"Everyone, get up. We're not like them. We won't enslave you." An Xi sighed as she looked at the survivors kneeling on the deck.
At her words, the survivor at the front raised his head and glanced at her, his eyes utterly numb.
Yet a faint thread of hope lay beneath that numbness.
Although the battle had ended quickly, they had witnessed it.
The people who had been lording it over them were dead. Perhaps these new Sequence Adepts would be different?
As he thought this, some of the numbness faded from his eyes.
But most remained numb. To them, these Sequence Adepts were all cut from the same cloth. None of them were any good.
So only a few people stood up when they heard An Xi's words. The rest remained kneeling, some even trembling with fear.
Captain Hui came aboard then. Seeing them, he sighed as well, then patted An Xi. "That won't work."
"Watch me."
Then he barked, "Get up, all of you! Anyone who doesn't get up will never stand again!"
"I'll break your arms and legs and hang you off the bow as fish bait! I'll make you wish you were dead!"
Captain Hui's threats worked far better than An Xi's gentle words.
As soon as he finished, everyone stood up.
"Tsk, tsk. They fear force, not kindness." Chu Sheng's voice came from behind them.
"They don't even count as people anymore." Chu Sheng jumped aboard with his arms folded. There was no pity or sympathy in his eyes, only the same cold indifference.
Chu Sheng merely glanced at the survivors before putting them out of his mind. Instead, he looked at Captain Hui and An Xi. "Let's get this straight first. I contributed more this time, so I get a bigger share."
With that,
