The Blackstone Testing Grounds contained all sorts of things. Some had been fashioned into ark-scale designs that suppressed the Warp. Cawl's ambitions were enormous: his replication work had moved beyond relics of the Ancient Era to the Emperor's great creations, such as Psi-Titans.
Reverse activation of blackstone could greatly amplify Warp power. He had even considered inviting Mephiston, the Blood Angels Librarian, to conduct an experiment, but after repeated deliberation, he decided to keep his secrets and let no Astartes know.
He had procured some psykers through various channels himself. Although the amplification provided by blackstone was considerable, it was nowhere near as terrifying as the revolving-credit model the Emperor had created.
Cawl also adopted the Imperium's usual heavy-handed approach: sheer numbers. They're just people, aren't they? How could our mighty Imperium of Man possibly run short of psykers?
Halfway through the experiment, Evan arrived. An emergency evacuation began in the experimental area, and an asteroid-sized Adeptus Mechanicus transport ship simply "scooped" the entire base out of the moon.
Every room in the base was evacuated as a module. Large quantities of central piping were abandoned, and many experiments requiring long-term maintenance were halted and self-destructed.
Members of the Adeptus Mechanicus kept maintaining the emergency power supply, begging for the Omnissiah's mercy.
One bowed his head to the floor, then discovered a glittering golden figure standing before him.
"Take me to Archmagos Cawl. I bear the Emperor's command."
"Abba, abba, abba..." The senior attendant did not recognize an Adeptus Custodes either. Beside him, servitors mechanically carried out their superiors' orders, completely ignoring the Custodian.
Fortunately, the Tech-Priest reacted in time. The dancing readings on his scanner instantly brought him to his senses. That's a bloody auramite signature!
*Readings that existed only in legend! The Omnissiah has manifested... no, one of
