By then, everyone's attention had shifted. Instead of watching the elevator, they searched for the mosquito inside.
Ke Meng stared at the mosquito and made a scooping motion with both hands at once.

A shadow appeared in each of Ke Meng's hands. He opened his left hand, revealing a tiny mosquito wriggling wildly in his palm.
Ke Meng flicked his hand, tossing it back into the shadow's body.
When he opened his other hand, a huge black shadow crawled straight out of his palm and tried to dart into his clothes. But Ke Meng flicked his hand back, scooped at the air again, and clenched his fist, locking the shadow inside his palm once more.
Director Lei watched Ke Meng scoop, flick, and retrieve the shadow in one fluid sequence.
"You caught it?" Director Lei sounded uncertain. It had seemed too easy, too unreal, as though he were dreaming.
"I caught it." Ke Meng nodded.
The capture had happened so quickly that their eyes could barely keep up. It felt unreal.
If the Investigation Bureau had handled the capture, they would first have needed light-emitting items to force it out of hiding. Unless they formed a complete encirclement with no gaps in any direction, a Shadow Stream member could leave their body and flee in an instant, slippery as an eel.
