| Jōgan manifestation | 262 | Appears despite Meihui’s attempts to alter its timing. |
| Momoshiki chakra sealed within him | 268 | Meihui seals a small portion of Momoshiki’s remaining power inside Boruto with an Eight Trigrams-shaped seal, intending it as protection against future enemies. |
| Chakra Cloak | 269 | Meihui restrains Momoshiki in the sealing space and extracts chakra, allowing Boruto to manifest a cloak. |
| Kāma formation | 270 | Under Meihui’s instruction, Boruto gathers Ōtsutsuki power into his palm, forming a black diamond-shaped mark. Meihui adds his own chakra to restrict Momoshiki. |

| Wind Release: Rasengan | 320 | Has recently incorporated wind-nature chakra into the Rasengan and begins experimenting with compression. |
| Kāma, second stage | 343 | Momoshiki supplies power after Boruto threatens to involve Meihui. Boruto develops a horn and a Jōgan-like right eye, but the transformation ends after an enlarged Rasengan because Momoshiki has too little chakra to sustain it. |
| Second-stage Kāma mastery | 352 | Gains control of the transformation during the battle against Code and begins overpowering him. Momoshiki accepts cooperation rather than continuing to struggle for control. |
| Wind Release: Compressed Rasengan | 369 | Uses Kāma State One to improve chakra control and successfully compresses a wind-infused Rasengan into a tiny, highly explosive projectile. The effort exhausts his chakra and causes him to collapse. |
Background / History
Birth and upbringing
Boruto is born to Naruto and Hinata three years after their wedding. Naruto is delighted by his birth, while Jiraiya affectionately regards the newborn as his great-grandson. Meihui, Naruto’s older twin brother, resolves to supervise Boruto’s upbringing so that he does not become spoiled 260 261.
With Naruto occupied by his duties as Hokage, Meihui offers to take responsibility for Boruto’s training once he is old enough. Boruto grows up with a younger sister, Himawari, and becomes familiar with the Byakugan through both his mother and sister 261 262.
Momoshiki’s arrival
During the Ninja Exchange Tournament, Meihui uses Hanabi’s victory to teach Boruto about strength, skill, and tactical mistakes. When Momoshiki arrives and kicks Naruto away, Boruto freezes in alarm at his father’s injury 262.
Boruto secretly follows Meihui, Naruto, and Sasuke through a spatial vortex to the battlefield. Although Naruto reprimands him, Boruto enthusiastically cheers for his father and Sasuke. His presence makes him a target for Kinshiki, whose enormous sword attack nearly kills him; Naruto and Sasuke coordinate a rescue using Kurama’s chakra and Amenotejikara 264 265 266.
After defeating Momoshiki, Meihui seals part of the Ōtsutsuki’s power inside Boruto. Momoshiki threatens revenge from within Boruto’s inner space, but Meihui enters through the seal he created and subdues him. Subsequent lessons teach Boruto both how to access this power and why its influence must be controlled 268 269 270.
Protecting Shukaku
Sent ahead alone by Meihui, Boruto finds Shinki and Shukaku and identifies himself as Konoha’s support. Shinki initially doubts that a child can provide meaningful assistance 273 274.
When Urashiki arrives, Momoshiki offers power out of anger at the other Ōtsutsuki’s contempt. Boruto initially recognizes that he cannot win without stronger allies. He later channels Momoshiki’s power to deflect Urashiki’s fishhook and escape with his companions, refusing to abandon the exhausted Shinki. A vanishing Rasengan briefly disrupts their pursuer before Meihui arrives to intercept another attack 274 276.
Journey to the past
Boruto travels with Meihui and Sasuke to an earlier Konoha, where he encounters Naruto as a lonely child. Sasuke prevents him from revealing their father–son relationship. Instead, Boruto accepts Naruto’s request for friendship and spends time with him without disclosing his identity 284 285.
The visit exposes Boruto to a childhood very different from his own. Young Naruto says that he has no family and has always lived alone. Boruto also discovers that Meihui is absent from this timeline, though he avoids pressing the issue for fear of changing the future 286 299.
Boruto exposes Jiraiya’s bathhouse peeping, mocks his prestigious titles, and shocks him by producing a Rasengan. Jiraiya warns him not to demonstrate the technique publicly because its connection to Minato could attract unwanted attention 288 289 290.
