Power Progression

Lin Chen’s Timeline

The chapters below document Vegeta’s demonstrated forms and power milestones; they do not always show when he first attained them.

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Battle power: 530,000 111 Dominates his preliminary ring. Lin Chen believes his Tree of Might fruit-enhanced growth has nearly reached its limit, making further training necessary.
Battle power: over 700,000 139 Raditz reports this level during their confrontation with Earth’s fighters.
Great Ape 144 Used during his first battle with Goku. Vegeta later admits that without this transformation, he would have lost.
Battle power: 1 million; Kaioken ×8 180 Secretly learns Kaioken from Goku and the others. Reaches 8 million against Cooler, but remains badly outmatched.
Kaioken ×10 203 Uses the higher multiplier against Abo Kado on Namek.
Pseudo Super Saiyan 203 204 Bulma’s injury triggers a golden aura and increased strength, but his hair does not turn golden. The incomplete form cannot defeat Abo Kado.
Super Saiyan 226 By this chapter, Vegeta declares his intention to break beyond Super Saiyan’s limits. His first successful transformation is not shown in the supplied passages.
Super Saiyan Full Power 252 Has mastered the state early through Lin Chen’s guidance. Plans to use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to gain the strength required for Super Saiyan 2.
Super Saiyan 2 271 Reveals the form against Cell. Trunks explains that Vegeta attained it earlier and subsequently concentrated on strengthening his base form.
Super Saiyan 3 294 Reveals the form against Hatchiyack after five years of training. His transformed battle power exceeds 5 billion and approaches 10 billion.
Base battle power: over 25 million 306 Ten years of arduous training bring his Super Saiyan 2 battle power above 2.5 billion.
Super Saiyan Blue 371 Frieza recalls Vegeta’s brief blue-haired transformation and judges its strength comparable to his own.
Super Saiyan Blue Evolved / Deep Blue 486 A self-developed, stable transformation. His Divine Realm reaches the advanced stage of the first rank, comparable to an ordinary God of Destruction. Lin Chen considers him somewhat stronger than Sidra, apart from lacking destruction power.
Unnamed blue-haired, lightning-wreathed power-up 524 Unleashes a new trump card against Dragon Ball-enhanced Frieza. Trunks notes its resemblance to Super Saiyan 2; the passage does not name it.

Parallel-Timeline Counterparts

These milestones belong to other versions of Vegeta, not the Vegeta of Lin Chen’s timeline.

Background / History

Childhood and Royal Ambition

Vegeta is the son of the ruler displaced by Lin Chen. During Turles’s invasion, he shelters beneath a mountain with other Saiyan children and several adult women. When Lin Chen enters their refuge, Vegeta attacks him, only for Broly to catch his fist effortlessly. He responds by asserting his status as Saiyan prince 11.

Even after being overpowered, Vegeta continues attacking Broly with rapid ki blasts. He vows to surpass the stronger warriors and reclaim the throne for his father 12 13. His rivalry with Broly persists after Planet Vegeta’s recovery: he repeatedly visits Broly’s secluded home to demand another fight, despite earlier losses and Broly’s requests to be left alone. He also names Lin Chen as an eventual target 26.

First Planet Vegeta Tournament

Vegeta enters Planet Vegeta’s first World Martial Arts Tournament aiming for the championship. At a battle power of 530,000, he eliminates more than a hundred opponents from his preliminary ring, then defeats elite finalists in only a few moves 111 113.

His championship opponent is Artificial Alien No. 7, formerly the Frieza Force warrior Cui. Vegeta regards the match as a test of Saiyan superiority over artificial enhancement. He wins with a Galick Gun powerful enough to break the arena’s shield, forcing Lin Chen to stop the blast before it reaches the spectators 113 115.

The championship grants him a challenge against one of Planet Vegeta’s three Super Saiyans. Rather than choose Bardock, Vegeta challenges Lin Chen, his goal since childhood. Even after receiving a Senzu Bean, he cannot make Lin Chen move a single step. Lin Chen blocks his attacks with one finger, demonstrates his transformations, and flicks him out of the ring. The defeat renews Vegeta’s determination to train 115.

Arrival on Earth

Vegeta travels to Earth with Raditz after hearing that Lin Chen called Kakarot the Saiyans’ future. He wants to judge the supposedly exceptional low-class warrior for himself 132 133.

Although he stops Raditz from killing a farmer under Linx’s restrictions, Vegeta treats Goku’s Earthling friends with contempt. After Goku refuses to join their squad, Vegeta abducts Gohan and Bulma to force a confrontation 134 135.

