Background / History

Shortly after the apocalypse began, An Xi found her original spear in a handicraft shop and sharpened it herself. Its poor-quality material eventually failed to keep pace with her abilities, but she continued using it because she lacked a replacement 11.

Before commissioning the White Jade Spear, she and Zhu Qing killed a skeleton whose ribs included two unusual, jade-like bones. Each kept one; An Xi later supplied hers to Chu Sheng as the material for her first Sacrificial Item 15.

She travels with A Xin, who drives their vehicle. Their two-person squad receives more provisions than it consumes, allowing An Xi to consider exchanging surplus supplies for A Xin’s protection 9 18.

An Xi is brash, outspoken, and competitive. She responds to unwanted staring by pointing her spear toward Chu Sheng, trades insults with him, and takes visible pride in her weapon’s performance. Her enthusiasm for stronger equipment quickly overcomes her initial reluctance to part with supplies 10 11 16 22.

Her confidence does not prevent her from recognizing danger. The Ironclad Zombie leaves her frustrated by her inability to penetrate its defenses; when a Golden Armored Zombie later approaches, she immediately urges A Xin to accelerate while preparing to fight if escape fails 9 44.

She retains considerable compassion for other survivors. Chu Sheng’s sacrifice of two fleeing men troubles her, and she mourns the convoy members killed during the later mass escape. She does not demand that others share her outlook, but remains committed to protecting people within her capabilities 28 46.

Her reactions to violence depend on its circumstances. She continues eating during Chu Sheng’s killing of a would-be thief, yet recoils from his dissection of humanlike Anomalies. She is also playful enough to repeatedly poke him while he sleeps, then becomes intensely embarrassed when he notices her drooling 17 25 26 29.