Meeting younger versions of Konohamaru, Udon, Moegi, and the Ino–Shika–Cho trio repeatedly unsettles Boruto. He is especially frustrated by Naruto’s failure to notice Hinata’s feelings and urges him to apologize after she leaves upset. The travelers eventually return to their original timeline 297 298 299 304.
Kawaki and the new Team 7
Naruto brings Kawaki home and introduces him as Boruto’s older brother. Boruto mistakenly concludes that Kawaki is Naruto’s illegitimate son and tells Hinata, causing a family confrontation before Meihui explains that Naruto took the boy in out of compassion 313 314.
Boruto joins a reorganized Team 7 with Sarada, Mitsuki, and Kawaki, led by Itachi rather than Konohamaru. During Boro’s ambush, his Rasengan fails to overcome the enemy’s regeneration. Boro’s viral mist incapacitates him, and Boro breaks his arm. Kawaki carries him to safety, while Mitsuki supplies antibodies that restore his ability to move 319 321.
Meihui’s initial teasing leaves Boruto deeply discouraged, but his subsequent encouragement turns that humiliation into determination. Boruto later reassures Kawaki that Konoha will not surrender him to Boro. After Meihui destroys Boro’s regeneration core, Team 7 is ordered to fight the berserk enemy with Itachi standing by to protect them 322 323 324.
Campaign against Kara
Delta initially overwhelms Team 7, absorbs Boruto’s ninjutsu, and repeatedly injures him. Itachi intervenes with Susanoo, and Boruto helps Kawaki destroy Delta’s drone 339 340 341.
Against Code, Boruto obtains second-stage Kāma by pressuring Momoshiki into lending him power. His first transformation is brief, leaving Itachi to shield him afterward. With Boruto’s permission, Momoshiki takes control long enough to drive a compressed Rasengan through Code’s abdomen 343.
Boruto and Kawaki subsequently serve as bait in Konoha’s offensive against Kara. Boruto coordinates with Sarada and Kawaki to pressure Code, then outwits Delta with a shadow-clone decoy and an underground attack using an invisible Rasengan. During the wider battle, he masters second-stage Kāma and gains the advantage over Code 347 348 350 352.
Omnipotence and renewed training
Ada’s Omnipotence rewrites people’s perceptions of Boruto and Kawaki: Kawaki is remembered as Naruto and Hinata’s biological son, while Boruto is treated as the child they adopted. Blood relatives remain unaffected, as do people with the Rinnegan. Boruto’s parents and Sasuke therefore retain their knowledge of his true identity 360 361 362.
Boruto is hurt by Kawaki’s desire to take his place and by his suggestion that Boruto should be killed. Meihui cannot reverse Omnipotence and tells Boruto to endure the altered public perception for the time being; his family continues treating him as before 361 362.
Training becomes Boruto’s priority. Meihui pushes him to strengthen his body for Kāma, while Boruto worries that his own chakra and combat skills remain inadequate without Momoshiki. Under Sasuke’s supervision, he develops a precision-based approach to the Rasengan and successfully produces the Wind Release: Compressed Rasengan 367 368 369.
Appearance
- Blond hair: Resembles Naruto closely enough that people in the past notice their likeness 288 297.
- “Pineapple-head” hairstyle: Repeatedly used to describe his distinctive hair 260 261 284.
- Kāma mark: A black diamond-shaped mark formed in the center of his palm 270.
- Second-stage transformation: Develops a horn, a Jōgan-like right eye, and blue light radiating from his body 343.
Personality
Boruto is outspoken, mischievous, and frequently impulsive. He sneaks into the battle against Momoshiki, jumps to conclusions about Kawaki’s parentage, and attacks Delta before hearing Kawaki’s full warning. Sudden power also encourages him to boast and underestimate danger, particularly when he first accesses Momoshiki’s chakra 264 270 314 339.
His loyalty is stronger than his caution. He refuses to abandon Shinki, reassures Kawaki that Konoha will protect him, and reacts strongly to anything that hurts Hinata. In the past, he judges Jiraiya by his behavior rather than his reputation and openly challenges him over peeping 276 289 299 314 323.
Repeated defeats gradually give Boruto a more deliberate desire to improve. He pursues training even when it costs him rest or social opportunities, and he seeks strength beyond dependence on Momoshiki. Sasuke recognizes Naruto’s optimism and persistence in his effort to befriend the hostile being inside him 322 367 368 369.
Despite criticizing young Naruto’s romantic obliviousness, Boruto fails to recognize Sarada’s own interest. He declines her movie invitation because he has training scheduled, not realizing why she is upset 299 368.
