Background / History

Laboratory Origins and Escape

The Laboratory created Wei Yunmo using test subject 009’s genes. Its research into his regeneration focused on cell division and used planarians as the original organism, with the goal of enabling humans to regrow severed limbs. Wei Yunmo grew up undergoing horrifying experiments, but did not learn that 009 was his father until much later 20 201 269.

Qi Yuan kept him for the Laboratory and abused him. After escaping, Wei Yunmo avoided surveillance-heavy cities and hid in remote mountains. Xie De found him on the seventh day of his escape, starving, barefoot, and battered. Believing Xie De might be a Laboratory executioner, he initially accepted the gun pointed at his head without resistance 20 22.

Life with Mr. 39

Xie De fed Wei Yunmo and took him to a sparse safe house, introducing himself only as “39.” Wei Yunmo suspected his rescuer belonged to a secret organization opposed to the Laboratory and repeatedly tried to work out why he had been taken in. Xie De subsequently killed Qi Yuan while the latter was searching for the runaway 20 21 22.

Their household was not entirely peaceful: Wei Yunmo killed an adult burglar, then told Xie De that the man had been weak and that he himself was unhurt. Nevertheless, he began settling into domestic routines, arranging breakfast and replacing Xie De’s cigarettes with fruit candies to discourage morning smoking 28 30 31.

On his first permitted outing, he wore a tracking watch and was restricted to a ten-kilometer radius. Lu Nana introduced him to neighborhood children, giving him an unfamiliar opportunity to play with peers. When Xie De collected him that evening and introduced himself as his guardian, Wei Yunmo briefly felt the safety of being an ordinary child, though he still doubted that protection could be unconditional 31 32.

Transfer and Medical Apprenticeship

After Orion attacked them, Xie De took Wei Yunmo to Huang Zhuowang’s secluded house. With the Laboratory now aware of them, 455 proposed moving the boy somewhere it could not reach: TC730’s auxiliary space. Xie De delivered him to a high-tech laboratory staffed by NPC researchers, where Pearl received him. Wei Yunmo experienced the separation as rejection and asked whether he would see 39 again 52 53.

He later became Anbers’s 182nd student. At their reunion in the Monastery hospital, Xie De found him taller, quieter, and more reserved. Anbers used his regenerative body as a teaching aid, deliberately severing a wrist vein so he could observe bleeding and healing before consulting a patient with a similar injury 80.

Wei Yunmo also enforced the hospital’s rules against players. He identified Wei Yanchi’s group as invaders, rallied the Orphanage children against them, and brutally injured Zhuoerte and Beiwei. Xie De intervened and ordered him to stand down; despite confusion and disappointment, he obeyed. He then departed with Anbers and Dunpli 81 82 83.

Medical Work and Family Discovery

His studies expanded into gynecological medicine, infertility treatment, and artificial uterus research. He later treated Beiwei and delivered medicine on Anbers’s orders. Xie De’s praise for his work prompted an earnest promise to improve further 147 175 176.

During the earthquake crisis, Wei Yunmo used his knowledge of the Laboratory’s layout to move through its lower levels. He refused to leave simply because he was a child and urged Ant to look after the stranded 009 instead. Ant then revealed their biological relationship 201.

Wei Yunmo remained with 009 after the Laboratory abandoned the damaged equipment keeping him alive. He told him about his teacher and new life, stayed through his death, and grieved afterward. Anbers and Xie De arrived shortly afterward to take him away 206.

Demonic Interference and 009’s Return

While accompanying Anbers through another instance, Wei Yunmo followed Ying Lin’s investigation into Hell. Their encounter with Asmodeus forced them to flee; he was subsequently captured and used as bait to lure his teacher into the real world. During the resulting military surveillance of Anbers’s hospital, Hu Songlin helped him slip away unnoticed 260 261 269 283.

Lou Xuelan later drew Anbers toward Vampire’s instance and put Wei Yunmo in contact with the apparently resurrected 009. Wei Yunmo challenged 009’s claim that he had returned through a demonic bargain, arguing that his father’s life of captivity and service to others should not have condemned him to Hell. He also refused the Eden Faction’s plan to leave Earth for a remote Space Base 316 317.

When 009 tried to keep him, Wei Yunmo escaped by cutting off a finger and feigning a life-threatening injury. He reached Xie De and reported that 009 had kidnapped Anbers and threatened both his teacher and rescuer. His finger had already regrown when he explained the escape 315 319.

During the later fighting, he followed Xie De’s order to escort the injured vampire Luxi back to the Church with Beiwei. After Hell and 009 disappeared, Wei Yunmo quietly apologized to Xie De, who encouraged him to continue his medical education rather than dwelling on recent events 329 333.

Original Predetermined Fate

According to 455’s account of the original plot, Wei Yunmo would have become an increasingly emotionless Laboratory researcher. After accidentally entering an Instance, he would have captured players in the real world and experimented many veterans to death. He nearly killed the protagonist, Wei Yanchi, before losing their prolonged conflict and dying at his hands 20.

That account describes his original trajectory, not the life documented after Xie De rescues him. His later appearances instead show him working as Anbers’s apprentice and remaining alive after the Hell crisis 176 333.

Appearance

• At introduction: Scrawny and shorter than Xie De’s shoulder, with bruises around his mouth, numb black eyes, and yellowish hair attributed to malnutrition. He wears an ill-fitting white lab coat and no shoes 20.
• After settling into the safe house: Fair, delicate skin and deeply black hair and eyes; his gestures carry a little gentleman’s effortless elegance 31.

Personality

Wei Yunmo’s early submissiveness is rooted in survival rather than simple timidity. He quietly assesses weapons, pursuers, and possible organizational motives, often assuming that kindness must serve some practical purpose. Even after Xie De calls himself his guardian, Wei Yunmo doubts that a powerful figure would protect someone without expecting usefulness in return 20 21 32.

Under Anbers, he develops meticulous manners and a composed, scholarly bearing. He tolerates painful lessons without outward protest, takes medical work seriously, and tries to preserve his dignity when provoked. That restraint coexists with cruelty: he accepts the Orphanage’s lethal hierarchy as normal and turns violently against suspected invaders 80 81 252 257.

His attachment to Xie De exposes a less controlled side. He worries during 39’s absences, is distressed by his pain, and treats his approval as deeply important. Wei Yanchi’s closeness to Xie De provokes jealousy, embarrassment, and angry confrontations; 455 interprets this as an idolized rescuer being claimed by the boy’s natural rival 48 176 256.

He nevertheless insists on making his own choices. He stays with the dying 009, questions his later resurrection, and rejects both enforced reunion and flight from Earth. When Anbers is endangered, his little-adult composure finally breaks, and he seeks safety in Xie De’s arms 206 315 316 317.
