After everything that had happened over the past few days, the word that best described the Federation was exhaustion.
A word meant to describe a person's physical and mental state had been applied to a vast, intricate machine. Everyone caught up in this incident had their own agenda. The protesters wanted a thorough investigation and the truth about what had happened to their loved ones. The families and conglomerates wanted to silence them and keep raking in money from the market. Those at the very top, meanwhile, were working to stabilize the Federation's current situation.
They did not care what had actually happened in the Federation or how its reputation might suffer. Their primary responsibility was to make the safest decisions possible and keep the machine that was the Federation from crashing down.
Out on the streets, the protests continued.
"The Federation should arrest those criminals! We taxpayers aren't paying you to feed criminals! You freeloading pieces of trash who disappear whenever we need you-make yourselves useful one last time!"
"Eat shit, Federation! You're not worth a damn compared to District 25! It's been days, and what have you accomplished? Get lost in the Wasteland, you bastards who deserve nothing but sand to eat! You haven't even been willing to hand over a scapegoat!"
"We demand answers from the Federation! Why haven't those damned criminals been arrested when the evidence is conclusive? Because they belong to powerful families? Because they're rich and influential, our loved ones' deaths can just be ignored?!"
