Power Progression

Grade comparisons below describe cursed-energy reserves or demonstrated capability, not a documented official sorcerer promotion.

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Newly awakened sorcerer 1 Arrives in the Heian Era with Cursed Spirit Manipulation, improved physical fitness, and the ability to sense cursed energy, but little practical experience.
First subdued spirit; first Black Flash 2 3 Automatically absorbs a defeated Grade 2 spirit and heals his severe chest wounds. Demonstrates Black Flash and learns that he can summon absorbed spirits without consuming cursed-spirit orbs.
Grade 4 reserves; near-Grade 1 bodily reinforcement 7 Shinji assesses his reserves as Grade 4, but his exceptionally precise cursed-energy control allows reinforcement approaching Grade 1 performance.
Grade 3 reserves; bond with Banquet of Fated Remnants 9 10 11 Wins the spirit’s trust, names it, and absorbs its energy. His reserves rise to the Grade 3 average; Banquet gains Light Returns at Dusk and is subsequently listed as Grade 1. Jianxia gains limited access to its technique.
Hollow Wicker Basket mastered 11 Learns the anti-domain barrier technique from Shinji within five days. Can reliably defeat Megumi in sparring, exorcise Grade 2 spirits, and potentially challenge Grade 1 spirits.
First Special Grade spirit subdued 20 Defeats and absorbs the Long, Thin Cursed Spirit by using Light Returns at Dusk to counter its constructions. The victory earns a one-time system reward; Jianxia acknowledges that the matchup was unusually favorable.
Six additional low-grade spirits absorbed 23 Absorbs six Grade 3 and Grade 4 spirits brought back by Megumi and Uraume. Their energy helps him recover, but they do not qualify for the system’s romance objective.
Inventory spirit identified 26 34 Discovers a caterpillar-like spirit’s storage ability and names it Fat Worm. The system later lists it as Grade 3.
Nearly Grade 2 reserves; Clumsy House acquired 32 Completing Hiraizumi’s first construction phase wins House-Maker’s affection. Jianxia’s reserves rise from roughly Grade 3 to nearly Grade 2, and he gains the ability to use its building technique himself.

Background / History

Transmigration and the Zenin Household

Before transmigrating, Jianxia was a Jujutsu Kaisen fan whose online jokes centered on cursed spirits and Kenjaku. His phone transports him to the Heian Era, approximately a thousand years before the Culling Game, and becomes the interface for a system that assigns those jokes as compulsory objectives 1.

Following the system’s directions, he encounters Megumi Zenin just as she is preparing to summon Mahoraga against a Grade 2 curse. The encounter leaves him severely wounded by Divine Dog: Totality, but his automatic curse absorption heals him. His subsequent Black Flash convinces Megumi that he is an accomplished senior testing her abilities 1 2.

Jianxia accepts Megumi’s invitation to the Zenin Estate because he needs lodging and wants to grow stronger away from Heian-kyo. Shinji welcomes him as an honored guest after hearing about his apparent healing ability. Jianxia explicitly denies knowing Reverse Cursed Technique, but Megumi interprets the denial as indirect instruction rather than a correction 4 5.

A sparring match with Megumi becomes his first successful attempt to bond with a captured curse. Entering the spirit’s inner world, he discovers that it embodies regret over the ending of joyful festivals. He names it Banquet of Fated Remnants, gains increased reserves, and uses its newly awakened restorative technique to save Megumi after their clash badly burns her 7 8 9 10.

Uraume and the Founding of Auspicious

A system reward directs Jianxia ten kilometers north at dawn, five days later. He and Megumi discover Uraume amid a frozen ruin, where the child’s uncontrolled technique has killed several people. Uraume calls himself a curse and asks to be killed, but Jianxia’s words give him a reason to live. Uraume subsequently chooses to follow Jianxia rather than join a clan 11 12 13 14.

With rival Zenin branches seeking Fujiwara support, Shinji asks Jianxia to lead Auspicious as an equal partner to the clan head. His deeper purpose is to prevent the Zenin Clan from embracing the belief that non-sorcerers are not human. Jianxia accepts and makes a binding vow to protect the clan only while it remains worthy of protection, promising to kill anyone—including Shinji—who turns it into a monster 14 15.

First Special Grade Capture

While hunting at night, Jianxia follows the system to a house that conceals all cursed-energy traces. Breaking its enormous wooden body reveals the Long, Thin Cursed Spirit, a genuine Special Grade opponent whose Clumsy House technique turns buildings and scattered debris into weapons 16 17 18 19.

