Background / History

Arrival and Jujutsu High

Yang Jian transmigrates into the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and encounters a Grade 1 cursed spirit at Tokyo Metropolitan Third Hospital only three hours later. The God-Level Experience Card System activates immediately before a lethal venom attack, giving him temporary Ghost Eye powers. After destroying the curse, he confronts Gojo and Geto despite having no cursed energy 1.

With no money, identification, or accommodation, he negotiates room and board at Jujutsu High. He conceals his transmigration behind a partly fabricated account of an unusual constitution and a journey from China to seek help. Yaga accepts him as a special collaborator rather than a student, in exchange for confidentiality and research cooperation 2 3.

The expired trial card leaves him powerless, but cold patches persist where the Ghost Eyes manifested. Shoko identifies these as remnants of an external power using his body as a vessel. Meanwhile, a pale supernatural presence begins appearing within the school 4 5 6.

First Supernatural Incursion

Yang Jian uses a Ghost Hand trial to restrain the White Ghost, then directs Gojo, Geto, and Shoko in making an improvised pure-gold container. Exchanging the imprisoned ghost gives him enough points to purchase permanent Ghost Eye powers. He then secures Gojo’s financial support for more containment equipment 8 9.

At the Third Hospital, he overrides the invading ghost’s domain and separates the supernatural threat from four artificially raised cursed spirits. Gojo and Geto destroy the curses while Yang Jian captures the B-rank Gray Ghost with a white candle, straw-rope circle, gold body bag, and gold coffin. He suspects Kenjaku’s involvement in the cultivated curses but leaves the investigation to Jujutsu High 10.

Afterward, he admits that supernatural invasions followed his arrival in this world. With further incursions temporarily suspended, he purchases Ghost Shadow and prepares for the Star Plasma Vessel mission 11.

Star Plasma Vessel Mission

Yang Jian rescues Riko Amanai from her bombed room with his Ghost Domain. Although he spots Toji Fushiguro and Shiu Kong nearby, he avoids a premature confrontation 13.

When he later faces Toji, he refuses to surrender Riko and instead offers a deal: destroy the Time Vessel Association, split its money, and leave Yang Jian to take the blame. The system subsequently records Toji as having survived and become a partner 16 17.

Yang Jian brings Shoko to treat the wounded Geto while Gojo independently revives through Reverse Cursed Technique. Riko ultimately refuses assimilation with Tengen and chooses to live. The mission earns Yang Jian the highest plot-deviation rating and 500,000 points, which he uses to expand his arsenal and strengthen Ghost Shadow 17 18.

Ghost Wall and Institutional Conflict

During the Adachi Ward incident, Ghost Shadow resists Ghost Wall’s absorption. Yang Jian tracks the ghost’s true body and dismembers it into six pieces with the Chopping Knife, collapsing its fog and restoring the swallowed apartment building. Rather than exploit Ghost Wall’s potentially unlimited growth, he chooses the safer mid-stage Ghost Eye upgrade 20 21.

Headquarters subsequently tries to compel him into an investigation. He breaks two inspectors’ wrists, immobilizes their leader, and releases them with a warning. Gojo arranges an assistant appointment to protect him, then sends him to investigate seventeen disappearances in Funabashi. Yang Jian destroys the quasi-special-grade curse there and rescues the missing sorcerer Kijima 23 24 25.

Headquarters eventually abandons its formal investigation and grants him “Free Associate” status. The arrangement lets him choose his missions but suppresses his official achievements and advancement. Yang Jian accepts the autonomy and begins seeking higher-value targets through underground contacts 27.

Underground Hunting and the Bounty

Through Toji, Yang Jian establishes contact with Shiu Kong and purchases access to intelligence on Grade 1 and stronger cursed spirits. The resulting hunts take him through Chichibu, Yokohama, and Shinjuku, where he finds a Sukuna finger 28 29 30.

A Nagoya assignment doubles as Headquarters’ attempt to test and exhaust him. After defeating its quasi-special-grade curse, Yang Jian discovers the observer Crow and rewrites his memories, turning him into a controlled informant who reports a fabricated account 32 33.

