Kogar was pinned firmly against the conference table.

As he stared into the dark muzzle of the gun, a trace of fear crept into his eyes.

He gritted his teeth and glanced at his bodyguard out of the corner of his eye. The burly man had already collapsed to the floor, a bruise forming at his temple. He was clearly unconscious.

Truthfully, he did not think Jonas would dare shoot... Even setting aside his current role as the board's representative, as the man in charge of affairs in the Misat District, he was not someone Jonas could simply kill on a whim.

If he died here, the board would pursue the matter to the bitter end. At that point, stripping Jonas of his status as an heir would be the least of his problems.

If he died, Jonas certainly would not fare much better.

Though Kogar kept reassuring himself that Jonas would never do something so irrational, he could not help feeling frightened with that dark muzzle pointed at him.

Kogar drew a deep breath and spoke, forcing himself to sound calm:

"I only came to negotiate. There's no need to take things this far... Put the gun away, and I can pretend none of this ever happened."

Jonas's behavior was far too abnormal, leaving Kogar uncertain of where he stood.

Even as he inwardly cursed Jonas as a madman, he had to keep up a calm facade and urge him to settle down.

"From the very beginning, Mr. Kogar, you've failed to understand your position."

Jonas's voice remained calm, as though he were not the one who had suddenly upended everything.

"I've always preferred to play by the rules, and I despise people who break them..."

He could not help laughing as he spoke, a trace of mockery creeping