Jianxia and Banquet secretly restore the enemy’s debris to harmless states, then convert its constructed defenses back into cursed energy. A combined energy cannon and reinforced flying kick defeat the spirit, allowing Jianxia to absorb it. He later tells Shinji that his technique countered the opponent particularly well and that the fight could otherwise have ended badly 20 22.

Reform and Hiraizumi’s Expansion

During Tengen’s visit, Jianxia questions a barrier plan that depends entirely on her continued existence. His intervention helps redirect the project toward a worldwide sorcerer network rather than concentrating cursed energy in Japan. He accepts that changing history may undermine his foreknowledge, judging the potential benefit more important than preserving that advantage 24 25 26.

When Zenin Wu Yan mistakes him for Sukuna, Jianxia exploits the error to obtain Evening Mist and learn about the opposing Zenin faction. He and Shinji then stage a conversation that pressures Wu Yan into a binding vow of service to their side 27 28.

Jianxia proposes turning Hiraizumi into a city to rival Heian-kyo, initially seeing population growth as a way to secure more cursed spirits. Using the captured Special Grade’s construction technique, he builds furnished homes while Shinji recruits settlers and artisans. The displaced residents’ gratitude prompts Jianxia to promise them lasting shelter. Hiraizumi’s population passes a thousand, and he adds a sewer system beneath its streets 29 30 31.

Finishing the first construction phase wins over the Special Grade spirit, now called House-Maker, which was born from fear of displacement. Jianxia gains access to Clumsy House himself and insists that his spirits are cherished friends rather than tools 32.

Duel with Gojo Gen

Jianxia challenges Gojo Gen after the Gojo clan head belittles Megumi’s efforts and calls the Zenin Clan the weakest of Tengen’s allies. Recognized as the Zenin faction’s strongest sorcerer, Jianxia enters a supervised duel whose rules prohibit killing or permanent injury 33 34.

Rather than contest Gen’s superior power directly, Jianxia combines cursed-energy concealment, Evening Mist’s sure-hit effect, and sewage attacks intended to exhaust Limitless. When Gen expands Void Sea of Consciousness, Jianxia delays him with Hollow Wicker Basket, evades automatic targeting through Clumsy House armor, and has an outside spirit break the domain’s shell. Gen’s domain collapses, leaving him in cursed technique burnout, and his earlier contempt gives way to explicit respect 35 36 37 38.

Clan Relocation and the Izu Expedition

Jianxia rebuilds the Zenin Estate into a five-story residence with reception rooms, living quarters, bathing facilities, and sewer-connected toilets. He uses Gojo Gen’s interest in the renovation—and an earlier promise to grant a request—to invite the Gojo Clan to Hiraizumi, extending the same offer to the Kamo Clan. Both clan heads accept 41 42.

He then visits Tengen to investigate the Great Barrier’s operation. After an attempt to inspect Sukuna’s activity overwhelms him, he obtains a more manageable lead: a Special Grade spirit in Kawazu Township, Kamo District, Izu Province. He decides to investigate and later sets out with two companions, including Uraume 42 44.

Personality

Jianxia is irreverent, theatrical, and outspoken about preferring “overpowered” abilities. He uses fandom references, exaggerated declarations, and crude jokes even during dangerous encounters. His confidence does not eliminate caution: he initially avoids the capital, considers withdrawing from an uncertain nighttime fight, and admits that defeating one Special Grade does not mean he can defeat most others 1 4 11 16 20.

His attraction to cursed spirits develops into genuine concern for their feelings and dignity. He argues that actions matter more than appearance, comforts Banquet’s lingering regret, and rejects the system’s implication that weak curses are unworthy of affection. He also rebukes Michisada for calling his companions tools 3 9 23 32.

His compassion has firm limits rather than unconditional loyalty. He reassures Uraume, houses displaced people, and refuses to use forbidden knowledge that would require human experimentation. Conversely, he is willing to intimidate Wu Yan, exploit mistaken identity, and forcibly bind an opponent’s envoy into service 15 27 28 29 30 34.

Abilities & Skills

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Jianxia’s innate technique subdues, stores, summons, and controls cursed spirits. His version absorbs them directly through his hand rather than requiring him to swallow cursed-spirit orbs 2 3.

  • Storage and deployment: Summons captured spirits from a black substance and coordinates their attacks alongside his own 3 7 8.
  • Enhancement: Reinforces controlled spirits; revealing Cursed Spirit Manipulation improves their strength, energy efficiency, and his ability to subjugate an injured target 7 19.
  • Bond-based growth: Winning a qualifying spirit’s affection increases his reserves and grants limited access to its technique 9 10 23 32.
  • Resurrection: Can revive a destroyed subdued spirit by supplying cursed energy. Stronger spirits cost more; at his documented capacity, he can revive only one Grade 2 spirit per day 39.
  • Capture-related healing: His first absorption automatically repairs severe wounds. This is not Reverse Cursed Technique, which he states he does not know 2 5.

