"First we do this, then that, and finally that!"
Xu Sanniang and Little White huddled together like two little mice, their heads touching as they whispered and muttered.
Every so often, they let out a few goofy chuckles, as though plotting some earth-shattering secret.
"Hey, what do you think that reward the commander mentioned will be?"
A lesser demon suddenly raised her head and looked expectantly at another lesser demon, blinking her big, round eyes.
"How should I know?"
The other lesser demon answered irritably.
"Maybe he just said it to keep us happy!"
The two lesser demons squatted some distance from Wolf Demon's room, chatting idly. They still had to wait quietly here until Wolf Demon finished his business.
"But if there really is a reward, that would be wonderful!"
The lesser demon rubbed her hands excitedly.
"It's been ages since I got a reward!"
"Stop daydreaming!"
The other lesser demon rolled his eyes at her.
"He told us the same thing last time, and after all this time, we haven't seen so much as a shadow of it. And the time before that..."
As he spoke, the lesser demon started counting on his fingers. "He does this every time-all talk, no rewards. I don't believe he'll keep his word this time!"
That damned Wolf Demon not only loved squeezing them dry, but also loved dangling pies in the sky!
"You've got to have dreams, right? Otherwise, what's the difference between a demon and a salted fish?" Wolf Demon said smugly.
But another demon pursed his lips dismissively and retorted:
"Have hope, just to fall into despair afterward?"
Just then, the lesser demon abruptly changed the subject, his face turning sleazy.
"Forget that. Tsk, tsk, that woman's were really huge. And the way they felt..."
Before he
