The smoke from the explosions gradually cleared.
The once orderly, imposing Feral Wolf Guild convoy had become a heap of twisted scrap metal and burning wreckage.
Columns of black smoke rose into the sky, and the air reeked of burning flesh and blood.
Aside from the goateed man deliberately spared and the driver who had been sitting behind the wheel, almost everyone had been wiped out.
Crunch... crunch...
Lin Hui slowly drove the RV onto the battlefield.
The sharp crunch of the forty-ton vehicle's wheels rolling over metal wreckage and bones became the final straw that shattered the survivors' nerves.
"Don't... don't kill me! I surrender!!"
The driver was already scared out of his wits. He crawled out of the overturned vehicle, knelt on the glass-strewn ground, and desperately kowtowed until his forehead bled.
The goateed man, however, still had a vicious look in his eyes despite his blood-covered face and the leg that had been blown off.
He leaned beside a tire that was still burning, gripping a large-caliber revolver as he stared fixedly at the black RV parked before him.
"You want to kill me? It won't be that easy!!"
The goateed man roared and raised his gun to fire.
Bang!
Before he could pull the trigger, a bullet pierced his wrist with pinpoint accuracy.
The gun fell to the ground.
On a rock in the distance, Liu Xi blew the smoke from her gun barrel, her expression indifferent.
Lin Hui pushed open the door, his tactical boots striking the ground with steady footsteps.
Ignoring the kowtowing driver, he walked straight up to the goateed man, planted a foot on the wound where his leg had been severed, and ground down hard.
"Aah!!!"
The goateed man screamed like a pig being slaughtered. Cold sweat instantly soaked his clothes, and his entire body curled up like a shrimp.
"Pretty tough, aren't you?"
Lin Hui crouched down and studied the face twisted in agony, his voice chillingly calm.
The goateed man endured the pain and glared at Lin Hui. "Do you know I'm with the Feral Wolf Guild? You've got the nerve to rob us!!"
"The Feral Wolf Guild?" Lin Hui chuckled. "You're exactly who I'm robbing!!"
"Go on, then."
"What's your guild's big plan?"
Through the communicator, Lin Hui had learned that members of the Feral Wolf Guild were heading toward Cauldron City, where the entire guild intended to launch a major operation.
"You even know about the big plan?" The goateed man froze, then said coldly, "You... who the hell are you? Someone from the Sky Tyrant Alliance? Or Ironblood Heavy Industries?"
Lin Hui smiled, showing a mouthful of white teeth. "Take a guess."
"Guess my ass!" The goateed man glared viciously at Lin Hui and spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva:
"Pah! You want to know? Dream on!!"
"I know your kind all too well. You're not going to let me go. If you've got me, it just means I wasn't good enough!
"But remember this! I'm a deputy hall master of the Feral Wolf Guild! If you kill me, the hall master won't let you get away with it! He'll skin you alive, tear out your tendons, and take the women around you..."
Crack!
Expressionless, Lin Hui grabbed his other, uninjured arm and bent it with ease.
The snap of breaking bone was crisp and clear.
"Aaaaaah-!!!"
The goateed man nearly passed out from the pain, his eyes almost bulging out of their sockets.
"You talk too much."
Lin Hui spoke indifferently, not a flicker of emotion in his eyes.
"I gave you a chance. Since you want to play the tough guy, I'll oblige."
He stood up without giving the goateed man another glance and turned toward the trembling driver.
"You tell me."
The driver had already wet himself at the sight.
Looking into Lin Hui's cold eyes, he felt more terrified than if he had seen a demon.
"I... I'll talk! I'll tell you everything! Just don't torture me!!"
"Don't you dare!!" The goateed man glared at the driver. "Aren't you afraid of what the hall master will do to you?? Besides, even if you talk, do you think this guy will let us go?"
Fear flashed through the driver's eyes. "I..."
Lin Hui stamped hard on the goateed man's head, leaving him in too much pain to speak.
