Background / History
Card Fairy invented and forged the Immortal Card Artifact. According to her account, it broke apart when she fled into Wang Yan’s world, leaving its components scattered somewhere within it. She refuses to explain her origins, insisting that such knowledge would be useless at his current cultivation level 9 14.
She saves Wang Yan after Wang Ziling destroys his dantian and leaves him fatally injured. A red triangular fragment of her artifact becomes embedded in his abdomen, allowing him to survive and offering a substitute means of cultivating. She first introduces herself as a voice in his mind, withholding her true title and asking him to call her “Card Fairy” 8 9.
Her attachment to Wang Yan is not entirely voluntary: she accidentally absorbs his blood essence and becomes unable to leave him. Although she initially complains about being bound to such a weak cultivator, she secretly assesses his comprehension and character and decides that he is worth teaching. Her own fate is tied to his cultivation and survival 10 12 17.
Appearance
- Voice: Cute and youthful-sounding, despite her insistence on being treated as an elder 8 10.
- Physical form: Not revealed to Wang Yan. She says he must develop spiritual sense strong enough for inner vision before he can see her inside his body 12.
Personality
Card Fairy is boastful, theatrical, and easily irritated. She lavishes praise on her own invention, reacts sharply when Wang Yan compares it to ordinary talismans or magic artifacts, and frequently calls him a brat. Her childish behavior repeatedly makes him question whether she really is the ancient True Immortal she claims to be 10 11 28.
Beneath the teasing, she is a demanding teacher who values perseverance and self-reliance. She discourages despair, refuses to supply equipment whenever Wang Yan asks, and makes advancement the condition for receiving rewards. She treats cultivation and mental stability as more important than collecting spells for immediate use 8 17 29 50.
Her view of the cultivation world is pragmatic rather than idealistic. She initially praises Wang Ziling’s cunning as a useful survival trait, but recognizes that his viciousness would make him a dangerous partner. Wang Yan’s careful use of limited resources eventually impresses her more: she comes to regard him as better suited to her artifact than its creator herself 15 18.
She can hold a grudge without abandoning her responsibilities. After Wang Yan complains about her constant commentary, she stops answering him until he promises not to quarrel again, yet continues supervising his cultivation throughout the dispute 22 23.
Abilities & Skills
Immortal Card Creation
Card Fairy created the Immortal Card system to reduce the time cultivators spend practicing individual spells. Its craft combines formations, artifact refining, and talisman-making; she describes the complete artifact as incorporating pill refining, incantations, and other disciplines as well 11 12 50.
- Demonstrated creation: Takes control of Wang Yan’s body and converts his beast-hide wristguards into a Fireball Spell Card, using seals, runes, and the artifact to preserve the spell 12.
- Spell access: Cards allow users to cast stored spells without first learning them, with rapid and repeatable activation 13 18.
- Energy limits: Repeated casting consumes a card’s stored magical power; depleted cards must be recharged 13.
- Material requirements: Basic cards need suitable demonic-beast materials or special media. Higher-grade cards can require rare treasures and demonic cores 11 14.
- Incomplete artifact: Its surviving fire fragment currently permits only fire-type card refinement 14.
- Advanced possibilities: She describes Summoning Cards capable of calling divine beasts and Resurrection Cards capable of restoring the dead. These are not demonstrated; she herself failed to create a Resurrection Card, and one requires the complete artifact 13 14.
Cultivation Analysis and Tailored Arts
Card Fairy can assess cultivation aptitude and devise methods suited to individual practitioners 9 10 49.
- Immortal-root assessment: Identifies Wang Yan’s fire root as purer than his water root, explaining why his previous cultivation method wasted his potential 9.
- Customized fire art: Quickly creates a method circulating through twelve meridians. Wang Yan finds it several times faster and less uncomfortable than his former Water Spirit Art 10 11.
- Breakthrough guidance: Teaches Wang Yan to use Spiritual Energy Pills and fire-type Spirit Stones to force through his bottleneck 48.
