoke, and Feng Ze was not one to meddle.
Feng Ze did not move. He simply watched Tao Zhiyan's anxious face.
The young man's eyelashes fluttered twice in quick succession beneath the light. Feng Ze's reflection was the only figure in his pale eyes.
"You're the only one who can help Mr. Bai Ruan." Tao Zhiyan looked at Feng Ze, his voice growing more urgent. "Please help him!"
"Eldest Young Master."
"Please help him! I'm begging you!"
Feng Ze looked away and sighed. Turning toward the bedroom door, he said, "Open the door."
The crying inside grew quieter.
But Feng Yan did not open the door.
After waiting a few seconds, Feng Ze evidently ran out of patience. He stepped back half a pace and bent his leg.
Then he kicked the lock with a deafening bang!
The long column of ash on the cigarette between his lips scattered downward.
The man drew back his long leg, retreated half a pace, and kicked the lock again!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang-!
Within seconds, his kicks had loosened the lock.
Seeing that it was loose enough, Feng Ze reached up, tore the lock off the doorframe, and pushed the door open.
Feng Ze took the cigarette from his mouth between his thumb and forefinger. He did not enter the room, merely glanced at Feng Yan and said coldly, "Come out."
