History

Rescuing Li Zha

Leng Yaozhu arrives at Li Zha’s massacred village aboard a winged Soul Tool as an Evil Soul Master attempts to recruit him into the Holy Spirit Cult. She annihilates the attacker with a downward hand gesture, destroying the Ghost Banner and releasing the souls trapped within it. She subsequently brings Li Zha to the Spirit Pagoda and accepts him as her disciple 1 2.

Unable to save his parents, she feels guilty and becomes especially protective of him. Before his Martial Soul awakening, she orders Bai Haoze and Bai Zhicen to provide rare, energy-rich food to support his unusually demanding physique 2 6.

Awakening and Early Cultivation

Leng personally conducts Li Zha’s awakening in a private room secured through her position. His Lotus Dharma Body possesses a standing beyond that of a demigod, while his Fire-Tipped Spear suppresses even her ultimate-fire Heavenly Phoenix. Testing his Samadhi True Fire confirms that it can consume both soul power and ultimate fire 3 4.

After searching the Spirit Pagoda’s records for a suitably balanced soul spirit, she finds a four-thousand-year Blazing Flame Dragon. Its submission to Li Zha surprises her, and she begins considering the Body Sect’s expertise as a possible route to a second awakening of his body Martial Soul 6 7.

His first Spirit Ascension Platform expedition impresses her with his perception, tactics, and spearwork, but also exposes his delight in dangerous combat. She tends to him afterward and reconsiders how to guide a child whose outlook has been shaped by his village’s destruction 8 9 10.

Forging and Companionship

Leng initially hopes Li Zha will inherit her mecha-design expertise. Although she agrees to have his forging aptitude assessed, she privately hopes a lack of talent will redirect him toward design. His exceptional first attempt changes her mind: she accepts his preference, arranges instruction under Master Niu, and establishes a demanding training schedule 12 13 14 15.

She and Master Niu conceal his achievement as a first-rank blacksmith at six years old. She also arranges special combat instruction with Phantom Brain Douluo Han Tianyin. The apparent Holy Spirit Cult assault used to test Li Zha is ultimately revealed to be a spiritual illusion, not a real attack 15 16.

Concerned about his isolation, Leng brings Na’er into his life as a fellow student. She had found the six-year-old girl after Na’er stole buns and followed her back to the Spirit Pagoda. Leng introduces the children and assigns Han Tianyin to teach both of them 16 17.

Graduation and Eastsea City

After three years, Leng gives Li Zha and Na’er graduation assessments covering their secondary professions and combat ability. She approves Li Zha’s Thousand Refined metals and Na’er’s hand armor, then tests them against powerful Soul Beasts. Li Zha’s victory leads to his breakthrough as a three-ring Soul Elder at nine 20 22 23 24.

She rewards both students with a two-week holiday and accompanies them by Soul Guidance Train to Eastsea City. Their increasingly ruthless attitudes trouble her: she condemns Na’er’s prolonged torment of a Soul Beast and questions whether her combat-centered teaching has contributed to Li Zha’s uncompromising worldview 25 28.

During the confrontation with Guang Biao, Leng watches from above rather than intervening immediately, intending to teach the children restraint. She prepares to rescue them when the danger escalates, but their newly awakened Martial Soul Fusion Skill changes the battle. She then cares for the exhausted Na’er, leaves Guang Biao’s fate to Li Zha, and reprimands the City Defense Army 32 33 34.

Gu Yue’s Assessment

Leng agrees to assess Gu Yue for admission to the Spirit Pagoda during the Spirit Ascension Platform’s uprising period. Gu Yue’s elemental control interests her, but the unfamiliar secluded family represented by Zi Ji also raises questions. She asks Li Zha to evaluate Gu Yue and report anything suspicious, explicitly allowing him to object to her admission 42 43 44.

She also instructs Li Zha to take first place in the Primary Spirit Ascension Platform’s Soul Beast kill rankings. Later, she replaces the usual guardian beasts with a three-thousand-year Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear and a three-thousand-year pureblood Earth Dragon. Li Zha’s Three Heads and Six Arms transformation astonishes her, leaving her to wonder whether it is a self-created Soul Skill 44 50.

Appearance

  • Features: Long dark hair, phoenix-shaped eyes, pink lips, and a coldly beautiful face described as initially unapproachable 3.
  • Initial attire: A black uniform worn during Li Zha’s rescue 1.
  • Casual attire: Long dresses or fitted white clothing; she sometimes ties her hair into a ponytail 3 12 43.
  • Change after the rescue: She burns her black uniform and resolves not to wear one again, fearing it could revive Li Zha’s traumatic memories 12.

Personality

Leng’s reserved public manner contrasts with her open affection for Li Zha. At his awakening, she gives Bai Haoze and Bai Zhicen only a brief acknowledgment before warmly greeting her student. She celebrates his successes physically, embraces him after his first contract, and immediately cares for him when he returns exhausted from combat 3 7 9.

Her teaching emphasizes discipline rather than talent alone. She wants Li Zha to develop independent self-reflection, careful working habits, and practical fighting ability. Although she initially tries to steer him toward her own craft, she ultimately believes he must cultivate and live in the way he chooses 13 14 15.

Her protectiveness coexists with harsh lessons. She permits the dangerous fight with Guang Biao to continue before preparing to intervene, yet repeatedly worries about Li Zha’s recklessness and cruelty. Her ambitions for him also carry a private emotional motive: she hopes to raise someone who can surpass Yun Ming, the man she loves but cannot have 12 28 32.
