Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Initial weakened state 1 2 Possesses adaptation and the Sword of Extermination, but begins with empty cursed-energy reserves. Combat is needed to awaken her dormant adaptation.
Adaptation activated 2 A convenience-store curse’s strike activates the Dharma Wheel. Absorbing the defeated spirit restores a small amount of cursed energy; the same shoulder attack would now cause at least 30% less damage.
Approximately Grade 3 3 Absorbs three spirits’ cursed energy after rescuing a man. Learns that different toxins require separate adaptations.
Approaching Grade 2; technique reproduction unlocked 6 Defeats three Grade 2 spirits, nearly doubling her cursed energy. Adaptation lets her analyze and reproduce Space Cutting, rather than merely resist it.
Grade 2 9 Absorbs the Blazing Inferno Monk’s remaining energy after defeating it with Nanami. Acquires its flame properties and gains increased speed.
Improved Grade 2 abilities 13 Exorcises more than thirty spirits. The Dharma Wheel now analyzes different attacks in parallel, while Murasame’s absorption, anti-curse effectiveness, and energy-cutting improve.
Resonance reproduction demonstrated 21 Imitates Nobara’s Resonance through her fist during a three-on-one spar, winning while reportedly using only 30–40% of her strength.
Grade 1 23 Exorcises and absorbs Tide Echo, reaching Grade 1 cursed-energy levels and acquiring water manipulation and sonic techniques.
Post–Grade 1 physical and weapon evolution 24 Demonstrates improved strength, precision, healing, and hair regrowth. Murasame can now manifest from her body and switch between solid and intangible forms.
Additional special-grade cursed energy absorbed 30 32 Drains Jogo before his rescue, then absorbs Hanami’s severed arm.
Above ordinary Grade 1 34 Assesses her reserves as exceeding those of an ordinary Grade 1 and believes she can face a Special Grade curse. Her attempted Domain Expansion still collapses.
Mahoraga traits physically manifested 44 Mahito’s Reverse Technique forces two pairs of feathered head-wings to emerge. The Dharma Wheel stabilizes the resulting soul upheaval after temporary immobilization.
Enhanced perception 49 50 Cursed energy flows through her wings; her sensing range increases from roughly 300 meters to 450 meters. She still cannot use Idle Transfiguration.

Background / History

Arrival and Survival in Shibuya

Mashiro arrives in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen in June 2018, retaining memories of a previous life and the original story. She recognizes Mahoraga’s adaptation and Sword of Extermination in her new body and resolves to save people while challenging powerful opponents. Her Kujo identity appears to have been supplied by adaptation itself 1 6.

Initially without money, identification, or shelter, she avoids seeking refuge at Jujutsu High because she fears the Higher-Ups would study her before she could defend herself. Curse hunting becomes both her source of power and her livelihood: her first paid rescue earns ¥50,000, which she spends on clothing, food, lodging, and a secondhand phone 2 3 4.

Nanami encounters her while she is wounded and living alone. Their first joint mission establishes a working relationship despite his objections to her reckless methods. He pays her ¥1,000,000, offers future work, and later arranges forged identification for ¥300,000 so she can travel and obtain lodging 7 9 10.

Sendai and the Itadori Family

Mashiro travels to Sendai and rents an apartment overlooking Sugisawa Third High School, intending to observe Yuji’s encounter with Sukuna’s finger. She approaches Wasuke Itadori first, revealing Kenjaku’s involvement in Yuji’s birth and openly stating her intention to make Yuji Sukuna’s vessel as a means of eliminating Sukuna. In return for Wasuke’s trust, she promises to keep Yuji alive 10 11.

Wasuke asks her to withhold the truth about Yuji’s parents and introduces her as an old friend’s granddaughter. Mashiro and Yuji exchange contact information and become friendly, but she deliberately leaves the sealed finger with the Occult Research Club to preserve the events she knows. Her growing affection makes it harder to remain detached from the suffering she expects 12 14.

