Background / History

Yuji grows up in Sendai and attends Sugisawa Third High School. He regularly visits his hospitalized grandfather, Wasuke, bringing food and replacing the flowers in his room. He joins the Occult Research Club to help protect his friends, following Wasuke’s advice to help people even without recognition 14 15 40.

His origins are revealed to Wasuke rather than to Yuji. Mashiro states that Kaori Itadori died before Yuji’s birth and that Kenjaku subsequently occupied her body. According to her account, Kenjaku deliberately created Yuji as a vessel for Sukuna. She provides no proof, but Wasuke believes her because of his existing suspicions about Jin and Kaori 11.

Wasuke asks Mashiro to keep the truth about Yuji’s parents from him and entrusts her with his protection. Shortly before dying, he also asks Yuji to protect Mashiro and use his strength to save others.
