"Um, aren't you scared of me?"
Naruto's words nearly broke Meihui and Sasuke. So much time had passed that they had almost forgotten the unhappiness of their childhood, but the Naruto before them was still living through that suffering.
"Scared of you? Why would I be scared of you?"
Boruto couldn't understand what Naruto meant. As a spoiled kid, he wasn't even afraid of his dad back home, let alone now.
After all, the household hierarchy in Naruto's family was Hinata Hyuga > Boruto Uzumaki > the TV > good food > ... > Naruto.
In other words, Boruto wasn't afraid of his dad at all. As for who he did fear, that was Meihui, of course.
To keep Boruto from becoming a brat, Meihui had kept him by his side since he was old enough to remember. That had made life miserable for Boruto. Naruto and Sasuke had grown up getting beaten by Meihui, and now Boruto had joined their ranks.
Meihui's reasoning was: "Watch Briar and Bramble as a kid, and you're bound to grow up into a little terror."
Naruto: "Nii-san, what the heck are Briar and Bramble?"
Meihui: "Never mind. Just listen to me."
And so, Boruto had been raised at Meihui's side ever since.
Only after traveling back to Naruto's childhood and seeing him like this did Boruto find himself at a loss for words.
He had almost called him Dad, but Sasuke stopped him.
Boruto looked at Sasuke in confusion, but Sasuke only shook his head.
"But they all call me the Demon Fox. Aren't you scared I'll eat you?"
As Naruto spoke, he bared his teeth and waved his hands like claws, trying to give Boruto a scare.
Boruto's face remained expressionless, but he was already grumbling inwardly.
