Li Wei’s Arcanine defeated Red’s Snorlax in the opening battle, enduring its Belly Drum-powered attacks through Morning Sun and its own stamina before winning with Precipice Blade. With the score at 1-0, both trainers prepared to send out their second Pokémon.

• Red ordered Snorlax to use Belly Drum and attack Arcanine with High Horsepower and Mega Punches.
• Li Wei had Arcanine evade and counter with Extreme Speed and Flare Blitz, while Morning Sun and the Rainbow Wing restored its strength.
• Red launched one final High Horsepower, and Li Wei answered with Arcanine’s three Precipice Blades.
• Arcanine endured the clash and defeated Snorlax, giving Li Wei the first win and a 1-0 lead.
• Li Wei recalled the exhausted Arcanine, and he and Red prepared to send out their second Pokémon.

Red’s Espeon and Li Wei’s Diancie traded attacks without either gaining an advantage, while Li Wei’s Stealth Rock remained on Red’s side of the field. Red’s Aerodactyl was badly weakened by Stealth Rock and Dragapult’s burn before Dragapult defeated it, giving Li Wei a 2-0 lead.

• Li Wei had Diancie set Stealth Rock on Red’s side while Red had Espeon use Calm Mind.
• Espeon and Diancie exchanged attacks, but neither gained a clear advantage, and Diancie used Substitute to block Espeon’s Magical Leaf.
• Li Wei recalled Diancie as Red switched to Aerodactyl, which took damage from Stealth Rock upon entering the field.
• Dragapult used Will-O-Wisp to burn Aerodactyl, then countered its attacks and wore it down with Shadow Force and Sucker Punch.
• Dragapult finished Aerodactyl with Dragon Darts, and the referee declared it unable to battle.
