Wei Yanchi had been sucked into the Mirror.
Xie De looked at the eyeball in his hand, then recalled what Wei Yanchi had said afterward. He realized the man had plans of his own and might be intending to turn the trap against whoever had set it.
But with Wei Yanchi gone, didn't that mean he had to work alone again?
He had thought he could coast all the way through. So much for getting his hopes up.
Xie De put away the eyeball and used his flashlight to examine the passage. Its walls were built from ordinary stone, and a row of candleholders held half-burned, unlit candles. The passage led straight to the Mirror in one direction and straight to the Church outside in the other, except for one spot where the wall was slightly recessed.
Xie De walked over and found a stone door. It swung open at the lightest touch. Behind it was another passage, stretching into unfathomable darkness with no telling where it led.
Wei Yanchi had come in before them, so he should have seen this stone door before Xie De. Knowing his temperament, he must have gone inside.
Wei Yanchi had also mentioned using the Ghost Bride's power. If he had needed to use that power, he must have encountered hostile forces, which meant there was probably danger behind this stone door.
Danger connected to the Mirror and the vampire instance.
Flashlight in hand, Xie De leaned against the wall and tucked his loose hair behind his ear. He quietly took a deep breath, steeled himself, and called Asmodeus.
Before he could speak, a sweet female voice came from the other end. Asmodeus had probably been sitting beside the Communicator all along, eagerly waiting for them to call so he could feed them his
