Wu Chiwu advanced through the Chunin Exam while Orochimaru pursued Sasuke and sought to seize Wu Chiwu as well. The invasion began during Sasuke’s postponed match, and Wu Chiwu revealed himself inside the barrier as Hiruzen fought Orochimaru and the resurrected First and Second Hokage.

• Kabuto left the Chunin Exam after gathering intelligence, while Wu Chiwu’s team reached the central tower and the preliminaries began.
• Sasuke defeated Akado Yoroi by trapping him with Lightning Release, and Haku and Hozuki Kagetsu won their matches before Kankuro and Zhang Ran forfeited to Wu Chiwu.
• Gorō Satoru made the examinees eat his disastrously sweet ramen, then won their wager when Naruto defeated Kiba with Multiple Shadow Clones.
• Orochimaru told Kabuto to bring him Sasuke and Gorō, while Jiraiya agreed to train Naruto and Kakashi agreed to train Sasuke.
• Wu Chiwu defeated Neji by copying his techniques and blocking the chakra in his arm, earning Neji’s victory and prompting him to question whether fate could change.
• Orochimaru, disguised as the Kazekage, arranged for Sasuke’s match to be postponed, while Wu Chiwu learned from Hozuki Kagetsu and Haku that strange ninja were preparing a Summoning Technique.
• During the invasion, Orochimaru revealed himself and trapped Hiruzen inside the Four Violet Flames Formation, while Wu Chiwu dropped his disguise and confronted them.
• Orochimaru resurrected Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju, who attacked Hiruzen, but Gorō Satoru cut through the branches holding him and challenged Orochimaru’s warning not to interfere.

Gorō Satoru confronted Hiruzen Sarutobi, joined the Akatsuki, and repeatedly disrupted its operations while keeping Sasuke from leaving with Orochimaru. After he killed Black Zetsu, he found himself wanted by Konoha, Otogakure, and the Akatsuki, while Tsunade moved to protect Naruto.

• Gorō Satoru refused Hiruzen Sarutobi’s protection during Orochimaru’s attack, fought Tobirama Senju, and reached Hiruzen after breaking through Hashirama Senju’s Wood Release cage.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi sealed Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju, then used the Reaper Death Seal to take Orochimaru’s arms, while Wu Chiwu stopped Orochimaru from stabbing him.
• Gorō Satoru escaped Konoha with Orochimaru, obtained research materials from his laboratory, and later encountered Uchiha Itachi and Kisame Hoshigaki while they pursued Naruto.
• Gorō Satoru joined the Akatsuki as a reserve member, unsettled its members with traps, and told Sasuke Uchiha that the Uchiha Clan Massacre had been staged before Sasuke returned to the Uchiha compound.
• Gorō Satoru leaked Akatsuki plans and disrupted its missions, then teamed up with Deidara in a contest that ended with their fight against Asuma’s squad and the destruction of the bounty exchange.
• Gorō Satoru confronted the Akatsuki for excluding him from tailed-beast sealing and blasted Black Zetsu with black energy before escaping with him.
• Gorō Satoru took Black Zetsu to a remote place and killed him with Purple after rejecting his claim that Gorō was another child of Princess Kaguya.
• Gorō Satoru learned that Konoha, Otogakure, and the Akatsuki had issued wanted notices for him, while Tsunade decided Naruto should remain in the village because the Akatsuki might target him.