Cursed-Energy Control and Close Combat

His exceptional control compensates for comparatively small reserves. Shinji considers his bodily reinforcement nearly Grade 1 despite his Grade 4 reserves, while judging his early martial technique to be little more than unstructured punching 7.

  • Applies precisely measured energy with almost no waste 7.
  • Pressures summoners at close range to interrupt hand signs and prevent additional shikigami deployment 7.
  • Learns jujutsu theory unusually quickly and adapts it during repeated sparring sessions 11.
  • Can immediately use ownerless cursed energy recovered from enemy constructions, but cannot store that recovered energy within himself 20.

Black Flash

Jianxia lands Black Flash shortly after awakening and repeatedly uses it against the house spirit’s constructions 2 17 19.

  • His first documented Black Flash produces heightened clarity and restores missing memories 2 3.
  • Hoping for a Black Flash appears to greatly increase his chances of producing one 17.
  • The narration still states that sorcerers cannot deliberately guarantee Black Flash; his unusual success is presented as though something is assisting him, not as confirmed on-demand control 2 17.

Light Returns at Dusk

Originally awakened by Banquet of Fated Remnants, this technique restores a touched target to an earlier state. Jianxia can use it to a limited extent through their bond 9 10.

  • Restoration: Repairs damaged objects and, with Banquet’s help, heals sorcerers and cursed spirits 9 10 18 19.
  • Target restriction: Jianxia’s initial independent use is limited to objects without cursed energy or with only trace residue. Banquet can affect cursed-energy-bearing targets 10.
  • Energy cost: Consumption increases with the target’s cursed energy and the extent of reversal. Completely restoring Megumi initially exhausts Jianxia’s reserves 10.
  • Self-resetting: Restores his injuries and previous cursed-energy state, making attrition unusually ineffective against his low-reserve body 11.
  • Restraint: Repeatedly returns a target to the instant before completing a movement, immobilizing the house spirit’s arm 17.
  • Technique counter: Reverts constructed matter into the cursed energy used to create it, enabling attacks powered by an opponent’s own expenditure 20.
  • Limits: Does not remove pain already experienced, cure mental exhaustion, reverse aging, or guarantee survival against an immediately fatal attack 19 22.

Clumsy House

Jianxia gains personal access to House-Maker’s technique after winning its affection. It manipulates buildings and creates new structures whose interiors conceal cursed energy 19 32.

  • Reshapes available timber into finished, furnished buildings; using existing materials is much more efficient than creating them from nothing 29 30.
  • Supports large-scale housing, walls, sewer infrastructure, and the redesigned Zenin Estate 31 32 41.
  • Produces finely articulated armor that hides Jianxia’s cursed-energy fluctuations even from the Six Eyes 35.
  • Conceals cursed energy inside coverings, preventing Gojo Gen’s domain from automatically identifying Jianxia and Banquet as targets 38.
  • Manipulates battlefield terrain through domes, barrels, pillars, and moving wastewater 36 37 38.
  • Concealment defeats automatic targeting, not visual detection or deliberate manual attacks 38.

Hollow Wicker Basket

An anti-domain barrier technique learned from Shinji Zenin. It requires a two-handed sign and neutralizes a domain’s sure-hit effect 11.

  • Temporarily resists Void Sea of Consciousness 37.
  • Breaks when Gojo Gen increases his domain’s pressure 37.
  • Serves as a delaying tactic while Jianxia prepares other counters; he has not demonstrated a Domain Expansion of his own 37 38.

Strategy and Leadership

  • Matchup analysis: Identifies Clumsy House’s energy-concealment principle and turns its constructions into a resource for his own attacks 18 19 20.
  • Domain counterplay: Exploits an inward-reinforced domain shell’s weaker exterior by leaving a spirit outside to break it 38.
  • Political deception: Impersonates Sukuna and coordinates with Shinji to secure Wu Yan’s service 27 28.
  • Settlement planning: Combines supernatural construction with recruitment, farming, revised town planning, and sanitation 29 30 31.
  • Delegation: Entrusts Uraume’s basic training to Megumi and leaves technical barrier planning to Shinji and Tengen 15 26 33.

