Background / History
Xiao Qinghe comes from the modern world and was raised by Aunt Hong, whose care he regards as having given him a new life. He later develops a game/system adaptation of the novel Every Handsome Man Spoils Me, funded by the modern-world Bai Yuqing 120 125 128.
At eighteen, he joins a university spring outing after being coaxed into attending. With his glasses broken, he mistakes a white-robed stranger for the organizer, Bai Qi. The stranger is actually Bai Yuqing, who shelters him beneath a peach tree during a storm and landslide. Xiao Qinghe also instinctively tries to protect him, but afterward credits the real Bai Qi with the rescue 132.
The system sends Xiao Qinghe into the novel as Bai Yuqing’s poorly talented senior disciple. In the original plot, this disciple pursues Ouyang Susu, turns to demonic cultivation to become worthy of her, suffers cultivation deviation, and is slain by his master. By the opening chapter, Xiao Qinghe has spent three years following system missions and cultivating the main cast’s goodwill to escape that ending 1.
His apparent devotion to Ouyang Susu is therefore an assigned role rather than a reliable expression of his own feelings. He later explicitly distinguishes the original disciple’s love for her from his personal identity 99.
Appearance
Xiao Qinghe has a slender build, luminous pale skin, and a gentle, dignified bearing; his limited physical training gives him a notably delicate appearance 69.
- Cultivation-world clothing: Wears robes and a sect jade pendant that proves his membership in the Demon-Slaying Sect 1 69.
- Modern-world eyesight: Nearsighted and dependent on glasses during his university years 132.
- Half-demonic feature: A fang becomes visible during blood cravings associated with the Ghost King Spirit Pill 42.
- Frequent injuries: Repeatedly suffers chest wounds, bruising, and severe internal injuries throughout the story 8 17 96 114.
Personality
Xiao Qinghe is anxious, sarcastic, and strongly motivated by survival. He initially helps Xie Jun partly because he knows the future protagonist will become an exceptionally powerful protector. He conceals this calculation behind appeals to compassion and invents explanations whenever revealing his knowledge of the novel would endanger him 3 4 5.
His self-interest does not prevent genuine courage. He cannot comfortably ignore injustice, shields Xie Jun’s identity while wounded, stays behind so Bai Yulou and Luo Li can escape, and takes a potentially fatal attack meant for Bai Yuqing 8 25 90 103.
He interprets relationships through the original novel so rigidly that he repeatedly misses affection directed at himself. Xie Jun’s jealousy becomes, in his mind, evidence of interest in Ouyang Susu or Bai Liuli rather than him. Even reader comments pointing out his obliviousness fail to resolve the misunderstanding 10 25 26.
Although attracted to convenient cultivation shortcuts, he resents being dismissed as useless. His desire to improve is tied both to personal dignity and to protecting Bai Yuqing’s reputation from criticism. Later, he objects to being known chiefly through romantic gossip and insists on fighting despite his companions’ protectiveness 21 76 135.
Abilities & Skills
Dual Cultivation
Dual cultivation with Xie Jun provides a route around Xiao Qinghe’s poor ordinary cultivation results 15 22.
- Dramatically increases his magic power, senses, and swordsmanship 15 22.
- Includes a Breath-Exchange Method practiced while sleeping 21.
- According to Xie Jun’s reading of the manual, he can have only one cultivation partner because Xie Jun’s energy is already within him 21.
- Leaves demonic energy that can expose them to the Demon-Slaying Sect; the Rings of Deception are supplied to conceal it 15 21.
- Causes him to wake sore and drained after the documented overnight session, though he assumes this results from his low cultivation 22.
Swordsmanship and Combat Tactics
Xiao Qinghe favors practical advantages over fair-looking contests of strength.
- Channels energy into his sword to cut down trees after his cultivation improves 22.
- Uses repeated teleportation to attack Wen Changgeng from unpredictable directions, then immobilizes him with a talisman 28.
- Negotiates a share of captured Spirit Pills with Yan Yunhe rather than risk fighting both rivals 29.
- Remains weaker than Wen Changgeng in cultivation during the Heroes’ Conference; his victory depends on combining improved strength with unconventional tactics 76.
- Still cannot make a sword fly during the later dream storyline 108.
Heavenly Eye
A reader-funded system gift reveals a targeting marker visible only to Xiao Qinghe 90.
- Locates the core of Gui Sha’s demon-suppressing formation beneath his feet.
- Enables him to break the formation by driving his sword into the marked location.
- No broader applications are documented in the supplied passages.
Plot Knowledge and Impostor Recognition
His familiarity with Every Handsome Man Spoils Me lets him anticipate encounters, identify major characters, and recognize dangers 1 24 47 102.
- Recognizes Bai Liuli’s expected rescue scene and Bai Yulou’s original fate 24 47.
- Identifies the Human-Faced Ghost King and understands the danger of its deceptive attacks 102 103.
- Distinguishes the Ghost King’s imitation of Bai Yuqing from his real master through bearing rather than facial appearance 114.
- Becomes less reliable as the plot diverges: his assumptions about destined romances repeatedly obscure what is actually happening 25 26 30.
Borrowed Strength During the Body Swap
While occupying Bai Yuqing’s body, Xiao Qinghe gains access to its strength and imposing public identity 75 86 87.
- Reverses Xie Jun’s attack and pins Xie Jun down using the borrowed body’s strength 86.
- Commands deference from cultivators who recognize the Demon-Slaying Sect’s Chief Seat 87.
- Enters Gui Sha’s formation without the suppression that would affect his own half-demon body 89.
- Can still be injured and overwhelmed; possessing Bai Yuqing’s body does not make him invincible 89 90.
Domestic Skills and Calligraphy
- Handles Bai Yuqing’s laundry, meals, clothing, and daily needs on Thirteenth Peak 5 20.
- Brews peach blossom wine as a gift for his master 99 102.
- Writes “I was wrong” in elegant calligraphy while helping Xie Jun prepare an apology 86.

- Jade Gourd — Stores and counts Spirit Pills for the Heroes’ Conference rankings 27 28 30.

Relationships
- Bai Yuqing — Master, protector, and eventual lover. Xiao Qinghe initially courts his favor to avoid being killed, but develops genuine attachment and repeatedly risks himself for him. Their relationship is explicitly established as romantic in the extra 1 76 103 113 132.
- Xie Jun — Junior fellow disciple, cultivation partner, and persistent romantic pursuer. Xiao Qinghe saves Xie Jun and secures admission under Bai Yuqing, initially hoping for powerful backing. Their bond grows through mutual rescue, blood-sharing, and cultivation, though he frequently misreads Xie Jun’s feelings 3 5 15 21 30.

- Human-Faced Ghost King — Recurring enemy whose disguises, poison, and revenge attacks repeatedly threaten him. Ultimately kills him within the dream storyline 36 102 103 114.
- The system — Selects him as host, imposes reader-driven missions, and distributes rewards. It threatens punishment or an accelerated death plot for disobedience, then ejects him when character logic and the storyline collapse 1 9 48 90 116.
