Captain Hui frowned and stood up at that, realizing something was wrong. His mildly joking expression turned serious.
Seeing him rise, Chu Sheng glanced at Cheng Xue, who was cooking, and said, "Make breakfast for three more people. I'll give you the ingredients later."
Cheng Xue, who had been chopping vegetables with her head down, paused and looked up at him. Then she caught on and nodded repeatedly.
"Okay."
Once Cheng Xue had heard him, Chu Sheng led Captain Hui over and opened the door to the Netherworld Light's cab.
Entering the cab, Captain Hui glanced at the closed bedroom door. He had no intention of investigating. Instead, he shut the vehicle door, looked at Chu Sheng, and asked, "What is it? Why do we need to come up here to talk?"
Chu Sheng's expression grew serious. "Your instincts were right. More right than you knew."
With that, he opened the bedroom door and went inside. Before Captain Hui could look in, the door shut.
Less than ten seconds later, Chu Sheng emerged with a book. Captain Hui looked toward him. The bedroom behind him was pitch-black, too dark to see a hand in front of his face.
As Chu Sheng came out, the bedroom door closed again. This time, even the door disappeared.
"What's this?" Captain Hui looked at the book in his hands and asked in confusion, "Why did you bring out a book?"
"Take a look." Chu Sheng opened the Book of Time to the entries he had just read and handed it over.
Captain Hui took the Book of Time, puzzled, and began to read.
A few seconds later, his expression changed. He had clearly realized how bad things were, too.
