The veteran Sara ran toward the battlefield with the Purestrain Genestealer Patriarch's head in one hand and a Chainsword in the other.

Another veteran was filling in for the Astartes Patriarch and the Departmento Munitorum, organizing the commanders to coordinate the search. Having an Astartes stationed at the temporary Departmento Munitorum headquarters offered the mortals some reassurance, but in the bigger picture, it was an enormous waste of combat strength.

Sara felt he needed to give the neophyte a proper lesson. Bars had fallen for a simple Golden Cicada Shedding Its Shell trick. What a disgrace.

Sara had originally been assigned to protect Bars-or rather, to monitor him. A Librarian candidate was no laughing matter, after all. He was the Crimson Tide Chapter's first homegrown "suspected Librarian."

But the kid got far too carried away. When reviewing files, he was painstakingly thorough and could quickly construct a web of information in his head. Once the fighting started, however, he got worked up and became a little reckless.

The cunning Genestealer Patriarch had hidden right where he was, stopping even his breathing and heartbeat. It was a state purestrains normally entered only when hibernating in outer space.

Left with no choice, the veteran Sara had dealt with the culprit behind the Hive City's turmoil on Bars's behalf.

Carrying the thing's dripping head, Sara considered how he would chew Bars out later-until a terrifying tide of psyker power rolled toward him from the battlefield.

At first, Sara merely sensed that something was wrong. He had just switched his eyepiece mode when an enormous Psyker Shockwave struck him. The veteran even dropped to one knee, driving his Chainsword firmly into the ground