When Sukuna takes control of Yuji, Mashiro challenges and wounds him before Yuji regains his body. Afterward, she claims the role of Yuji’s older sister on the strength of her promise to Wasuke; Yuji accepts it despite being three years older 17 18.

Independent Life in Tokyo

Mashiro retrieves Wasuke’s ashes and brings them to Yuji at Tokyo Jujutsu High. She moves to Tokyo because Yuji is there, but declines Gojo’s offer of school accommodation, preferring privacy and independent living 19.

Her nearby apartment becomes a gathering place for Yuji, Nobara, Megumi, and Gojo. Alongside paid missions, she begins helping the students improve their fighting, exposing weaknesses in their teamwork and offering individual instruction 20 21 22 24 25.

The Higher-Ups’ Conspiracy

After the Juvenile Detention Center disaster, Mashiro and Gojo recognize that coordinated assignments kept both of them away while Yuji and his classmates were endangered. Mashiro blames herself for arriving too late, remains beside Yuji until he revives, and agrees to conceal his survival while he trains in secret 27 28.

With Nanami’s assistance, they recover records identifying Sakakibara Shigeru, Yoshio Tanaka, and Hikaru Sato as participants in the falsified dispatches. Mashiro kills all three in one night and removes evidence of the attacks. Tanaka’s laptop and Sato’s final testimony lead to Kazanin at Kyoto Jujutsu Headquarters, but she postpones pursuing him until after the exchange event 33 34 35.

Mahito and the Goodwill Event

Mashiro’s resistance to Idle Transfiguration draws Mahito’s curiosity and Kenjaku’s attention. Kenjaku considers using Yuji as leverage against her and orders further investigation into whether her ability is truly Copy 36 48.

Mahito eventually uses Idle Transfiguration’s Reverse Technique to draw Mahoraga’s traits out of her soul, painfully fixing feathered wings into her body. Yuji intervenes while she is immobilized; once stabilized, she rejoins him and blocks Mahito’s retreat 43 44.

Before the Goodwill Event, Mashiro gives Gojo a partly fabricated account of being a Kujo-family experimental subject. She then warns of a likely coordinated attack and helps plan storehouse protection, observation posts, communications, and evacuation. She volunteers to confront an invading special grade while Gojo handles barriers and outside threats 49 50.

Appearance

  • Silver hair and crimson eyes: Her most immediately recognizable features. She sometimes ties her hair into a high ponytail 1 11.
  • Small build: Stands 144 cm tall and is readily mistaken for an ordinary child 18 20.
  • Dharma Wheel: Appears above her head and turns as her adaptation processes attacks 2 6.
  • Feathered head-wings: Two pairs of small, silver-feathered wings emerge near her ears after Mahito’s Reverse Technique. They remain visible afterward and cannot be concealed adequately by a baseball cap 44 47 48.
  • Low-profile clothing: Initially favors dark clothing, a tracksuit, and a cap to attract less attention 4 7.

Personality

Mashiro is combative, theatrical, and openly excited by dangerous opponents. She taunts enemies to provoke further attacks and treats fighting Sukuna as an exhilarating opportunity rather than merely a threat. Her insistence that strength comes from adaptation often overrides Nanami’s warnings, although she continues to feel the pain of her injuries 3 8 9 17.

Her independence is practical as well as stubborn. She budgets for necessities, negotiates mission fees, and guards her privacy. Money matters to her, but she honors agreements: after her first paid rescue, she returns everything beyond the agreed ¥50,000 3 4 19.

Beneath her bluntness, she is protective and increasingly attached to her friends. She refuses to presume missing investigators dead, offers understated comfort to Nobara, and embraces Yuji when he revives. Threats to those bonds bring out a colder side: she investigates patiently, kills the conspiracy’s operatives without hesitation, and delays further retaliation only for strategic reasons 23 27 28 35.

