Kakashi trained under Minato Namikaze alongside Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara. During the Third Shinobi World War, Obito witnessed Kakashi pierce Rin with Lightning Blade. Obito later describes Rin’s death as something she willingly accepted at the hands of the person she loved 421 422.

The suicide of Kakashi’s father, Sakumo Hatake, left a lasting wound. Naruto later confronts Kakashi about joining Root, following Danzō’s orders to assassinate the Third Hokage, and eventually changing allegiance to Hiruzen. Kakashi cannot sustain a denial of these accusations 264 372.
