Bardock explained, "So you should put Gohan under a stricter mentor and let him receive proper training, instead of letting him spend all day crying under your protection."

"I'll talk to Chi-Chi. Leave it to me!" Bardock said.
Although Chi-Chi was always forceful with Goku, she could not maintain that attitude in front of Bardock.
Especially after Bardock promised to arrange a future for Gohan where he would never have to worry about food or clothing, Chi-Chi finally agreed to let him leave home for six months of training.
