Background / History
Before entering human society, Xiao Wu lived in the Star Dou Great Forest under the protection of Da Ming, the Sky Azure Bull Python, and Er Ming, the Titan Giant Ape. Playing and roughhousing with them shaped her habit of treating sparring as ordinary recreation 8 14.
After taking human form, she enrolled at Nuoding Academy as a work-study student. Despite possessing innate full soul power, she initially preferred playing to meditation and cultivation. Like the other work-study students, she performed academy chores to offset her tuition 9 11.
Appearance
- Scorpion braid: A distinctive hairstyle that also serves as a grappling tool in combat 7 8 13.
- Rabbit ears: Visible during Martial Soul Possession; they twitch when she activates it 8.
- Pink glow: A faint pink radiance surrounds her body during Martial Soul Possession 8.
Personality
Xiao Wu is lively, impulsive, and intensely competitive. She refuses to accept Dorm Seven’s leadership as a gift, insisting that she must defeat Lu Yang to earn it. Repeated losses do little to dampen her enthusiasm, and she rejects Tang San’s intervention because she considers the fight her own responsibility 7 8.
Her aggression is tempered by loyalty and restraint. She rushes to defend Wang Sheng from bullies and promises to protect the work-study students, yet deliberately reduces the force of a kick when Lu Yang cannot block it during a friendly spar 9.
She dislikes boring lessons and takes perceived slights personally. When Tang San bypasses her to challenge Lu Yang, she feels ignored rather than romantically jealous; the narration explicitly distinguishes her interest in Lu Yang as a suitable playmate and sparring opponent from affection 11 14.
Although she dislikes humans hunting soul beasts, she understands that soul-ring acquisition is part of human cultivation. She nevertheless condemns Yu Xiaogang for deliberately obstructing Lu Yang’s progress 16.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Soul Possession
Activating her rabbit martial soul produces rabbit ears and a faint pink glow 8.
- Uses possession during close-range sparring and against the noble students bullying Wang Sheng 8 9.
- Her physical strength already exceeds that of ordinary human Soul Masters, though Lu Yang still overpowers her in their first confrontation 8.
Soft Techniques and Grappling
Xiao Wu specializes in mobile, close-range combat built around kicks, unusual force generation, and grappling 8 9.
- Circles opponents to attack from behind and uses her braid to attempt neck holds 8.
- Performs an arched-body kick that sends Lu Yang stumbling even before obtaining her first soul skill 9.
- Benefits from open space; the cramped dormitory limits her maneuvering and lets Lu Yang intercept her 8 9.
- Retains enough combat experience to help Lu Yang improve through repeated sparring 9.
First Soul Skill: Waist Bow
Waist Bow improves the effectiveness of her grappling techniques, making her attacks harder to defend against 13.
- Combines a braid hold around Lu Yang’s neck with a kick that sends him flying 13.
- Initially puts Lu Yang on the defensive, but cannot overcome the attribute boost and ranged weapons he gains through Sunflame Dawn 13 14.
Aura Sensitivity
Her nature as a hundred-thousand-year soul beast makes her particularly sensitive to changes in aura 14.
- Immediately recognizes that Sunflame Dawn increases Lu Yang’s presence far more than Waist Bow increases her own 14.
Relationships
- Lu Yang — Classmate and frequent sparring rival. She wants to defeat him and make him her underling; he values her combat experience. Their matches remain friendly competition rather than actual life-or-death combat 9 14 35.
- Tang San — Dormmate whose bed is pushed together with hers. He develops affection for her, but she initially prioritizes fighting over his attempts to protect or impress her. They later grow closer before his behavior causes her to consider distancing herself 7 8 14 24.
- Wang Sheng — Fellow work-study student and friend. She rescues him from noble students after he has treated her to lunch 9.
- Da Ming — Sky Azure Bull Python who protected her in the Star Dou Great Forest 8.
- Er Ming — Titan Giant Ape who protected her in the Star Dou Great Forest 8.
- Tang Hao — Secretly monitors her as a prospective soul ring for Tang San and hopes she will eventually sacrifice herself to him. He also considers abducting her and orders Yu Xiaogang to bring her and Tang San together 9 15 24.
- Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher. She resents him after learning that he obstructed Lu Yang’s soul-hunting application 16.
- Xiao Chenyu — Hostile noble student who offers to make her his “pet bunny,” provoking her anger 11.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dorm Seven Rivalry
Upon meeting Lu Yang, Xiao Wu challenges him for Dorm Seven’s leadership despite his willingness to relinquish the position. He repeatedly counters her attacks, and she finally stops when he threatens to get serious. The following morning, she renews the challenge on the training grounds, where greater freedom of movement allows her techniques to perform better 7 8 9.
Defending the Work-Study Students
Xiao Wu and Lu Yang rush to help Wang Sheng when noble students pin him down behind the academy. She defeats the attackers and declares that the work-study students have her protection. When Xiao Chenyu’s group later disrupts their chores and insults her, Lu Yang steps forward and defeats them 9 11 12.
First Soul Ring and Renewed Challenges
After condensing her first ring, Xiao Wu challenges Lu Yang with Waist Bow and initially gains the advantage. His response—Sunflame Dawn, followed by a soul-power sword and arrows—forces her to call off the match. She later follows Tang San after his defeat, intending to challenge him as well 13 14 15.
Lu Yang’s Departure and Doubts About Tang San
Finding Lu Yang’s bed empty, Xiao Wu learns that he has withdrawn from the academy following Yu Xiaogang’s interference. Her condemnation of the teacher prompts Tang San to question whether he has gone too far 16.
She and Tang San subsequently become closer, but his harsh treatment of students who gossip about Yu Xiaogang gives her misgivings. Her possible withdrawal from the relationship drives Tang Hao to demand that Yu Xiaogang repair the situation 23 24.