Surviving Time Vessel Association members place a thirty-million bounty on him. Yang Jian attacks their gathering at Kyoto’s Old Quarry, kills the assembled curse users, seizes their gold, and has Shiu Kong cancel the bounty and supply a special-grade lead 33 34.

Shibuya Laboratory

Yang Jian learns that Headquarters is cultivating a special-grade cursed spirit beneath Shibuya to experiment with Sukuna’s fingers. He infiltrates the site, kills eight sentries and two operatives, and takes two fingers. The operatives’ blood accidentally forces the spirit to emerge prematurely 34 35.

Once the system confirms that the unfinished spirit still counts as Special Grade, he kills it with three Chopping Knife strikes and earns 1,000 points. He also collects cursed-energy cores for Shoko’s research 36.

Gojo warns that he cannot indefinitely shield Yang Jian from the investigation. Yang Jian responds by concealing two fingers in the fifth layer of his Ghost Domain and later removing the laboratory’s tracked entrance gate without touching its surveillance measures 37 38 40.

Kusumoto’s Facilities

Yang Jian uses the Shibuya laboratory’s budget records to trace payments through shell companies. Shiu Kong identifies suspicious facilities in Ichikawa and Sagamihara, linking the investigation to Councilor Kusumoto 41 42.

After reconnaissance at Sagamihara, Yang Jian invites Geto to accompany him to Ichikawa, promising to spare its guards while dealing with the specimens. The site is cleared, though cameras may have captured a brief flash of red light 43 44 46.

He delays his return to Sagamihara to avoid making the connection between the raids obvious. At 2:47 a.m., he infiltrates the facility, erases four hours of the guards’ memories, retrieves two Sukuna fingers, and destroys a dividing biological specimen. He leaves the guards unharmed and judges Kusumoto’s resources largely eliminated 48 50.

Appearance

Yang Jian has cool, sharp features and a face closely resembling Yang Jian from Mysterious Revival. Without visible supernatural manifestations, he can pass for an ordinary young man 3 12.

  • Clothing: Wears casual clothes, including a dark gray long-sleeved shirt, black trousers, and a black jacket; later conceals the Chopping Knife beneath his coat 1 5 28 42.
  • Ghost Eyes: Scarlet, pupil-less eyes manifest through openings in his flesh, including his forehead, right hand, and chest 1 11.
  • Ghost Shadow: Can rise from the floor as a pitch-black, faceless humanoid with elongated limbs 11 27 32.
  • Ghost Hand manifestation: Temporarily gives his hand corpse-pale skin, gray-purple nails, and abnormally bent joints 8.

Personality

Yang Jian is pragmatic, secretive, and strongly protective of his autonomy. During his powerless early days, he survives through negotiation, selective honesty, and a convincing cover story. Once stronger, he rejects Headquarters’ authority and values system points and operational freedom more than titles, salary, or recognition 2 3 23 27.

His cold composure is partly supernatural: Ghost Eye and Ghost Hand suppress fear and other human emotions. Nevertheless, he retains a dry sense of humor, participates in the group’s teasing, and continues to experience fatigue and pain 1 8 21.

He is capable of extreme violence, including massacring bounty hunters and killing Headquarters personnel, but does not kill indiscriminately in every operation. He releases the first inspectors who attack him and later spares the Sagamihara guards. His decisions depend on usefulness, risk, and his own judgment rather than institutional rules 23 33 35 50.

His advice to Geto rejects the need for a single grand justification for protecting others. He advocates choosing whom to help, opposing what one finds intolerable, and avoiding the burden of seeing oneself as a savior. His knowledge of Geto’s possible future makes these conversations a deliberate attempt to influence that fate 27 42.

Abilities & Skills

God-Level Experience Card System

The system supplies temporary templates, supernatural items, a points shop, and rewards tied to kills, ghost containment, incursions, and story milestones 1 4 17.

  • Temporary powers: The first Ghost Eye card lasts ten minutes, followed by a lengthy cooldown; early draws are available at twenty-four-hour intervals 1 2 4.
  • Permanent acquisitions: Points purchase lasting ghost abilities, upgrades, and equipment 9 11 18 21.
  • Reward scaling: Routine curse hunting earns much less than major story deviations or resolved incursions; saving Riko’s mission outcome earns 500,000 points 17 37.
  • Restrictions: His first hospital kill earns no points because system initialization was incomplete. The system also refuses to accept Sukuna’s fingers 4 36.

