| First Appearance | Appears as an unidentified triangular metal plate 2; named by Card Fairy 8 |
Power Progression
The documented increases concern Wang Yan’s cultivation and the cards’ performance, rather than an independent cultivation realm attained by the artifact.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Entry level of the Cultivation Realm — cultivation restored | 9 10 13 | After an unsuccessful water-energy attempt, Wang Yan adopts Card Fairy’s fire cultivation method. The artifact begins storing magical power, and the Fireball Spell Card lets him cast a spell he has never learned. |
| Minor attainment of the Cultivation Realm | 15 18 21 | Wang Yan’s breakthrough earns a Lottery Cube draw. His card-generated fireballs become strong enough for demonic-beast hunting and can be released four in succession, but he can activate only one card at a time. |
| Major completion of the Cultivation Realm | 48 49 | Wang Yan breaks through using Spiritual Energy Pills and fire-type Spirit Stones. Card-generated fireballs become substantially stronger, but a fully charged Fireball Spell Card now supplies only seven or eight casts rather than over a dozen. |
Background / History
Card Fairy developed the Immortal Card Artifact to reduce the time cultivators spent learning spells. Her invention combines artifact refining, formations, pill refining, spells, incantations, and talismans. She describes it as unique in the cultivation world and claims that almost every True Immortal in the immortal world covets it 11 50.
According to Card Fairy, the artifact broke apart when she fled into Wang Yan’s world. Its missing components should therefore remain somewhere in that world, although neither she nor Wang Yan knows their locations 9 14.
After Wang Ziling destroyed Wang Yan’s dantian and nearly killed him, Card Fairy placed the surviving fire component in his abdomen to save his life. It became inseparable from his flesh and provided an alternative vessel for cultivation 8 9.
The possibility of creating a Resurrection Card changed Wang Yan’s long-term goal: he resolved to restore his parents and another lost loved one. Accomplishing this requires recovering the artifact’s scattered components, as only the complete artifact can refine and use a Resurrection Card 13 14.
Appearance
- Surviving artifact component: A small, red, triangular, metal-like plate embedded in Wang Yan’s abdomen without any visible gap. Attempting to pry it loose causes pain 2 8.
- Internal structure: Wang Yan senses metal tubes serving as meridians and an extremely complex metallic space in which red spiritual light gathers 11.
- Fireball Spell Card: An exquisitely crafted red card covered in fine runes. Its front bears the character for “fire,” two facing dragons, and a fireball; auspicious cloud patterns cover its back. Despite these designs, the finished card initially emits no detectable spiritual energy 12.
- Water-Fire Blast Card: A red card depicting a taiji-like orb of intertwined red and blue flames, with its name written at the bottom 16.
Abilities & Functions
Dantian Replacement
The surviving component stores spiritual energy in place of Wang Yan’s destroyed dantian 9.
- The artifact opens two internal channels through which he can direct energy into it 9.
- Its present fire component accepts only fire-type spiritual energy. Wang Yan’s water-based cultivation attempt fails and causes pain 9 10.
- At low cultivation, withdrawing magical power from the artifact is slow, placing him at a disadvantage when using power directly 15.
Spell Storage and Rapid Casting
An Immortal Card preserves a spell or divine ability for use through the central artifact 13 14.
- Users can cast a stored spell without learning it themselves; another cultivator can provide the spell during refinement 14.
- Initial activation requires an incantation, hand seals, a little magical power, and attaching the card to the body. The Fireball Spell Card then dissolves into red motes that enter Wang Yan 12 13.
- Once activated, the Fireball Spell Card releases attacks almost instantly, without repeated chanting or hand seals 18 49.
- Card-generated fireballs are faster and more accurate than talisman attacks and consume little of Wang Yan’s own magical power 18 49.
Rechargeable Magical Power
Immortal Cards are reusable, but not inexhaustible. Their attacks draw on stored magical power that must be replenished 13.
- Users recharge a card by channeling magical power into it 13.
- Capacity depends on the refining materials, formations, and the stored spell’s rank and power 13 14.
- At Wang Yan’s early cultivation level, fully recharging the Fireball Spell Card takes more than a day 18.
- Stronger attacks expend more stored power, reducing the number of casts available from the same card 49.
- A released spell can be withdrawn through the card system, recovering approximately 70–80 percent of its magical power 31.
Simultaneous Card Use
- At minor attainment, Wang Yan can activate only one Immortal Card at a time. Using the Water-Fire Blast Card requires removing the active Fireball Spell Card first 21.
