Xie De remembered a line he had read in a book before-animals could use their vomeronasal organs to detect residual chemicals drifting through the air, also known as pheromones, to determine another creature's sex and whether it posed a threat. They could also use them to track prey and predict earthquakes.
This was an ability humans had lost in the course of evolution.
It was also why dogs could easily distinguish humans from impostors.
The little dachshund was no longer afraid of them at all. It approached Xie De affectionately and rubbed against his calf, its little eyes darting now and then toward the ham bread on the table.
Xie De tossed it a piece and let Coal Ball and Money String out as well. Coal Ball shook out its fur, jumped from the table onto the sofa, and curled up against Xie De's leg, looking curiously at Wei Yunmo and Wei Yanchi with its green eyes.
Wei Yanchi reached out to pet it. Coal Ball stood up disdainfully and moved to Xie De's other side to lean against him, then tilted its head at Wei Yunmo. It still remembered this child.
Money String scurried nimbly from the table onto the wall, then up to the ceiling. With a body the size of an adult's arm, it looked like a facehugger.
Having failed to pet the cat, Wei Yanchi withdrew his hand and continued, "The tricky part now is that we have to solve this instance while watching out for the Eden Faction. 009 wants to go after you, sir, and there's an arrogant demon watching the show from the shadows."
Wei Yanchi said with a trace of frustration, "If Asmodeus can't be trusted, then neither can the instance clues he provided. I seriously doubt the truth of that story
