Origin and Sealing
The Four Great Continents are enveloped by a Time Light Knot and were sealed by an Innate Great Formation. Their three major immortal formations include the Dao Alliance’s Five Elements Annihilation Great Formation, the demon race’s Years’ Song Great Formation, and the Buddhist sect’s Mount Sumeru Mustard Seed Space Formation. 14
Gods of the God Realm sealed the Four Great Continents. The sealing is connected to the suppression of soul cultivation and the broader karma of the Witch Clan and the Immortal Realm. 13 15
Their identity as fragments of the Immortal Realm is supported in-universe by several features:
- Ancient formations powerful enough that lower-realm beings should not have been able to establish them. 14
- Divine weapons, treasures, and cultivation techniques exceeding ordinary Immortal Realm artifacts and methods. 14
- The presence of higher-realm fragments, including the Black Ruins Mountain Heavenly Prison and Star Moon Palace. 14
- Their enclosure within the Time Light Knot. 14
The Immortal Realm reached by Xiao Hua is described as a pseudo- or broken Immortal Realm. The unbroken realm is speculated to have been the Witch Realm, whose inhabitants cultivated soul power before its division. 14
History
Xiao Hua entered the Four Great Continents after leaving the Xiaoyu Continent through the Sumeru Buddhist Array, Five Elements Annihilation Great Formation, and Years’ Song Demonic Array. His journeys there marked the period in which he rose from a high-level cultivator to the supreme cultivator of the Four Great Continents. 2 5
After cultivating for 20,000 years within the Black Ruins Mountain Heavenly Prison, Xiao Hua escaped using the South-North Divergence Technique and entered the Moon God Ruins. There, he formed the Gate of Creation’s iron army and resisted the Demon Realm’s invasion. 7
The Gate of Creation subsequently fought through the Thousand Demon Sacred Realm and Hidden Immortal Continent, becoming the foremost iron army of the Four Great Continents. 6
During the final crisis, Xiao Hua resolved the world-ending threats affecting the Yilin and Xiaoyu Continents, broke the three major formations, and unified the Four Continents before ascending to the Immortal Realm. 2 7
Role in Xiao Hua's Ascension
Xiao Hua’s final tribulations unfolded across the Four Great Continents. His major clones underwent separate tribulations over regions including the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, Hidden Immortal Continent, Yilin Continent, Thousand Demon Sacred Realm, North Sea, Xiaoyu Continent, and West Sea. 28
As the tribulations concluded, the clones returned their essences to Xiao Hua and agreed to reunite in the Upper Realm. Xiao Hua then ascended with only his star-filled Nascent Soul remaining. 28
Trivia
- The name draws on Buddhist cosmology’s four lands surrounding the Salt Sea and Mount Sumeru: the Eastern Continent of Divine Beings, Western Continent of Cattle-Herds, Southern Continent of Jambudvipa, and Northern Continent of Kuru. 14
- The Four Great Continents are treated as a lower realm in some accounts, yet their relics, formations, and temporal enclosure point to an origin at least as high as the Immortal Realm. 14
- Xiao Hua was worshipped as the Moon God and a True Person after suppressing demons and saving the Four Continents. 7