- Switching cards during combat takes time and can leave him unable to use his preferred attack 21.
- Card Fairy explains that greater cultivation will allow him to activate more cards simultaneously 21.
Aura Concealment
- The artifact allows Wang Yan to suppress his magical presence unusually well 41.
- This concealment cannot deceive a nearby Core Condensation Realm cultivator 41.
Lottery Cube Storage
- Card Fairy stores the Lottery Cube inside the artifact and brings it out to reward Wang Yan’s cultivation breakthroughs 15 49.
- Rewards include previously refined Immortal Cards and other treasures: Wang Yan receives a Water-Fire Blast Card on his first draw and a Creation Pill on his next 16 49.
Other Claimed Functions
Card Fairy says suitable Immortal Cards can lay formations, summon demonic or divine beasts, unleash magical treasures, and set traps. These possibilities depend on refining the appropriate cards; they are not all demonstrated by Wang Yan 11 13.
Refinement
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Technical knowledge | Even simple cards require formations, artifact refining, and talisman crafting 12. |
| Materials | Demonic-beast hides are suitable basic media. Higher-grade cards may require rare natural treasures and demonic cores 14. |
| Formation runes | Combinations of eighty-one basic formation characters produce formations that channel spiritual energy and preserve divine abilities within cards 48. |
| Control and concentration | Insufficient magical power, imprecise control, and a restless mind can ruin materials during refinement 18. |
| Central artifact | Possessing the Immortal Card Artifact is essential to unleash a finished card’s power 14. |
| Elemental restriction | The incomplete artifact can currently refine only fire-type cards. Its other components are needed to manufacture additional types 14. |
- First demonstration: Card Fairy controls Wang Yan’s body and transforms his beast-hide wristguards into a Fireball Spell Card. The process draws on his essence, spirit, and vital energy, leaving him exhausted 12.
- Wang Yan’s training: He studies material refinement, formation characters, talisman drawing, and artifact refining. Drawing paired runes is a prerequisite for refining the Spell Collection Card 18 48.
- Unfinished project: After four further months of practice, his latest Spell Collection Card attempt still fails and exhausts his remaining fire-type Spirit Stones 50.
Known Card Types
| Card | Function | Documented Limits / Status |
|---|---|---|
| Fireball Spell Card | Stores rapidly repeatable Fireball Spells; used to kill demonic beasts and ambush cultivators 17 18 21 40. | Made from low-grade beast hide. Its initial capacity is roughly a dozen casts; stronger fireballs at major completion reduce this to seven or eight 14 49. |
| Water-Fire Blast Card | Combines water and fire into an explosive attack. Its first test blasts a crater nearly ten feet across in a cliff 16. | Obtained already refined from the Lottery Cube. At minor attainment, one use consumes about half Wang Yan’s reserves; defensive treasures may withstand it 16. |
| Spell Collection Card | Intended to provide access to divine abilities without conventional spell practice 50. | Requires further rune and refining mastery; Wang Yan has not successfully produced it by his latest attempt 48 50. |
| Summoning Card | Card Fairy describes cards capable of summoning even divine beasts 13. | Requires superior materials; no successful use is documented in the supplied chapters 13. |
| Resurrection Card | Intended to bring the dead back to life 13. | Requires the complete artifact, True Immortal cultivation, and exceptionally rare materials. Card Fairy herself previously failed to refine one 13 14. |
Relationships
- Card Fairy — Inventor and refining instructor. She considers Wang Yan especially suited to her invention because he combines tactical planning with efficient use of each card’s advantages 9 18 48.
- Wang Yan — Bearer and developing card refiner. He uses traps and precise timing to compensate for weak cultivation, while seeking the complete artifact as a means to resurrect his loved ones 14 18.
Notable Uses
- Demonic-beast hunting: Rapid fireballs let Wang Yan exploit brief openings created by traps against the White-Headed Wolf and Black-Furred Ape 17 18.
- Fang Bear Beast ambush: Wang Yan fires the Water-Fire Blast Technique into the open mouth of a newly advanced Core Condensation Realm beast. Card Fairy stresses that its existing injuries and depleted strength made the victory possible 22.
- Withdrawal against layered defenses: Wang Yan retracts a Water-Fire Blast attack when an opponent’s Ice Armor and shield make a kill uncertain, conserving magical power before switching to close combat 31.
