Ke Meng wandered around the Cat-Faced People Mountain Village, gathering glimpses of its history.
Some events were too far in the past. Their records had grown so hazy that even Synesthesia could not render them clearly.
Ke Meng lingered there for a long time, like a black ghost, his entire body billowing with black smoke that obscured his form as he absorbed memories of the past.
At last, he saw the Cat-Faced People Mountain Village being built from the ground up.
Ke Meng began rewinding the memories and saw what the village chief had looked like when the village was first founded.
He had a humanoid body, a cat's face, and a long cat tail behind him. His yellowish feline eyes reflected a strange light.
As the first of the Cat-Faced People to undergo an elevation of thought, the village chief brimmed with vitality, looking far more spirited than any of the villagers.
Ke Meng noticed that the village chief's spirituality surged day after day, growing at a terrifying rate.
The scenes revealed by Synesthesia fast-forwarded a month.
The village was complete.
The village chief brought back a cat that had stopped thinking from somewhere unknown.
He taught the villagers how to feed the cat. Then, one day, after making arrangements for his departure, he left the village, claiming he was going to train in the Great Wilderness.
After that, the position of village chief remained vacant. A few years later, everyone concluded that the chief had died and elected the former deputy chief as his official replacement.
Many years passed. Generation after generation came and went, and the village chief lived on in the elders' stories.
The later generations had never seen him and could only hear his story from their elders.
Once the Synesthesia was complete.
