From the very beginning, Eiffel had known perfectly well that this meeting was anything but a negotiation between equals.
Just as Jonas had said, once he reached an agreement with the Nathen Conglomerate, the board's hopes of taking the Chip from him became nothing more than a pipe dream.
In other words, this should have been a con in which Jonas exploited the loopholes in the other party's words to maximize his gains.
But after Kogar uttered that one sentence, the purpose of the meeting became simple and brutal.
As she watched Kogar's corpse slump over the conference table, Miss Eiffel wore a rather odd expression.
Although she knew what Jonas was like, she still couldn't help remarking:
"Is this what you meant by maximizing your gains, Mr. Jonas?"
Jonas's leisurely movements stiffened. After coughing twice, he offered a defense:
"Something unexpected happened along the way. Uh, in a sense, you could say this maximized my gains too?"
"As long as you're happy."
Eiffel sighed helplessly, then looked at the unconscious bodyguard beside Kogar and asked:
"What should we do with this man?"
"Whatever. Just make sure you clean it up properly."
Miss Eiffel nodded at that.
Then she walked behind the bodyguard, took his head in her arms, and gave it a forceful twist.
With a soft crack, the burly man went lifeless too.
Looking at the two corpses in the room, Eiffel knew she had more work ahead of her.
Disposing of people like this was the biggest headache. She couldn't simply throw them away, or the news would be all over District 25 the next day.
