"Sorry, my name's Kabuto. You look like rookie Genin, so you probably need some information about the exam. I've taken it seven times already," Kabuto said.
"Wow, seven times? You must really suck," Kiba said.
"Maybe the exam is a lot harder than it looks," the bespectacled Genin said.
"Whatever. Akamaru and I will definitely make it to the finals. Right, little guy?" the boy from the Inuzuka Clan said. The puppy in his arms barked in agreement.
"I have information cards here, with details on every team and its members," Kabuto said.
"All right, then. Rock Lee," Sasuke said.
"Gaara of the Sand Waterfall," Naruto said.
"Naruto Uzumaki, though asking about him is a pain," Shikamaru said last.
"Oh, you already know their names. That makes things easy."
"Rock Lee, here he is. He has no talent for Ninjutsu or genjutsu because he suffers from underdeveloped chakra pathways. But his Taijutsu is extremely strong. His teammates are Neji Hyuga and Tenten, and his teacher is Might Guy. He's completed forty-two D-rank missions and thirty-five C-rank missions." Kabuto finished speaking and flipped to the next card.
"Next is Gaara of the Sand Waterfall. Surprisingly, I have very little information on him. All I know is that he's completed twelve D-rank missions, fifty-two C-rank missions, and one B-rank mission, and he's never been injured," the silver-haired ninja told the Konoha rookies.
That information shocked quite a few of the rookies. To complete so many missions without ever getting injured was truly frightening.
"Last is Naruto Uzumaki. He was the dead last at the academy, but his chakra reserves and stamina are astonishing. The only people in the village who can rival him are Jiraiya, one of the Sannin, and the Hokage himself. His genjutsu ability is zero, but his Taijutsu and Ninjutsu are far above average. He wasn't assigned to a Genin team. Instead, he became the student of Jiraiya the Toad Sage, one of the Sannin. His chakra nature is Wind Release, but information on his Ninjutsu is unknown. He's completed ten D-rank missions, twelve C-rank missions, one B-rank mission, and even one A-rank mission. Very impressive. I suggest avoiding him during the matches," the silver-haired Genin said, watching the proud look on Naruto's face and the shocked expressions around him.
"Tch, he must have relied on his teammates. How could the dead last possibly beat us?" Kiba said.
"Don't underestimate any opponent. Even the rookies from Otogakure might be difficult to handle." No sooner had Kabuto finished speaking than a Sound Ninja wearing an enormous gauntlet rushed at him. Kabuto dodged easily, but an invisible force shattered his glasses.
Hmm, he uses his gauntlet to propel air at his targets. Break the gauntlet, and he'll be useless, Naruto thought as he observed the attack.
"All right, you trash, sit down! The first exam is starting!" A tall man with a scar-covered face walked in and stood behind the lectern. "I'm Ibiki Morino, the proctor for the first exam. You have one hour to answer ten questions. The final question will be announced in the last ten minutes. If you're caught cheating, your entire team will be eliminated. However, you may use any Ninjutsu or ability to obtain the answers. Begin!"
He sat down and smiled as he watched the terrified expressions on the Genin's faces when they saw the questions.
These questions are too hard for Genin. Most Jonin probably couldn't answer them either. That means they want us to cheat... That's right, there must be someone here who already knows the answers. But how do I get them? Got it. Naruto quietly summoned a small toad and whispered his instructions, and the little toad disappeared.
Twenty minutes later, the little toad returned, handed Naruto the answers, and disappeared again. Naruto filled in his answers and quietly waited for the exam to end. At last, it was time for the final question, and the rules changed again.
So that's it. They're testing whether we have the courage to stick with a mission. Clever. Good thing the Pervy Sage gave me books on psychology to read, or I might not have figured it out either, Naruto thought with a smile.
"Blond kid, you look pretty confident. Let me tell you, if you get this question wrong, you'll never be allowed to take the exam again for the rest of your life," Ibiki said, trying to intimidate Naruto.
"That's fine, Mr. Ibiki. Not becoming a Chunin won't affect my dream. It just means I could get better missions. I'm willing to take the gamble." Naruto smiled slightly, making it clear that he had seen through the true purpose of the exam.
Damn, this kid figured it out. Never mind. No one else is likely to fall for it now, Ibiki thought before saying, "Anyone else?... All right, everyone still here... passes!"
Just as he was about to continue, a figure in black burst through the window. It was a woman with a purple ponytail, wearing an open trench coat and a see-through mesh top, apparently with no underwear underneath. The sign behind her read, "Mitaraishi Anko, sexy and single, proctor for the second exam."