- Earthforce Art: Prepares a cultivation art for Ye Shisan after investigating his unusual constitution and the effects of his existing training 48 49.
- Dantian repair limitation: Says restoring Wang Yan’s dantian would have been possible with her former powers, but is beyond her present condition 9.
Spiritual Sense and Body Control
Her spiritual sense allows her to observe the outside world while residing within Wang Yan 12.
- Mental communication: Speaks directly into his mind. His early cultivation is insufficient to answer silently through divine sense, so he must speak aloud 16 32.
- Threat detection: Notices the approaching Ma Family party, tracks changes in a pursuer’s presence, and interrupts instruction when someone approaches 25 38 40.
- Body control: With Wang Yan’s cooperation, controls his movements to carry out card refinement beyond his own skill 12.
- Cost to the host: Her first refinement demonstration draws on his essence, spirit, and vital energy, leaving him exhausted. She prescribes four hours of meditation to recover 12.
- Present-state limitation: Cannot eat physical food, though the smell and memory of roast fish tempt her 11.
Formations, Refining, and Mental Cultivation
Card Fairy teaches the technical foundations needed for Wang Yan to make his own Immortal Cards 12 48.
- Formation instruction: Teaches eighty-one basic formation characters, whose combinations produce runes and formations that channel spiritual energy 48.
- Spell Collection Card prerequisites: Requires adequate artifact-refining skill and the ability to combine two formation characters into paired runes 48.
- Refining diagnosis: Identifies insufficient magical power, poor control, and restlessness as the causes of Wang Yan’s failed attempts to process beast hide 18.
- Ancient-script knowledge: Deciphers the Ancient Clerical Script in a jade slip containing roughly one-third of the Heart-Control Art, then adapts the technique for Wang Yan 24.
- Mental discipline: Explains that a steadier mind aids resistance to inner demons and develops intelligence and spiritual sense 24.
Artifact and Material Appraisal
Her expertise helps Wang Yan recognize valuable finds and avoid misleading purchases 23 36 37 38 43.
- Thousand Spirit Arrow: Identifies it as a Spirit Artifact and explains how the user’s cultivation determines its available power 23.
- Purple-Spotted Bamboo Brush: Recognizes valuable bamboo in a shabby secondhand brush, then gives instructions for restoring its tip with Spiritual Energy Pills and Fang Bear Beast blood 37 38.
- Counterfeit detection: Exposes worthless artifacts and dismisses the heavily promoted Blue Jadeite Purple Tiger Brush as ordinary rather than exceptional 36 37 38.
- Black mother iron: Identifies the rare material in Ye Shisan’s rod and explains its value for strengthening weapons and artifacts 43.
- Talisman appraisal: Recognizes the unusual production method of a young vendor’s blank talismans and praises her skill 35 36.
Equipment / Items
- Immortal Card Artifact — Her original invention. Its red fire fragment is embedded in Wang Yan’s abdomen and replaces his destroyed dantian. At his low cultivation, he needs her assistance to activate it, and drawing power from it is slower than using an intact dantian 9 15.
- Cube Lottery Wheel / Lottery Cube — A reward device she summons from the artifact. She initially describes it as holding cards she refined in the past; its documented prizes also include a Creation Pill 15 49.
Relationships
- Wang Yan — Rescued host, pupil, and inseparable companion. Their partnership begins with suspicion and necessity, then develops into familiar banter and genuine admiration. She particularly values his ability to exploit his strengths while conserving power 8 12 18.
- Wang Ziling — Wang Yan’s enemy. She initially acknowledges his cunning, but later warns that his treachery threatens Wang Yan and concludes that Wang Yan is the better user of her artifact 15 18 28.
- Ye Shisan — Indirect beneficiary of her instruction. She investigates his unusual cultivation difficulties, asks Wang Yan to be patient with him, and prepares the Earthforce Art for him 48 49.
