Ye Ruan joined Gu Cheng’s team as they evacuated survivors from South City and faced betrayal, a brutal farmstead, and a zombie attack. After Gu Cheng confessed his feelings and revealed his wolf form, they continued searching for Fang and the others while caring for Ren Fei'er.

• Gu Cheng rescued Ye Ruan from the zombies, and Ye Ruan joined Team One as they prepared to evacuate South City’s survivors.
• As Ye Ruan grew closer to Gu Cheng and the team, they chose his route through Zhelin District and escaped a zombie horde for a secluded hillside camp.
• A trap at Ren Bing’s farmhouse settlement led to an attack on Gu Cheng’s group, and Ye Ruan killed Ren Bing after learning of the abuse his men had inflicted on women and girls.
• When zombies attacked the settlement, Ye Ruan found the wounded Ren Fei'er, who revealed that Ren Bing’s men had killed her mother and spilled blood to draw a Level Three Zombie.
• Ye Ruan rescued Ren Fei'er as Gu Cheng drove through the horde, then treated her while the group lost its planned route at a bridge.
• Gu Cheng confessed that he liked Ye Ruan and regretted missing the chance to meet him three years earlier, and Ye Ruan kissed him.
• Ye Ruan asked to see Gu Cheng’s wolf form, then slept in the gray wolf’s fur before they continued on their way.
• At a blocked bridge, Ye Ruan found blue cloth from a First Team uniform, and Gu Cheng realized Fang and the others had taken another route.

Ye Ruan and Gu Cheng reunited with their scattered teammates, survived a zombie horde, and returned to the base after Ye Ruan left with Li Tuantuan. Ye Ruan and Gu Cheng reconciled despite Nan Han’s control and ended the arc together at the Training Ground, where Gu Cheng introduced Ye Ruan as his husband.

• Ye Ruan and Gu Cheng found the overturned bus, then followed Yu Jingjing’s markers to reunite with Fang Ci and the survivors at a printing factory.
• After Lou Yu revealed that Ye Ruan sought merit to free his mother, Ye Ruan let him go, and Gu Cheng supported him as the group prepared to leave for S City.
• Zhao Quan kidnapped Li Tuantuan and tried to seize Ye Ruan’s weapons and vehicle, but Gu Cheng and the others captured him and killed him.
• As a zombie horde overwhelmed the group, Ye Ruan shielded Gu Cheng from a phosphorus bomb’s contamination and passed out from his injuries.
• Ye Ruan drugged the group and left with Li Tuantuan and Ren Fei'er, while Gu Cheng promised to follow, and at the base, Commander Li agreed to help Ye Ruan free Ye Qingman from Nan Han.
• Ye Ruan reunited with Ye Qingman, learned Gu Cheng had returned injured, and discovered that Gu Cheng had faked his injuries to draw him to the hospital.
• Nan Han announced a change to the teams, and Ye Ruan proposed a competition, and Gu Cheng caught Ye Ruan as he fled, promised to protect him, and reconciled with him in the library.
• Gu Cheng took Ye Ruan to the Training Ground, gave him his paycheck card and a black team uniform, and called him his husband in front of the First Team.

Ye Ruan and Gu Cheng’s field exercise turned deadly when the teams discovered that City H had fallen and Chi Yuan died protecting Ye Ruan. As S City collapsed, they fled with their teammates instead of boarding the evacuation planes, reached a temple refuge, and faced a gigantic mutant wild cat.

• Ye Ruan defeated Daniel in a series of contests, joined the Fourth Team, and later beat Gu Cheng in a sparring match after tricking him into surrendering.
• During the Siyang Mountain exercise, Ye Ruan’s team fought rival players while Gu Cheng and Ye Ruan met secretly, but a Level Three parrot and a giant earthworm attacked the group.
• Gu Cheng helped Ye Ruan kill the earthworm, but Chi Yuan died shielding Ye Ruan, and Ye Ruan demanded that Nan Han explain why Headquarters had concealed City H’s collapse.
• Xu Chu told Gu Cheng and Ye Ruan that the base planned to evacuate to Island W, but a zombie breach forced Ye Ruan to flee toward the airfield with Ye Qingman and the others.
• When Cai Hao tried to leave their teams behind, Ye Ruan confronted Nan Han, and Gu Cheng, Yu Jingjing, and their companions stayed behind to fight their way out as the evacuation planes departed.
• Gu Cheng drove the group away from the base, rescued Xia Yue, and led them toward Lin City, where they fought zombies and eventually settled at a temple.
• At the temple, Nan Han revealed that he was Ye Ruan’s biological father, and Ye Ruan rejected him and blamed him for Yuan Yuan’s death.
• A gigantic mutant wild cat approached the temple, and Ye Ruan knocked Lou Yu and Yu Jingjing off the wall before Gu Cheng caught them and signaled everyone to stay silent.

Ye Ruan and his companions rescued Gu Cheng from Haochuan Base, fought their way through Lin City, and reached the Research Institute. There, Ye Ruan discovered that his wound was turning black as Li Luo revealed the possible link between Li Tuantuan and an antidote, while the group prepared to continue their journey.

• A giant cat and a hidden observer threatened the group, and Ye Ruan was injured after slipping into an Animal Trap while investigating outside.
• Ye Ruan led a rescue mission to Haochuan Base, where Gu Cheng and the others had been captured, and the group killed Shang Ying and Shang Xiong before escaping with the captives.
• Ye Ruan and his companions fought a zombie tide, drove off the giant cat, killed a human-headed gecko, and helped reinforce Haochuan Base's gate before leaving with Jiang Qing.
• An enormous fly and its eggs forced the group to flee the residential compound, and Ye Ruan was scratched by a woman who soon turned into a Zombie.
• Ye Ruan's wound turned black as the group reached the Research Institute, where Li Luo told them that Li Tuantuan was the dragon special person who might carry an antidote to the zombie virus.
• Ye Ruan showed Gu Cheng his blackened scratches, and Gu Cheng broke down fearing that Ye Ruan would become a Zombie.
• Lou Yu and Lu Yao confessed their feelings for each other, while Ye Ruan, Yang Xiaomian, and Yu Jingjing toured the Research Institute and Yu Jingjing went looking for a bathroom near the specimen room.