Cursed Spirit Companions

Spirit Documented Grade Relationship and Use
Banquet of Fated Remnants Initially Grade 2; officially listed as Grade 1 after bonding 2 11 First captured companion, born from regret over joyful festivals ending. Provides Light Returns at Dusk, coordinated combat support, and cursed-energy cannon attacks. Temporarily releases quasi-Special Grade amounts of energy during the House-Maker battle 9 20.
House-Maker Special Grade 34 Formerly called the Long, Thin Cursed Spirit. Born from fear of displacement; its Clumsy House technique enables Hiraizumi’s construction. Building homes for settlers wins its affection 20 30 32.
Fat Worm Grade 3 34 Caterpillar-like spirit that swallows and regurgitates objects, functioning as portable storage. Jianxia names it after discovering this ability 26.
Other subdued spirits Includes Grade 3 and Grade 4 23 Gathered by Megumi, Uraume, and Wu Yan. Assist with construction, concealed attacks, and estate service; some are dressed as maids 23 30 31 35 41.

Equipment / Items

  • System phone — Requires no charging, cannot be destroyed, and returns to Jianxia if moved more than ten meters away. Others automatically ignore his system-related speech and actions 1 6.
  • Chief’s charm — Wooden cursed tool bearing the character for Auspicious. Identifies him as Chief and stores cursed energy for later withdrawal; supplied by Shinji through Megumi 23.
  • Evening Mist — Blue-green Special Grade cursed sword with a sure-hit effect. Obtained from Wu Yan while impersonating Sukuna and later confirmed as his system reward for the first Special Grade capture. Its attacks bypass Gojo Gen’s Limitless 27 29 31 35 36.
  • Clumsy House armor — Full-body wooden protective structure with flexible joints and a covered scabbard. Conceals cursed energy while permitting unrestricted movement 35.
  • Death Painting Womb knowledge — Forbidden information received as a mission reward before the Gojo duel. Jianxia refuses to pursue it because it would involve human experimentation 34.

System Objectives

Objective Conditions / Progress
Participate in the Culling Game Requires reaching an event approximately a thousand years after his arrival. Jianxia considers recruitment by Kenjaku but instead plans to grow stronger and find a way to survive the intervening millennium 1 6.
Sleep with Kenjaku Rejects a route involving Kenjaku in Suguru Geto’s body and chooses to approach Kenjaku before she takes a male body. This activates “hardcore mode,” which initially supplies cosmetic interface changes rather than practical assistance 6.
Romance subdued cursed spirits Repeatable objective. Successfully completed with Banquet and House-Maker; qualifying bonds grant rewards and strengthen Jianxia. The system excludes the six weak spirits received from Megumi and Uraume 9 11 23 32.
  • Failure consequence: The system states that failing a mission will turn his soul into a Sukuna-style cursed object 6.
  • Rewards: Can include information, cursed tools, and ability improvements. One-time achievement rewards may arrive through later events rather than an immediate claim screen 6 22 31.
  • Navigation: The system offers directions to anything that exists, though Jianxia remains suspicious of its reliability 16.

Relationships

  • Megumi Zenin — First ally, host, and regular sparring partner. Initially mistakes him for an experienced mentor; later helps collect spirits and trains Uraume at his request. Jianxia defends her efforts against Gojo Gen’s insults 2 5 11 15 23 33.
  • Shinji Zenin — Host, barrier-technique instructor, and equal political partner. Entrusts him with Auspicious and works alongside him to develop Hiraizumi. Their alliance is constrained by Jianxia’s vow against the clan becoming inhumane 11 14 15 30 31.
  • Uraume — Devoted follower who credits Jianxia with restoring his will to live. Hunts spirits for him, serves as a household aide, and enthusiastically supports his tactics when other spectators recoil 14 23 29 35 36.
  • Tengen — Reform collaborator and source of barrier intelligence. Takes his criticism of her original plan seriously and rescues him from information overload while he inspects Sukuna’s activity 24 25 26 42.
  • Zenin Wu Yan — Enemy envoy manipulated into service through mistaken identity and a binding vow. Joins Auspicious and remains with Shinji’s faction even after learning Jianxia is not Sukuna 27 28 31 33.
  • Gojo Gen — Rival turned respectful prospective neighbor. Initially dismisses Jianxia and the Zenin Clan, but recognizes his tactical ability during their duel and later agrees to relocate his clan to Hiraizumi 33 38 41 42.
  • Kamo Michisada — Political ally who is unsettled by Jianxia’s affection for curses. Apologizes after calling them tools and accepts the offer of new clan grounds in Hiraizumi 31 32 42.
  • Kenjaku — Target of a compulsory system objective; Jianxia’s plans concern how and when to approach her rather than an established personal relationship 1 6.