Ghost Eye and Ghost Domain

Ghost Eye generates an eerie red domain that operates outside the cursed-energy framework. It reveals supernatural entities and traces that even Gojo’s Six Eyes cannot reliably perceive 1 9 10.

  • Suppression: Immobilizes cursed spirits, dissolves weaker curses, and neutralizes cursed-energy attacks 23 25 29 32.
  • Domain intrusion: Overrides a ghost domain at the Third Hospital and breaks the Funabashi curse’s innate domain 10 25.
  • Spatial control: Enables aerial movement, passage through walls, rapid travel, and repositioning within the domain 13 29 30 36.
  • Environmental manipulation: Suspends falling debris and reduces it to powder 36.
  • Sensory disruption: Makes Toji’s sight, hearing, touch, smell, and intuition unreliable within its area 16.
Domain Layer Documented Function Limitation / Context
Three layers Reveals hidden ghosts and restrains powerful cursed spirits 10 29 30. The permanent early-stage Ghost Eye initially supports three layers without a price 9.
Fifth layer Conceals Sukuna’s fingers from Headquarters and the Six Eyes; removes a tracked steel gate without cursed-energy residue; captures scattered specimen tissue 38 40 50. Higher-layer use depends on the balance maintained with Ghost Shadow 27.
Seven layers Can reset Yang Jian’s own state, providing an emergency safeguard 21. Cannot be maintained for long. Using more than five layers still risks Ghost Eye awakening 21.

Ghost Shadow

Ghost Shadow replaces Yang Jian’s ordinary shadow and functions as a weapon, scout, bodily support system, and alternative vessel for his consciousness 11 18 46.

  • Physical combat: Grasps, immobilizes, dismembers, and destroys cursed spirits or hostile sorcerers 23 29 30.
  • Bodily functions: Supports bodily invasion, limb splicing, and self-repair 11.
  • Supernatural suppression: Its initial cost-free suppression applies to beings below Class A; it also isolates Yang Jian from a Sukuna finger’s influence 11 30.
  • Memory control: Reads and seizes memories; after fusion with Ghost Newspaper, erases real experiences and implants false accounts 11 18 33 50.
  • Consciousness transfer: Ghost Spirit Tablet fusion allows him to move his consciousness freely between body and shadow 18.
  • Stealth reconnaissance: Gives off no heat and does not trigger alarms designed to detect cursed energy 43.
  • Limits: Consciousness transfer does not initially remove mental exhaustion or the experience of pain 21.

Deceiving Ghost Necklace

The necklace creates solid matter containing no gold, including human bodies. Yang Jian uses it to replace his body with one whose physiological parameters match normal human standards 18 24 27.

  • Body fabrication: Produces a convincing human body, but does not preserve incidental details such as old scars and calluses 24.
  • Potential imitation: Combined with implanted memories, Yang Jian considers it theoretically capable of creating an outwardly convincing replica of a dead person; genuine resurrection is not demonstrated 18.
  • Material restriction: Cannot create gold, leaving him dependent on outside supplies for ghost-containment equipment 18 27.

Ghost Containment and Tactical Preparation

Yang Jian handles ghosts through their supernatural rules rather than assuming conventional jujutsu will work against them 8 10 20.

  • Gold isolation: Builds sealed gold containers that isolate supernatural forces; gold body bags can also shelter living people 10.
  • Luring and restraint: Combines ghost candles, straw rope, Ghost Eye, and gold containers into a controlled capture sequence 10.
  • Dismemberment: Breaks apart a ghost’s body to weaken its supernatural structure before containment 18 20.
  • Intelligence gathering: Uses brokers, financial records, surveillance images, and altered memories to locate targets and conceal his operations 28 33 41 42.
  • Foreknowledge: Recognizes future events and figures from having read the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and novels before transmigrating, but limits disclosure to protect his origins 4.

Supernatural Physiology and Risks

Ghost power progressively changes Yang Jian’s body rather than behaving like ordinary cursed energy 6 22.