Vegeta overpowers Goku’s fivefold Kaioken, then faces a stronger challenge from eightfold Kaioken and a Kamehameha. Their fight escalates into a beam struggle and eventually requires Vegeta’s Great Ape form. After the group forces him back into humanoid form, Bardock intervenes to prevent further violence and invokes the law against Saiyans killing one another over personal grudges 141 144.

Goku asks Bardock to spare Vegeta, acknowledging that he survived only through his friends’ help. Vegeta nevertheless admits that he would have lost without becoming a Great Ape. He refuses to return home and instead stays on Earth to understand Goku’s training and surpass him 144.

Namek and the Super Saiyan Barrier

Vegeta’s Earth training raises his battle power to one million and teaches him Kaioken. His first demonstrated use of eightfold Kaioken is to help Goku against Cooler, rather than to challenge Goku as planned 180.

Still unable to become a Super Saiyan, Vegeta travels to Namek hoping to obtain that power through the Dragon Balls. He finds battles already underway and joins Goku against Abo Kado. Their initial coordination deteriorates because of their different fighting styles 201 203.

When Abo Kado injures Bulma, Vegeta’s rage triggers Pseudo Super Saiyan. The incomplete transformation proves insufficient, and Goku and the others interrupt Abo Kado’s attempt to finish him. Vegeta then shares Linx’s instructions about rage and concentrating power in the back, helping Goku achieve a true Super Saiyan transformation 203 204.

Afterward, Vegeta directly asks Lin Chen how to cross the same threshold. Lin Chen identifies insufficient S-Cells as the reason his strength alone has not produced a complete transformation 207.

Family Life and Later Conflicts

Vegeta settles at Capsule Corporation with Bulma and their son Trunks while continuing gravity training. His concern for the injured visiting Trunks leads him to reveal the youth’s identity as their son from another timeline; Bulma’s teasing about their cross-world relationship embarrasses him 236 248.

He joins the defense against Meta-Coolers and the expedition against the Big Gete Star 235 239 240. During the Cell confrontation, he demonstrates Super Saiyan 2 but cannot meaningfully damage Cell. His Final Flash risks destroying Earth, and Trunks intervenes when Cell counters it 271.

Five years of further training produce Super Saiyan 3. Vegeta and Goku jointly defeat Hatchiyack, despite arguing over who should fight him 294. He later finishes runner-up to Goku in another Saiyan tournament, but sits out Earth’s tournament to watch the children compete. Even after Trunks loses the junior final to Lin Luo, Vegeta boasts that his son is stronger than Goten 298 300.

After being revived following the Majin Buu conflict, Vegeta is discouraged to learn that Lin Chen has once again resolved the crisis before he and Goku could close the gap. His desire to grow stronger eventually overcomes his resistance to fusing with Goku 321 323.

Divine Training and Timeline Missions

Vegeta trains in the God of Destruction Realm with Lin Chen and Goku, leaving him unavailable during Frieza’s initial attack on Planet Vegeta 365. His later blue-haired transformation makes Frieza cautious about choosing him as an opponent 371.

During Goku Black’s attack, Vegeta explains that comparable transformations do not compensate for unequal base strength. He blocks Black’s escape route, but Black ultimately vanishes through Instant Transmission, beyond the group’s ability to track his divine ki 402.

Vegeta subsequently reveals his independently developed Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form 486. Even after Bulla’s birth, he continues training with Whis; Bulma jokes that he quickly tired of diaper duty 522.

When Future Trunks seeks help with disrupted history, Vegeta volunteers to accompany him and Mai. They reach Timeline 30’s Namek in Age 762, where a Dragon Ball has unnaturally strengthened Frieza. Vegeta initially fights alone in Super Saiyan Blue, then reveals a lightning-wreathed power-up when Trunks joins him 523 524.

Appearance

  • Upright hair: His hair is already described as standing straight up during childhood 11.
  • Saiyan tail: On his first visit to Kame House, he wears his tail wrapped around his waist 135.
  • Pseudo Super Saiyan: Surrounded by golden flame without the golden hair of a complete transformation 203 204.
  • Divine transformation: Uses a blue-haired form recognized by Frieza 371.
  • Space-Time 141 counterpart: Super Saiyan Fifth Grade is distinguished by black eyes; his Super Saiyan 3 appearance has waist-length upright hair and no golden eyebrows 441 442.

Personality

Vegeta’s royal pride and ambition shape his early behavior. He repeatedly challenges Broly despite losing, treats weaker opponents contemptuously, and chooses Lin Chen rather than an easier opponent for his championship challenge. Failure rarely ends his pursuit of strength: after the first Earth battle, he commits to studying the methods that made Goku powerful 26 111 115 144.

