The Blackshields sparring with the recruits seemed utterly unconcerned by such trifles. They paid no attention to the words of the weak and even taunted them in return.

"You call me a traitor? Then come and slay the traitor. Or can you only flap your lips?"

An enraged recruit charged a Blackshield, only for the veteran to knock him flat with a single punch, jeering all the while. "Too weak, far too weak. You're just a bunch of spineless wimps handing out battlefield honours to the enemy."

The Indomitus Crusade following Guilliman's awakening had lasted 176 years and reclaimed vast territories. Now Abaddon and the Chaos Gods were returning the favour.

Evan looked at his meagre forces. Even counting all three batches of recruits who had undergone augmentation, plus the fourth batch about to emerge from their tanks, he still had fewer than two companies of warriors. What could they accomplish in Segmentum Obscurus? They would be wiped out in a few blows.

*No. We need to keep lying low and building our strength for a few more
