The day of the Goodwill Event.
The Kyoto Sister School Goodwill Event was held at whichever school had won last time. Tokyo Jujutsu High had won the previous event, so it was hosting this time.
At the foot of the mountain below Tokyo Jujutsu High, Niji, Shoko, Geto, Gojo, Yaga, Nanami, and Haibara had all gathered.
"Sakurada, why do you need us two first-years to take part in the Goodwill Event? You already completely outclass them, don't you?" Kento Nanami couldn't understand it. Kyoto Jujutsu High was desperately short on talent this year. Among the clan-affiliated students, only Naoya Zenin was worth mentioning, and the Kamo Clan hadn't produced a Blood Manipulation user either.
"This is a great chance to train. Besides, you need to stand out at the Goodwill Event for Kyoto's Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers to recognize your abilities. When you're ready for promotion to Grade 1, you'll need recommendations from them," Sakurada explained to Kento Nanami.
"Understood." Kento Nanami nodded. He was already prepared to give it everything he had. After all, Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers earned more, which would let him retire sooner.
"Well~ Miss Mei can still be bought off, but Utahime's only a Semi-Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer right now, so she doesn't qualify~ You'll have to earn everyone else's recognition yourselves~" Satoru Gojo had completely forgotten that all three of them had been promoted through recommendations from the Gojo Clan's Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers.
Although their strength had already fully met the standards of Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerers back then, those old fossils had played dumb and stubbornly refused to promote them. Of course, things were completely different now. With three Special Grades at Tokyo Jujutsu High, the old fossils no longer dared abuse their authority.
"Sakurada! How are we going to train?" Yu Haibara looked delighted. He had always been particularly enthusiastic about training.
"I originally wanted to find you a Blood Manipulation user to fight, but the Kamo Clan doesn't have any currently enrolled. There's nothing we can do about that, so you'll just have to exchange combat experience with them."
Sakurada Niji thought it was a shame too. Yu Haibara's Blood Burning Cursed Technique was very similar to Blood Manipulation, and the Kamo Clan's Flowing Red Scale should have been able to improve his strength considerably.
Asking them for it outright probably wouldn't work. They're such a stubborn old clan, and Kenjaku has them under his control too.
"Oh... got it!" Though Yu Haibara was a little discouraged, his fighting spirit flared right back up.
"Well~ Leave it to me, Haibara~!" Satoru Gojo confidently promised. It was hard to imagine how he planned to get hold of the instructions for using Blood Manipulation.
"Gojo! You're so dependable!" Yu Haibara gazed admiringly at Satoru Gojo, whose nose was practically pointing at the sky.
"Hahaha~ Keep going~ Keep going~" Satoru Gojo couldn't contain the expression on his face.
"The Gojo Clan already has records of the Kamo Clan's cursed technique. The three great clans have been fighting for so many years that they've always studied one another." Suguru Geto calmly revealed how Satoru Gojo would obtain the methods behind Blood Manipulation.
"Haha~ I definitely didn't forget~ I was saving it as a surprise~" Satoru Gojo explained with an awkward laugh.
Several people suddenly approached from a short distance away. They were clearly the students from Kyoto.
Leading them was Yoshinobu Gakuganji, with a guitar case strapped to his back. Behind him was Utahime Iori in a red-and-white shrine maiden outfit. Farther back, a blond man led the students, wearing an arrogant expression and earrings. He was none other than Naoya Zenin. Sakurada Niji had never seen the students behind him; one look told him they were nobodies who had never appeared in the story.
"Principal Gakuganji~! Nothing's bothering you, is it~? You're not exactly young anymore~" With his hands in his pockets, Satoru Gojo sauntered over to Yoshinobu Gakuganji. He bent his 190-centimeter frame forward, his shadow completely engulfing the slightly stooped old man, and feigned concern for him.
"Oh dear~ Sorry for the trouble. Having to come all this way at your age." Suguru Geto quickly followed, copying Satoru Gojo as he bent down in front of Yoshinobu Gakuganji and addressed the elderly man with a somewhat earnest expression.
Both of them loathed old-fashioned conservatives like Yoshinobu Gakuganji. Every time they saw him, they deliberately went over to rile up the man in his sixties.