His respect for authority does not erase his aggression. He enforces Linx’s prohibition against unauthorized attacks on weaker races, yet later kidnaps Gohan and Bulma and threatens to destroy Earth. In the Cell fight, his refusal to accept humiliation leads him to fire an attack that could destroy the planet, rationalizing that Shenron could restore it 134 135 144 271.

Vegeta’s attachments are often clearer in his actions than his words. Bulma’s injury provokes his Pseudo Super Saiyan awakening, and he openly worries about the wounded parallel-world Trunks. His concern coexists with embarrassment and competitiveness: he blushes at Bulma’s teasing and boasts about their son’s strength 203 236 298.

His training becomes increasingly focused on fundamentals rather than transformations alone. After reaching Super Saiyan 2, he strengthens his base power; later, he develops Super Saiyan Blue Evolved independently. Nevertheless, his desire to prove himself still makes him resist teamwork, including during the altered Namek mission 271 486 524.

Martial Arts and Ki Control

  • Combines close-range strikes, aerial combat, evasive movement, and energy barrages 115 141.
  • Eliminates numerous tournament opponents with a single burst of ki 111.
  • Suppresses his ki to avoid alerting Earth’s fighters or Bardock during his arrival 134.
  • Recognizes that Scouter readings can underestimate Earthlings who conceal their energy 134.
  • Develops his strength through gravity training and sustained work on his base form 248 271.

Energy Techniques

Technique Applications and Limits
Ki Blasts Uses rapid barrages against Broly and Lin Chen; neither barrage overcomes their superior strength 12 115.
Galick Gun Wins the tournament final against Cui and counters Goku’s Kamehameha. Its destructive reach can exceed arena defenses 115 141.
Final Flash Uses against Cell and combines with Goku’s Kamehameha to overwhelm Hatchiyack’s Grudge Cannon. Cell counters it effortlessly 271 294.
Big Bang Attack The Space-Time 141 counterpart uses it during twentyfold Super Kaioken, including a point-blank attempt that Goku evades through Instant Transmission 441.

Kaioken

  • Secretly learns the technique from Goku and the others on Earth 180.
  • Demonstrates eightfold and tenfold boosts before completing Super Saiyan 180 203.
  • Even an eight-million battle power is insufficient against Cooler 180.

Super Saiyan Transformations

  • Advances from Pseudo Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan Full Power, Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, and divine blue-haired forms 204 252 271 294 371.
  • His failed initial awakening shows that sufficient battle power does not guarantee enough S-Cells for a complete transformation 207.
  • Super Saiyan 3 carries a heavy physical burden, despite its greatly increased strength 294.
  • Develops Super Saiyan Blue Evolved himself, reaching a Divine Realm comparable to an ordinary God of Destruction without acquiring destruction power 486.

Fusion

  • Vegito: Fuses with Goku through Potara Earrings during training in the Sacred World of the Kai. Super Saiyan 3 Vegito reaches a battle power of 50 billion, but Lin Chen’s Black God form defeats him 323 324 325.
  • Vegeks: Fuses with Trunks to create a warrior who introduces himself by this name and shatters Cell’s head with a punch. The supplied passage does not identify the fusion method 533.

Super Kaioken — Space-Time 141

This counterpart develops a distinct method of combining Super Saiyan power with Kaioken 440.

  • Adapts to Kaioken through training with Super Saiyan 1 Full Power as his normal state 440.
  • Retains Super Saiyan ki while returning to a normal-bodied condition, called Super Saiyan Fifth Grade 441 442.
  • Can immediately activate ×10, but must increase higher multipliers gradually 442.
  • Sustains ×20 for approximately fifteen seconds; its energy cost forces pauses and creates openings for Goku 441 442.

Equipment / Items

  • Scouter — Measures battle power and assists his search for fighters on Earth 134 184.
  • Personal spacecraft — Travels to Earth alongside Raditz and later reaches Namek 133 201.
  • Gravity Room — Regularly trains at Capsule Corporation; its breakdown becomes a source of argument with Bulma 226 248.
  • Healing Device — A Dr. Brief-replicated model brought back into use after Vegeta moves into Bulma’s home 236.
  • Space-survival mask — Uses equipment brought by Trunks to fight outside the Big Gete Star; unlike Lin Chen and Lazuli, he requires it to survive in space 240.
  • Potara Earrings — Uses them to fuse with Goku into Vegito 323.

