"Bane? Is that the guy you said fried his brain on stimulants?"
Jack had been leaning against the wall, listening in and feeling thoroughly bored. But the moment he heard that Bane was involved, he perked right up. Ignoring the nails on the floor, he walked over and abruptly cut in.
As it turned out, with enough perseverance, you could eventually toughen the soles of your feet until even nails couldn't pierce them.
"Yeah, the big guy with the pointy head I told you about."
With that confirmation, Jack's eyes lit up with anticipation for the first time in ages.
According to his boss, this man named Bane was a lot like him in every respect.
Their mothers were both criminals, they had both been born in prison, and they were both willing to do anything to grow stronger.
The difference was that Jack hadn't spent his childhood in prison. An old priest had taken him in, and once he was an adult, he had met the doctor who became his partner. He might never have received a proper education, but at least he hadn't turned out twisted.
Bane, however, had grown up in prison and been dragged off by the guards for human experimentation, which had messed up his head. For some inexplicable reason, bats had become his personal nightmare, and the moment he got out, killing Batman became his ultimate goal.
Of course, Jack didn't particularly care about his bizarre thought process. He cared about only one thing: the guy was strong enough.
Not strong in some weird, freakish way, but through pure brute force, just like him.
This guy might actually be an opponent he could fight to his heart's content.
