Xie De had never believed in any religion. It was only because the instances he had encountered were so steeped in religious elements that he had developed some understanding of his own.
He remembered a post he had once come across asking how to tell a Catholic church from a Protestant church. Someone had replied that a Catholic church had a figure hanging on its cross, while a Protestant church did not.
What if there was no cross in the church at all?
That should be a pretty serious question, right?
Xie De suddenly remembered the Elder of the Illuminati. When he had asked whether God really existed, the Elder had pointed at his heart, then at his head.
He had not understood it then, and even now he only half understood. Asmodeus had told Wei Yunmo, "God does not exist because Wei Yanchi exists." It sounded like nonsense Asmodeus had made up, but it led Xie De down other lines of thought.
For example, Wei Yanchi had originally been the protagonist of this world. For a protagonist, the world's development was supposed to serve his growth.
So if even the world's development served the protagonist's existence, there was no need for God to exist.
But Wei Yanchi had burned the Book of Creation with his own hands...
Deep in thought, Xie De shifted his gaze away from the church's main hall. Far to the right, he spotted a narrow passage. There were no lights inside, only darkness. Wei Yanchi was probably in there.
Just as he began to move, Coal Ball's fur suddenly bristled. The cat jumped off the chair, landed beside him, and hissed in one direction. Wei Yunmo immediately pressed close to him as well.
A demon walked into the church.
Xie De tilted his head slightly.