Relationships

  • King Vegeta — Father. Vegeta initially vows to restore his throne; King Vegeta later takes pride in his son’s tournament ability and acknowledges that Vegeta surpasses him 13 111.
  • Tarble — Younger brother. Tarble supports him at the tournament, while Vegeta responds impatiently 113.
  • Lin Chen / Linx — King and longstanding benchmark. Vegeta has wanted to defeat him since childhood, accepts his guidance, and repeatedly renews his efforts after witnessing stronger forms 115 207 225.
  • Broly — Childhood rival whose strength frustrates him. Repeated challenges fail, and learning of Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline gives Vegeta an explanation for the gap 26 184 186.
  • Raditz — Squadmate, follower, and frequent sparring partner. Their years of training substantially improve Raditz’s strength, though Vegeta’s criticism remains harsh 111 135 140.
  • Goku / Kakarot — Rival, training benchmark, battle partner, and fusion partner. Their first conflict becomes Vegeta’s motivation to study Earth’s training methods; later battles mix cooperation with persistent competition 144 203 294 323.
  • Bulma — Partner and mother of his children. Their relationship combines arguments and teasing with strong protective attachment 203 236 248 522.
  • Trunks — Son. Vegeta boasts about his ability and recognizes the injured visiting Trunks as another version of his child 236 298.
  • Bulla — Daughter. Her birth does not interrupt his intensive training with Whis 522.
  • Future Trunks — Parallel-world son whom he supports on a mission to investigate damaged history, despite refusing his help against Frieza 523 524.
  • Bardock — Senior commander whose authority Vegeta accepts after the first Earth battle. Vegeta addresses him as “Uncle Bardock” when explaining his decision to remain on Earth 144.
  • Whis — Training instructor; Vegeta is shown training with him after Bulla’s birth 522.

Parallel-Timeline Counterparts

Cell-Era World and New Planet Vegeta

This Vegeta has already defeated Cell and possesses a base battle power of about 1.5 million. Paragus’s appeal to restore Saiyan glory does not interest him, but the prospect of fighting a Legendary Super Saiyan persuades him to visit New Planet Vegeta 51 52.

His Super Saiyan Second Grade reaches 52.5 million, yet Broly ignores his full-force attack. Witnessing Broly and Lin Chen’s Legendary Super Saiyan battle shatters his belief that defeating Cell made him the strongest Saiyan 54 59 60.

Timeline 228

A Vegeta among the resurrected Z Fighters reunites with Trunks at Kami’s Lookout. He tells his son that he watched him from Other World and is proud of his accomplishments, then sternly discourages him from crying 167.

Lin Chen assigns Vegeta and Future Trunks to train beyond ordinary Super Saiyan in preparation for Cell’s return ten months later 167.

Prince Trunks’s Saiyan Empire

Known as Vegeta IV, this counterpart loses his ambition to reclaim his father’s throne after witnessing Broly’s overwhelming power. He accepts an Earth-conquest assignment, defeats the Red Ribbon Army, and spares Dr. Gero to continue android research. While stationed on Earth, he falls in love with Bulma and becomes Trunks’s father 222.

News that Broly killed Vegeta III triggers his Super Saiyan awakening. Working with Bardock and more than two hundred energy-absorbing Android 19 units, he defeats Broly and becomes king. Bardock dies during the battle, and Vegeta barely survives 223.

Under Vegeta, the Saiyan Empire expands across all four galaxies. Bulma becomes his consort and Trunks his designated heir. Vegeta dismisses Bulma’s warning about flawed android controls, believing Super Saiyans can overpower the machines 223.

Gero’s Androids 17 and 18 destroy the capital and defeat him. Raditz and Nappa help him escape, but his counterattacks fail, and he is assassinated a year after Planet Vegeta falls. Gero subsequently turns him into an Android 224 225.

Piccolo’s World

This counterpart dies during the Majin Buu crisis. Trunks attempts to return and avenge him, but Piccolo knocks Trunks and Goten unconscious and carries them to safety 334.

Space-Time 141

This Vegeta retraces Goku’s training from Korin Tower through Snake Way and King Kai’s Planet, setting aside his pride to close their power gap. He reaches Super Saiyan 2 Full Power and develops Super Kaioken 438 440.

Against an increasingly violent Goku, he reveals Super Kaioken ×20, Super Saiyan Fifth Grade, and Super Saiyan 3. Goku studies the technique’s timing, exploits its recovery windows, and overwhelms him. During the continued battle, Lin Chen detects a subtle change in Vegeta’s ki resembling a realization, but the supplied passage does not establish a new form or the fight’s outcome 441 442 443.