  • Early changes: Low body temperature, slow heartbeat, and localized cold patches appear after Ghost Eye use 4 6 12.
  • Abnormal blood: Samples continue multiplying outside his body and later consume cursed energy from a Grade 2 spirit 22 33.
  • Replacement does not erase evidence: His new body tests normally, but preserved blood from the former body remains active 24 38.
  • Reduced rest requirement: Once Ghost Shadow becomes his primary vessel, two or three hours of sleep suffice; sometimes he rests without sleeping 46.
  • Awakening risk: Ghost Shadow helps suppress Ghost Eye’s revival, but repeated higher-level domain use destabilizes that balance 21 27.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Rusty Cleaver / Chopping Knife — A roughly fifty-centimeter paranormal blade purchased for 200,000 points. Its cuts disrupt supernatural structure rather than depending on physical force, preventing the Shibuya special grade from regenerating 18 36.
  • Pure-gold containment equipment — Includes improvised boxes, body bags, and a coffin sized for a curled-up adult. His initial arsenal uses gold supplied by Gojo 8 10 11.
  • Red Ghost Candle — Repels ghosts and assists with locating supernatural threats 10.
  • White Ghost Candle — Attracts ghosts; used to lure the Gray Ghost into a prepared restraint 10.
  • Straw Rope Circle — Temporarily restricts a ghost’s movement 10.
  • Substitute Doll — A system-provided item carried among his preparations for the Star Plasma Vessel mission; its use is not documented in the supplied material 11.
  • Ghost Newspaper — Purchased for 150,000 points and fused into Ghost Shadow to grant memory alteration 18.
  • Ghost Spirit Tablet — Purchased for 100,000 points and fused into Ghost Shadow to enable consciousness transfer 18.
  • Deceiving Ghost Necklace — Purchased for 100,000 points; creates non-gold matter and replacement bodies 18 24.
  • Sukuna’s fingers — Acquires one in Shinjuku, two beneath Shibuya, and two at Sagamihara. Suppresses or conceals them with Ghost Shadow and Ghost Domain, viewing them as future bargaining assets 30 36 38 50.
  • Flip phone — Used for encrypted intelligence exchanges, photographs, and coordination with Shiu Kong 34 39 43.

Relationships

  • Satoru Gojo — Initially a suspicious examiner, later a friend, financier, and political protector. Supplies gold and money, secures Yang Jian’s institutional freedom, and helps conceal his operations, while warning that this protection has limits 1 9 24 27 28 37 40.
  • Suguru Geto — Ally and frequent confidant. Helps establish underground contacts, conceals Yang Jian’s role in Shibuya, and joins the Ichikawa operation. Yang Jian uses blunt, practical counsel to challenge his deteriorating convictions 27 42 44 48.
  • Shoko Ieiri — Doctor and research partner. Monitors his changing biology, hides sensitive findings from Headquarters, and accepts supernatural research materials without demanding their origins 6 22 24 33 38.
  • Masamichi Yaga — Grants Yang Jian accommodation and special-collaborator status in return for confidentiality and research cooperation 3.
  • Riko Amanai — Protected charge. Yang Jian rescues her and refuses to surrender her to Toji; she later thanks him after choosing not to assimilate with Tengen 13 16 17 18.
  • Toji Fushiguro — Assassin turned transactional partner. Yang Jian redirects him against the Time Vessel Association and later pays for a route to Shiu Kong 16 17 28.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — A child whose future Yang Jian encourages Gojo to consider seriously. Reassures him that Ghost Wall is contained and offers him a cola 17 20 22.
  • Shiu Kong — Paid intelligence broker. Supplies curse locations, surveillance warnings, financial trails, and information on Kusumoto’s personnel 28 30 41 48 50.
  • Crow — Headquarters observer converted into a covert asset through erased memories and implanted obedience 33.
  • Jujutsu Headquarters — Hostile institution that attempts to investigate, test, monitor, and suppress him. Yang Jian counters with intimidation, false reports, evidence removal, and raids on its hidden facilities 23 27 32 33 40 50.
  • Councilor Kusumoto — Target of Yang Jian’s investigation into covert laboratories and diverted funding 39 41 44 50.
