In a sense, the Void Realm Church's provocation hadn't gone too far.
Had Jonas been the one doing it, he might have slipped a time bomb into the gift and detonated it the instant it was opened.
So rather than a provocation, the Void Realm Church's actions were more of a warning.
The Void Realm Church Saintess wasn't ready to make an enemy of the Alt Corporation yet.
That also contradicted Jonas's assumptions... judging by her behavior in the story, she shouldn't have been willing to swallow this insult.
But given the current situation, only a few possibilities remained: either the Void Realm Church hadn't yet reached the level it would attain late in the story, or something was restricting it at present, preventing it from bringing its full strength to bear.
Jonas was more inclined to believe the second possibility. After all, according to Miss Eiffel's investigation, this so-called Void Realm Church might have existed for decades... it had developed undisturbed in District 25 for so many years without being discovered, even bringing members like the Smith Family into its ranks. Its influence was probably far greater than Jonas had imagined.
Following that second line of reasoning, the cause might have been something Jonas had suspected for some time: factional infighting within the Void Realm Church.
Based on what Jonas currently knew, the Void Realm Church had at least three factions, and the Saintess's supposedly "orthodox" faction seemed to be at odds with the one represented by the Smith Family.
That would also explain why the Smith Family had extended goodwill to him and warned him to watch out for the Void Realm Church Saintess.
With those points established, the situation no longer felt so urgent.