"You two little brats-" Yoshinobu Gakuganji's eyes widened in anger. His bark-like, wrinkled face immediately fell, and his long eyebrows trembled with rage. He had clearly caught the mockery in Satoru Gojo's and Suguru Geto's words.
Sakurada Niji had no particular feelings about the old man. Ignoring him, he looked at Naoya Zenin opposite him.
Toji's fanboy, huh... A nasty piece of work who can't stand anyone being better than him. He was overjoyed when his dad, Naobito Zenin, died, and he has absolutely no respect for women. A complete scumbag...
Still, he does have some talent. I wonder if Toji could straighten him out.
Noticing someone studying him, Naoya Zenin immediately narrowed his eyes. He lifted his head and looked down his nose at Sakurada Niji with contempt.
Sakurada Niji smiled casually and stopped looking at him, turning his attention to the others behind him instead.
Nothing special. None of them ever showed their faces in the story.
"Utahime~ How have you been~?" Shoko greeted Utahime.
"Shoko~" The moment Utahime saw Shoko, she ran over and hugged her.
"Shoko~ I want a hug~" Satoru Gojo turned around too, pretending he wanted to hug Shoko.
"Utahime's so old already~ And she's still asking her juniors for hugs~" Satoru Gojo looked scornfully at Utahime, who was nestled in Shoko's arms.
"Well~ Satoru, Utahime's mental age is pretty low~ It's understandable~" Geto said, his eyes narrowed.
"Scumbags really do stay scumbags." Utahime rolled her eyes at Satoru Gojo, then stopped paying him any attention and pulled Shoko over to a corner of the group.
"All right, Principal Gakuganji. Let's discuss the format for this year's matches," Masamichi Yaga said to Yoshinobu Gakuganji.
"Whatever you like. You'll win anyway." Yoshinobu Gakuganji had no real hope of winning. He had only brought his students here to exchange experience.
"Kyoto's students may choose any one of our students to challenge in an arena match. The winner stays to await further challenges until they lose."
"How does that sound?" Masamichi Yaga asked.
"Fine." Yoshinobu Gakuganji didn't want to make things too complicated either. They couldn't win anyway.
"Then let's head up," Masamichi Yaga said.
The Training Ground.
The Kyoto and Tokyo students stood on opposite sides of the Training Ground. Naoya Zenin ignored his fellow students and immediately began choosing his opponent.
Naoya Zenin carefully scrutinized the people opposite him before finally looking at Sakurada Niji beside Suguru Geto. He disdained crushing the weak, but he didn't want to be crushed himself either, so he settled for Sakurada Niji.
After all, Sakurada Niji had only recently revealed his strength, and he had rarely taken missions before that. Suguru Geto, who had taken on enough missions for two people, was feared throughout Jujutsu Society. Satoru Gojo went without saying; from childhood to the present, he had practically been the shadow hanging over Naoya Zenin's entire life.
Sakurada Niji and Naoya Zenin stepped forward while everyone else retreated to the edges of the Training Ground.
"I didn't expect you to choose me." Sakurada Niji genuinely hadn't expected it. The Zenin Clan's Projection Sorcery was powerful, but using it against him was nothing short of suicide.
Has this guy not looked up anything about me?
"Because you're the weakest of the three Special Grades~" Wearing an arrogant expression, Naoya Zenin explained why he had chosen Sakurada Niji.
"Is that so? Then I look forward to learning from you." Sakurada Niji clenched his fists, not intending to use his cursed technique right away. Most of the cursed spirits he encountered were huge, so he hadn't fought in close quarters for a long time.
Even though I'm supposed to be a jujutsu sorcerer who specializes in fighting people.
"Begin!"
At Masamichi Yaga's signal, Naoya Zenin vanished from where he stood.
His cursed technique was "Projection Sorcery." When activated, moving objects within the user's field of vision slowed down, breaking each second into twenty-four frames and tracing a set movement path. Anything touched by his palm that failed to follow its predetermined path would be frozen for one second.
He could also plan his own movements in advance, setting twenty-four frames of fluid motion that obeyed the laws of physics within a single second. Once the sequence was set, he would move rapidly along it. During that process, he had to replicate his preset movements. If he failed to complete them or was obstructed while moving, he would be frozen for one second.