Abilities & Skills
Rasengan and its variants
Boruto masters the Rasengan through talent and sustained effort, then experiments with variants suited to his smaller chakra reserves 290 369.
- Vanishing Rasengan: Disappears before striking Urashiki; an invisible Rasengan later supports his surprise attack against Delta 276 350.
- Wind Release: Rasengan: Incorporates wind-nature chakra, changing the sphere from blue to green 320 350 369.
- Enlarged Rasengan: Second-stage Kāma allows him to expand the attack enough to badly injure Code 343.
- Wind Release: Compressed Rasengan: Concentrates the attack into a tiny projectile with a powerful explosion, favoring precision over Naruto’s high-volume approach 369.
- Limits: Early compression attempts explode prematurely and injure his hand. His successful wind-infused version still exhausts him completely 320 369.
Kāma and Momoshiki’s power
Kāma gives Boruto access to Ōtsutsuki power, but also connects him to Momoshiki’s potential resurrection. Meihui modifies its formation with his own chakra to prevent Momoshiki from acting freely 270.
- Chakra Cloak: Surrounds Boruto with extracted Momoshiki chakra 269.
- State One: Enhances his combat strength and raises his chakra control during compression training 350 369.
- Second stage: Produces an Ōtsutsuki-like transformation and enough strength to overpower Code after mastery 343 352.
- Mental influence: Initial exposure encourages violent overconfidence, requiring Naruto’s warning and Meihui’s intervention 270.
- Negotiated control: Boruto permits Momoshiki to take over for a specific attack against Code 343.
- Protection: Momoshiki neutralizes Jigen’s oppressive aura when it nearly suffocates Boruto 344.
Jōgan
- Boruto’s Jōgan manifests despite Meihui’s efforts to change when it appears 262.
- His right eye takes on a Jōgan-like appearance during second-stage Kāma 343.
Shadow Clones and battle tactics
- Shadow Clone Technique: Creates three additional copies while preparing to fight Boro again 325.
- Mobility support: Uses clones to boost his real body’s speed during the fight against Delta 340.
- Deception: Lets Delta strike a clone while his real body attacks from underground 350.
- Coordinated ambushes: Predicts Code’s Claw Mark escape point after Sarada forces him to evade, landing a Rasengan 348.
Relationships
- Naruto Uzumaki — Father. Boruto alternates between teasing, frustration, and admiration toward him; seeing Naruto fight and encountering his lonely childhood both challenge Boruto’s assumptions 264 285 286.
- Hinata Hyuga — Mother. Boruto is fiercely protective of her feelings, both during the misunderstanding about Kawaki and when young Naruto overlooks her affection 299 314.
- Himawari — Younger sister; her Byakugan contributes to Boruto’s familiarity with the eye technique 262.
- Meihui Uzumaki — Paternal uncle and principal mentor. Supervises his upbringing, seals Momoshiki inside him, and trains him rigorously. Boruto fears provoking him far more than he fears Naruto 261 268 285 367.
- Sasuke Uchiha — Mentor and protective family friend. Helps rescue Boruto from Kinshiki, worries immediately when he is endangered, and supervises his later Rasengan experiments 265 276 369.
- Itachi Uchiha — Leader of the reorganized Team 7. Encourages Boruto’s technique development and repeatedly intervenes to protect him 319 320 341 343.
- Sarada Uchiha — Teammate with romantic feelings for him. Brings homemade food and invites him to a movie, but Boruto misses the invitation’s significance 367 368.
- Mitsuki — Devoted teammate. Saves Boruto from Boro’s virus with antibodies and declares that he will follow Boruto wherever he goes 321 347.
- Kawaki — Adoptive brother and teammate whose bond with Boruto deteriorates. They initially protect and reassure one another, but Kawaki’s envy leads to the identity swap and an attempt to displace Boruto 323 348 360 361 362.
- Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki — Sealed power source and uneasy partner. Boruto initially coerces him through threats involving Meihui, but later offers genuine friendship; Momoshiki cooperates for survival while still resisting that offer 343 352 369.
- Shinki — Mission companion. Their initial distrust gives way to mutual refusal to abandon one another during Urashiki’s pursuit 274 276.
- Jiraiya — Affectionately regards newborn Boruto as his great-grandson. During the trip to the past, Boruto instead encounters him as a stranger and mocks him as the “Pervy Sage” 260 289.
