Background
The sect is an ancient inheritance of the Phoenix Heaven Great Emperor. At its height, it produced Dao-Treading Supremes and Supreme Ancient Emperors, and it retains a foundation built on complete Great Dao-level scriptures and an Emperor Weapon. 225 313
Its heritage is closely tied to the True Phoenix. The Phoenix Heaven Great Emperor was said to have been born bathed in phoenix blood, while the sect’s Phoenix Heaven Divine Body traces its origin to an ancient empress associated with a True Phoenix. 449 504
The sect’s dormant foundations include Old Ancestors and Grand Elders at or above the Hegemon level; some sealed themselves away for hundreds of thousands of years so they could protect the sect in a future crisis. A Sage-realm Grand Elder was awakened when the reappearance of the Nine Heavens threatened upheaval. 485
Organization
- Sect Master — Nangong Yi presides over the sect. He was a top Hegemon before entering seclusion to pursue the Saint Realm. 225 485 509
- Grand Elders and Old Ancestors — High-ranking protectors of the sect’s foundation, including Ancient Sages who slumber in its forbidden land. 329 485
- Great Powers and Venerable Elders — Senior cultivators who train disciples and defend the Dao Lineage. Venerable Chi Yuan is one such elder and Jiang Yi’s master. 204 414
- True Disciples — Elite disciples eligible to inhabit the Nine Spirit Mountains; their blessed lands are claimed and defended through challenges. 314 315
- Saintess and Imperial Son — Nangong Yao holds the title of Saintess, while Jiang Yi is recognized as an Imperial Son with status equal to hers. 313
- Ordinary disciples and mission-takers — Disciples are required to undertake at least one mission each year for tempering and service to the sect. 329
Territory and Facilities
Phoenix Heaven City
Phoenix Heaven City is an ancient city built by the sect and serves as the location of its mountain gate. Its name and regular presence of sect disciples publicly identify it with the Phoenix Heaven Ancient Sect. 313
Nine Spirit Mountains
The Nine Spirit Mountains are blessed lands reserved for True Disciples. Each mountain has a resident, and a challenger must defeat that resident to claim the mountain; the ancient bell’s nine chimes announce a challenge to all nine peaks. 314 315
Phoenix Heaven Ancient Hall and Forbidden Land
The Phoenix Heaven Ancient Hall is the traditional residence of the current and former Sect Masters. Behind it lies a forbidden land where Ancient Sages slumber and the Phoenix Heaven Halberd is kept. 329
Pill Repository Pavilion
The Pill Repository Pavilion holds books, jade slips, ancient steles, cultivation techniques, Dao-pattern records, and handwritten notes from senior cultivators. Access depends on a disciple’s cultivation level. 329
Merit Hall
The Merit Hall distributes missions ranging from gathering treasure medicine and rare beasts to investigating dangerous regions, responding to disasters, and eliminating criminals within sect-controlled territory. 329
Medicine Garden
The Medicine Garden contains the sect’s sole Divine Medicine, the Phoenix Divine Tree. Its crimson, phoenix-shaped Nirvana Fruits mature once every 600 years. 329
Inheritances and Treasures
Phoenix Heaven Ancient Scripture
The Phoenix Heaven Ancient Scripture is the sect’s inherited Great Dao-level scripture and is described as among the strongest scriptures of its class. Its first five chapters correspond to the Mana, Mortal Transformation, Profound Mystery, Creation, and Melding Truth realms. 205 210
- Its central principle is the True Phoenix’s Nirvana: transformation, rebirth, and reconstruction of one’s foundation. 205 210
- The scripture can cultivate True Phoenix Dao Intent, Nirvana Fire Intent, Phoenix runes, and temporary True Phoenix transformation. 221
- Its Nirvana principles may refine a Treasure Body into a stronger Sacred Body. 205 221
- The sect gave Jiang Yi only its first five chapters initially, which were sufficient to cultivate through the Venerable realm. 205
Phoenix Heaven Halberd
The Phoenix Heaven Halberd is the sect’s Emperor Artifact and ultimate Ancient Artifact. It may be deployed only in grave danger or with a Sage’s approval, allowing its deity to awaken and release Emperor Dao divine might. 329
- Emperor Weapons are treated as the central deterrent enabling top Dao Lineages to endure through the ages. 329
