"What's wrong?"
Out on the street, Ye Hua saw Yue Chen freeze in place and stopped too.
"Shh, shh, shh. Boss is calling. She's obviously checking on our progress. Be careful, or we'll get our pay docked."
Yue Chen snapped out of it, hurriedly made a shushing gesture, then answered the call.
"Hello, Boss! Calling at a time like this-got some business to send our way?"
Her tone was as cheerful as ever.
Ji Yeling's voice came through the phone, clearly concerned. "Yue Chen, where are you now? Have you arrived safely in District 25?"
Back at the Swordbearer headquarters, Ji Yeling looked at the intelligence reporting their arrival in District 25 and decided to ask them herself.
Her concern was genuine.
It wasn't that District 25 had no insiders, but most stayed at their posts and had never approached Jonas, much less made a move against him. They kept their heads down. Right now, Yue Chen and Ye Hua were the only two who could interact with Jonas directly.
"Yes, Boss, we've arrived safely. Everything's going according to plan. With us on the job, the mission's as good as done. It's all a piece of cake."
Yue Chen sounded relaxed, even tossing in a flippant complaint. "It's just that our accommodations aren't great. They don't feel as nice as the hotels in Dragon City."
"That's because you're only a diplomatic staffer right now. Your file says you're part of the advance team. If you were an ambassador, I could get you into a five-star hotel in District 25 in no time, but that would make your identity too conspicuous."
"Then never mind. Completing the mission comes first. Getting paid is what matters most."
Ji Yeling's voice relaxed a little. "Good. Remember, no matter what happens, safety always comes first.