Abilities & Skills

Adaptation and the Dharma Wheel

  • Damage analysis: Her body analyzes attacks through the Dharma Wheel, changing its skin, muscles, and cursed-energy flow to reduce subsequent damage 2.
  • Progressive resistance: Repeated exposure improves resistance to physical strikes, heat, venom, corrosion, and cursed techniques; sufficiently completed adaptation can render a specific attack harmless 3 8 13 23.
  • Parallel processing: After reaching Grade 2, she can adapt to several attack types simultaneously 13.
  • Limits: She must survive long enough to adapt. Early on, overwhelming numbers and varied attacks threaten to outpace the wheel, and distinct poisons need separate analysis 3 4.
  • Soul stabilization: The wheel stabilizes the disruption caused by Mahito forcibly manifesting her shikigami traits, but the process temporarily overloads it 44 50.

Cursed-Technique Analysis and Reproduction

  • Learning through exposure: Understanding an adapted technique’s structure allows Mashiro to reproduce it, an extension she identifies as different from Mahoraga’s original counter-based adaptation 6.
  • Technique disruption: Analysis lets her identify weak nodes and collapse incoming spatial slashes with her own cursed energy 6.
  • Combined techniques: She layers learned abilities together, including Space Cutting with Straw Doll Technique and Resonance, or water manipulation with sonic vibration 24 30.
  • Not unrestricted Copy: Idle Transfiguration has no effect on her and therefore does not trigger adaptation. Its Reverse Technique affects her, but she has not successfully analyzed or reproduced it 50.

Physical Strength, Combat Instincts, and Healing

  • Instinctive combat: Blocks attacks before conscious planning catches up and becomes better at anticipating enemy movements during adaptation 2 6 8.
  • Durability and regeneration: Wounds close rapidly; absorbed cursed energy further nourishes her injured body. Later, even Hanami’s drilling vines leave only faint marks 4 9 32.
  • Improved control: After reaching Grade 1, she can crack wood with her palm or leave a precise fingertip indentation. She compares her unreinforced defense and explosive power to Maki’s 24.
  • Rapid hair regrowth: Hair cut during the Tide Echo mission grows back substantially by that evening 24.
  • Controlled sparring: Defeats Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi together without seriously injuring them and deliberately sets aside Murasame 21.

Space Cutting

  • Origin: Learned by analyzing Gap Woman’s spatial rifts 6.
  • Applications: Produces ranged spatial slashes, destroys Divine Dogs during sparring, and cuts apart Jogo’s lava bombs 21 30.
  • Limits: Its effectiveness varies with the target; early slashes do little against the Blazing Inferno Monk’s rocky body 8.

Infernal Flames

  • Origin: Acquired through adaptation to the Blazing Inferno Monk’s heat, impact, and destructive cursed will 9.
  • Applications: Burns and contains curses, projects flame from Murasame, and creates openings against Sukuna 13 17.
  • Piercing Star Lance: Turns seized vines into flame-bearing projectiles and throws them at Hanami 31.

Water Control and Sound Waves

  • Origin: Both techniques are acquired from Tide Echo 23.
  • Water shaping: Extracts water from the air, forms needles and walls, dries clothing, and drains flooded areas 23 24 25.
  • Sonic reinforcement: Vibrations strengthen water barriers, improve penetrating attacks, and shatter Mahito’s bone teeth through Murasame 24 32.
  • Internal disruption: Defeats the Chichibu curse by disrupting its water circulation and using sonic resonance to rupture its mouth from within 25.
  • Volume-dependent precision: Fine control depends on the amount of water; her larger-scale capacity remains under testing after acquiring the technique 23.

Straw Doll Technique and Resonance

  • Unarmed reproduction: Matches Nobara’s cursed-energy frequency and imitates Resonance through her fist 21.
  • Remote combination attack: Places a spatial wound on Jogo at roughly 400 meters, then uses Resonance to produce spikes within it and sever him at the waist 30.

Cursed-Energy Perception

  • Detection: Locates spirits and reads cursed-energy fluctuations and residue 11 50.
  • Range: Increases from approximately 300 meters to 450 meters after her wings emerge 50.
  • Limits: Detects general strength and direction rather than every detail. Dagon’s mist mixes energy traces and interferes with her ability to distinguish targets 32 50.