- During Shen Tu Shi’s challenge, the sect’s ultimate Ancient Artifact annihilated a Quasi-Dao Artifact’s divine might and destroyed its Sage wielder. 494
Phoenix Heaven Divine Body
The Phoenix Heaven Divine Body is the sect’s inherited special physique, borne by its Saintess Nangong Yao. It is associated with the True Phoenix and is said to appear only once every several hundred thousand years. 449 505
- Ancient accounts link the physique to an empress who bathed in the blood of a True Phoenix capable of battling Immortals and Gods. 449
- Nangong Yao’s body resonated with an ancient phoenix legacy in Phoenix Fall Valley and absorbed phoenix treasure blood, raising her to the Great Power realm. 449 450
Relationships
- Nangong Yi — Current Sect Master; governs the Dao Lineage and later attempts to enter the Saint Realm. 413 509
- Venerable Chi Yuan — Senior elder, Great Power, and Jiang Yi’s master; recruited Jiang Yi on Nangong Yao’s request and later defended him against hostile Great Powers. 204 205 417
- Jiang Yi — Chi Yuan’s disciple and the sect’s Imperial Son. He returned to the sect after completing Chi Yuan’s three-month condition and became the foremost True Disciple after defeating all nine challengers. 205 313 320
- Nangong Yao — Sect Saintess and bearer of the Phoenix Heaven Divine Body; she first urged Chi Yuan to recruit Jiang Yi and later guided Jiang Yi through the sect. 204 313 329
- Sky Fire Pavilion — A declining Sage Dao power tied to the sect through a former Phoenix Heaven disciple; the sect previously pursued a heretic who destroyed one of its cities. 361
- Hundred Sages Academy — Upper Realm Immortal Dao faction that offered the sect’s disciples an opportunity to undergo assessment and enter its academy. 504 505
- Crimson Flame Immortal Sect — Upper Realm fire-path faction that reportedly refused to recruit disciples from the Phoenix Heaven Ancient Sect. 504
Major Arcs
Jiang Yi’s Recruitment
Venerable Chi Yuan found Jiang Yi shortly after his arrival in the Upper Realm, invited him to join the sect, and offered the first five chapters of the Phoenix Heaven Ancient Scripture. Jiang Yi was required to reach the sect within three months to become Chi Yuan’s disciple. 204 205
Recognition of the Imperial Son
After Jiang Yi destroyed the Three Great Blessed Lands, rumors identified him as a Phoenix Heaven successor with a possible Chaos Body. Sect Master Nangong Yi publicly confirmed that Jiang Yi was Chi Yuan’s disciple, ending internal doubts over his identity. 312 313
Jiang Yi arrived at Phoenix Heaven City, was received by the disciples, and was recognized as an Imperial Son whose rank equaled the Saintess’s. 313
Nine Spirit Mountains Challenge
Chi Yuan brought Jiang Yi to the Nine Spirit Mountains, where he challenged the resident True Disciples for a blessed land. Jiang Yi defeated all nine, including Nangong Yao, and was acknowledged as the senior brother and strongest of the sect’s younger generation. 314 320
Protection of Jiang Yi
When Great Powers from the White Tiger Clan, Sword Emperor City, and Azure Emperor Ancient Dynasty confronted Chi Yuan over Jiang Yi’s actions, Chi Yuan faced them without yielding. 417
The sect later activated formations to contain the aura from Jiang Yi’s Great Power tribulation, preventing the disturbance from spreading beyond its territory. 423
Shen Tu Shi’s Challenge
The Upper Realm immortal seed Shen Tu Shi arrived to challenge the sect while Nangong Yi was in seclusion. Old Chi entered the Dao Platform to defend the sect’s honor but was overpowered until Jiang Yi intervened. 491 492
When Shen Tu Shi’s attendant attempted to kill Jiang Yi with a Quasi-Dao Artifact, the sect’s ultimate Ancient Artifact intervened, forcing Shen Tu Shi’s group to flee. 494
Pressure from the Upper Realm
Following Jiang Yi’s conflicts with Upper Realm forces, hostile factions monitored the sect and placed a bounty on him. The Phoenix Heaven Ancient Sect refused to surrender him, relying on its Emperor Weapon as a deterrent even at the risk of a world-shaking war. 503 504
To secure future support beyond the Lower Realm, the sect’s leadership resolved to send outstanding disciples to Upper Realm Immortal Dao factions for assessment. Nangong Yao was selected to represent the sect at the Hundred Sages Academy. 504 505
