Ambush!

Three hours later.

After taking a long detour, Lin Hui finally reached his destination.

Using the map of the Zombie wilderness and the Feral Wolf Guild convoy's route, he had found the perfect spot for an ambush.

It was a canyon flanked by steep rock walls, with a road down the middle only wide enough for three vehicles abreast.

Just then.

Su Qingqian's voice came through, reporting that all preparations were complete.

Screech-

Lin Hui immediately hit the brakes.

As planned, Su Qingqian and Liu Xi got out.

Su Qingqian laid the mines!

Liu Xi found a sniper position and settled into hiding.

Su Qingqian lay prone on the road, holding a specially made mine-laying tool, her practiced movements almost too fast to follow.

"Boss, all done!"

Ten minutes later, she wiped the sweat from her forehead and pointed to several concealed spots where she had buried the mines.

"These are the main mines. I've linked them together for three times the explosive payload, enough to wreck a Lv4 heavily armored vehicle. I've also made two remote-controlled fuses. Nothing can go wrong."

"And this."

She pointed to the drone hovering overhead. Two modified high-explosive antitank mines hung beneath it.

"Just give the word, boss, and it'll be a bomber!"

"Nicely done."

Lin Hui nodded approvingly, then looked toward Liu Xi, who had already set up her sniper rifle in a crevice high among the rocks. Draped in camouflage netting, she almost blended into the rock itself.

"Liu Xi, perfect position."

Everything was ready.

Lin Hui drove the RV behind a massive boulder.

He sat in the spacious, comfortable cab, facing the central display, which was split into two views.

On the left was the drone's high-definition overhead feed.

On the right was a moving map of red dots from the radar scan.

"Ten kilometers out..."

"Five kilometers..."

"Three kilometers..."

"One kilometer..."

Lin Hui toyed with a detonator, took a can of cold cola from the onboard refrigerator, and gently pulled the tab.

"Hiss-"

The fizz sounded especially clear in the quiet cabin.

Meanwhile.

The goateed man sat in a modified Lv4 military Humvee, his expression dark as a thundercloud.

He had led the convoy across the wasteland for over three hours without finding anything.

"Damn it, where the hell did that player who stole the Lv5 Vehicle Upgrade Blueprint go?"

The goateed man tugged irritably at his beard and picked up his radio. "All vehicles, maintain your spacing! We're approaching rough terrain. Watch out for player ambushes!"

Despite his warning, he did not really believe anyone would ambush them.

They were the Feral Wolf Guild, after all. Ordinary guilds and players couldn't run fast enough when they saw the insignia on their vehicles!

Besides, he had more than a dozen fully armed, heavily armored vehicles with him. They had twenty mounted machine guns alone, plus two RPGs and a light mortar!

With that much firepower, they could do whatever they wanted in this region, as long as they didn't run into the Sky Tyrant Alliance.

Unless someone was out of their mind or looking to kill themselves, they would run as far as possible at the sight of this convoy.

"Third Brother, should we take another route? Something feels off." The driver beside the goateed man suddenly spoke up. He was rather timid.

"Drive slowly. Stay alert." The goateed man shook his head.

He had already wasted some time pursuing the player who killed Seventh Brother. Taking another road might delay the guild leader's important business.

The convoy slowly entered the canyon.

The road narrowed here, and the shadows falling over it gave the place an oppressive feel.

Overhead, an inconspicuous "bird" seemed to fly past, making a faint buzzing sound.

But no one noticed.

"Third Brother, something's wrong with the road ahead."

The lead vehicle's driver suddenly spoke over the radio. "The dirt looks freshly turned..."

The goateed man's heart lurched. Instincts honed by a life on the edge of death made his scalp prickle.

"Shit! Stop! Stop now!!"

He screamed into the radio.

But.

It was too late.

The instant the lead vehicle's driver hit the brakes and the vehicle lurched to a halt.

Sitting in his RV drinking cola, Lin Hui watched the vehicle enter the red circle on his screen and gently pressed the red button in his hand.

BOOOOM!!!

An earth-shattering blast, loud enough to rupture eardrums, tore through the canyon's silence!

It wasn't just one mine.

It was three linked antitank mines, specially "enhanced" by Su Qingqian, detonating together!

A massive fireball rose into the air, hurling the modified pickup, which weighed several tons and was fitted with thick armor, more than ten meters skyward!

The vehicle broke apart in midair, its parts raining down before the burning wreck slammed into the second vehicle behind it!

"Enemy attack!! Ambush!!"

The goateed man's ears rang. Before he could recover from the terrifying explosion.

The "bird" overhead suddenly dropped two dark objects.

They landed right between two vehicles trying to turn around and flee.

Boom! Boom!

Two more explosions erupted.

Smoke and dust billowed, and shattered stone flew everywhere.

"Over there! Up on the mountain!!"

"Return fire! Flatten that ridge!!"

The Feral Wolf Guild members were hardened outlaws, after all. After a brief panic, they immediately fought back. More than a dozen machine guns sprayed wildly toward the source of the explosions, showering the rock walls with sparks.

But just then.

Whoosh-

A bullet tore through the clouds of smoke and dust with a piercing whistle.

Bang!

The machine gunner on the second vehicle had his head burst like a watermelon. His headless body slumped into the truck bed, his finger still holding down the trigger as the machine gun spat useless streams of fire into the sky.

"Over there! Sniper!!"

Bang!

Another shot.

A Feral Wolf Guild player trying to get out and find cover was sent flying.

Liu Xi had chosen an exceptionally tricky position, a natural blind spot against return fire.

And she was like the Grim Reaper calling names.

Every gunshot took a life.

The entire convoy was trapped in the narrow canyon, unable to advance or retreat, left helpless under the barrage.

Fear began to spread through everyone's hearts.

"Damn it! Reverse! Reverse now!!"

Watching his comrades fall around him, the goateed man had no choice but to retreat, however unwilling he was!

They didn't even know where the enemy was. How were they supposed to fight?

Sitting in his RV, Lin Hui watched the panicked prey on his surveillance screen and tossed his empty cola can neatly into the trash.

Then he pressed the remote again, detonating the minefield planted behind the convoy.

Boom-

Deafening explosions echoed through the entire canyon once more.