Foreknowledge and Tactical Instruction

  • Story knowledge: Remembers the original Jujutsu Kaisen plot, including Sukuna’s awakening, the Shibuya Incident, and the Culling Game 1.
  • Strategic use: Uses that knowledge to approach Yuji, track Mahito’s interest in Junpei, and anticipate an attack on the Goodwill Event while concealing her source 10 38 49 50.
  • Coaching: Teaches Nobara to form cursed-energy nails, advises Yuji to break predictable attack rhythms, and instructs Megumi to track his own position and preserve escape routes 24 25.

Domain Research

  • Observation: Studies the remnants of Jogo’s domain while protected from Unlimited Void’s information overload by touching Gojo 30.
  • Incomplete development: Jogo’s domain leaves an imprint in her Dharma Wheel, but her own attempted domain collapses almost immediately. She attributes this to insufficient cursed energy and understanding 34.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Murasame — Sword of Extermination: A roughly 60 cm katana with a silver-white blade and black hilt. Initially retains limited effectiveness against cursed spirits and the ability to cut cursed energy; Mashiro gives it the name Murasame after her first exorcism 1 2.
    • Absorbs cursed energy and transfers it to her, replenishing reserves and supporting growth and recovery 2 9.
    • Becomes more effective against curses and ranged attacks as she advances 13.
    • Can manifest from her body, disappear into her palm, and alternate between solid and intangible forms 24 25 35.
  • Forged resident record and driver’s license: Obtained through Nanami for travel and lodging under the Kujo Mashiro identity 10.
  • Secondhand phone: Purchased for ¥10,000; used for navigation, LINE conversations, mission coordination, and sharing investigative evidence 4 10 33.
  • Violin/instrument case: Conceals Murasame during travel and hospital visits before the sword gains body-storage functionality 10 11.

Relationships

  • Yuji Itadori — Chosen younger brother and the focus of her protective promise. His cooking and visits become meaningful parts of her daily life; his apparent death prompts guilt, grief, and retaliation against those responsible 18 22 27 28.
  • Wasuke Itadori — Entrusts Yuji to her and asks her to conceal the truth about his parents. Mashiro later retrieves his ashes and delivers them to Yuji 11 12 19.
  • Kento Nanami — Recurring mission partner, source of paid work, and investigator assisting her against the conspiracy. He respects her strength but repeatedly objects to her injury-based learning method 9 23 28 37.
  • Satoru Gojo — Tactical ally who offers support, teaches her about domains, and helps investigate the Higher-Ups. He suspects she conceals the source of her knowledge but ultimately affirms his trust in her 22 30 33 49 50.
  • Nobara Kugisaki — Friend and training pupil. Mashiro teaches her cursed-energy nail formation and offers quiet encouragement during her recovery 24 28.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — Friend and training pupil whose firsthand account supports Mashiro’s strength. She coaches his battlefield awareness and later threatens harsh drills after he tells Gojo about her wings 20 25 47.
  • Mahito — Enemy fascinated by her soul and resistance to Idle Transfiguration. His Reverse Technique causes her permanent head-wings and temporary immobilization 36 43 44 48.
  • Kenjaku — Regards her as a major obstacle and potentially valuable subject. Plans to investigate her abilities and exploit her attachment to Yuji 36 48.
  • Sukuna — Desired opponent who becomes personally hostile after she wounds and taunts him; their first fight ends when Yuji retakes control 1 17.

Trivia

  • Her “older sister” status reverses their physical ages: Mashiro is twelve, while Yuji is fifteen 18.
  • Her account of being a Kujo-family experimental subject is explicitly a half-truth and fabrication, not a confirmed explanation of her origins. Gojo nevertheless remembers records of related family research 49.
  • She prefers sweetened drinks and dislikes bitter oolong tea 22 23.
  • Her first homemade cake is dry and insufficiently sweet; despite her friends’ encouragement, she privately decides not to bake again 22.