Then he looked at the driver. "Go ahead. As long as I'm satisfied with what you tell me, I'll let you go..."
"Really?" The driver looked at Lin Hui.
Lin Hui said casually, "Of course, you can choose not to believe me. Then I'll shoot you right now..."
"I'll talk, I'll talk." The driver shuddered and spilled everything he knew in a torrent:
"That big plan... the guild leader is going to set up checkpoints on the outskirts of Cauldron City!"
"The guild leader calls it 'raising pigs'! Once those independent players and small guilds have gathered enough supplies, we'll harvest everything in one go! Easy work and fat pickings!"
Beside them, Su Qingqian clenched her fists as she listened. These people were utterly depraved.
"Aren't you afraid all the independent players and small guilds will band together and wipe you out?"
The driver glanced at Su Qingqian and said quietly, "Honestly, we're not afraid of anyone except the Sky Tyrant Alliance. Besides, the guild leader never said we'd kill those independent players. They just have to pay a toll, and they can enter Cauldron City."
"Pay up to avoid trouble or get hunted down until they die. Most players would probably choose the first option, right?"
Lin Hui rubbed his nose. That certainly sounded like something the Feral Wolf Guild would do-treat players like crops to be harvested.
Even if the Feral Wolf Guild wanted to kill them all, the three major guilds and the other powerful factions probably wouldn't allow it. After all, the mission in Cauldron City still required plenty of independent players and smaller factions as cannon fodder.
He wasn't afraid of any of them, but it was still a useful reminder to make thorough preparations before entering Cauldron City.
Lin Hui drew a light breath and continued, "Now tell me about your guild in detail. How is it organized? How many members?"
The driver glanced at the man they called Third Brother, who was still screaming, and said in a trembling voice, "Our guild has ten halls in total. Each hall has ten squads, and each squad has between forty and sixty people."
Lin Hui pointed at the goateed man. "What's his name? Which hall do you two belong to?"
The driver's Adam's apple bobbed. "We're from Azure Wolf Hall. His name is Hu Wei. He's the captain of Squad Three and also a deputy hall master. We all call him Third Brother."
Lin Hui silently committed this to memory and continued, "How many vehicles at level five or above does the Feral Wolf Guild currently have?"
The driver thought for a moment and said:
"At least twelve. The guild leader and Vice President have level-six vehicles, and the masters of all ten halls have level-five vehicles. I've also heard that deputy hall masters in the other halls are gathering materials to upgrade their vehicles, but I don't know whether they've succeeded."
At this point, he gave an ingratiating smile. "Today, we found a level-five Vehicle Upgrade Blueprint, but someone stole it. We were just chasing that person. I can take you to find them!"
The driver tried to offer a valuable piece of information to earn Lin Hui's trust.
Lin Hui nodded slightly. "That can wait. One last question. What's your hall master's name? What kind of vehicle was his upgraded from? Does it have a [Reconnaissance Radar] function?"
The driver swallowed. "You... what are you planning to do?"
Lin Hui said coldly, "That's not for you to ask. Just answer the questions!"
The driver took a deep breath and gritted his teeth. "The hall master's name is Yang Antong. His vehicle was modified from a Heavy Armored Personnel Carrier..."
"I don't know whether it has a Reconnaissance Radar installed, but they say his vehicle can scan every moving target within a ten-kilometer radius!"
After speaking, he looked at Lin Hui. "That's everything I know."
"Very good."
Lin Hui nodded in satisfaction.
Just then, the goateed man on the ground suddenly stopped screaming. He raised his head and revealed a savage smile.
"Kid, you're actually thinking of going after our boss?"
"Do you know how terrifying a level-five vehicle is?! You'll be blasted to pieces before you even get close!! But I hope you go!! Hahaha! That way, I'll get to see you down below sooner!!"
"Oh, really?"
Lin Hui looked at him, the corners of his mouth curling into a mocking smile.
"Then I have all the more reason to pay him a visit."
"But before that... there's something I'd like to show you."
