Only after Meihui repeatedly assured him that the snake that had just bitten him was not venomous did Sasuke breathe a sigh of relief.
"That's good. Scared me half to death. I even..."
Before Sasuke could finish, he passed out, terrifying Naruto beside him. Naruto genuinely thought Sasuke had been poisoned by a venomous snake and started pulling down his pants. Had Meihui been any slower, Naruto would have put his mouth to work.
"Little bro, Sasuke really is fine. That snake wasn't venomous. Don't do that. You're freaking me out."
Naruto and Sasuke really were the best of buddies. Tsk, tsk, tsk. He had even pulled his pants down.
With Sasuke unconscious, they had no choice but to let Naruto carry him. The three of them found somewhere to rest.
"Little bro, we still haven't collected both scrolls. Stay here and watch Sasuke. I'll go find a scroll and be back soon." Meihui put together a simple resting spot for Naruto and Sasuke, then left.
Naruto said nothing more and simply kept a silent vigil over Sasuke, afraid something might happen to him.
Meanwhile, Meihui was still searching for other examinees. After wandering around for ages without finding anyone, he was rather speechless. This made no sense. Where had everyone gone?
"What's going on? Why isn't there a single team of examinees nearby? This is seriously weird."
Just as Meihui was puzzling over this, he suddenly sensed someone ahead.
"Who's there? Come out."
"Don't get the wrong idea. It's me, Kabuto Yakushi." Wearing his glasses, Kabuto Yakushi emerged from the bushes with both hands raised.
Seeing that it was Kabuto Yakushi, Meihui relaxed.
"Kabuto, why are you all alone? Where did your teammates go?"
Of course, Meihui knew where his teammates had gone, but if he was going to put on an act, he had to see it through.
"I got separated from them, and I can't find them either. Speaking of which, where are Naruto and the others?"
Seeing that Meihui was alone too, Kabuto Yakushi asked the question with feigned concern.
"Naruto and Sasuke are resting at camp. I came out to check things out. By the way, Kabuto, which scroll do you have?"
"We have a Heaven Scroll, but we've already found an Earth Scroll too. What about you?"
The moment Kabuto Yakushi finished asking, he regretted it. Meihui's eyes gleamed red, his expression twisted grotesquely, and his smile began to look downright deranged. Kabuto Yakushi realized he had said the wrong thing.
"Then sorry for the trouble, Kabuto, but how about doing us a favor? We happen to be short one Heaven Scroll. Would you be willing to help?"
As Meihui spoke, he had already flashed over to Kabuto Yakushi's side. Looking at Meihui in front of him, Kabuto Yakushi certainly did not consider himself a match for him, so he could only part with his belongings to avoid trouble.
Kabuto Yakushi could only obediently hand the scroll over to Meihui. His meek demeanor almost made Meihui feel bad, but then he remembered that this man would become a major boss later on. He couldn't afford to go soft.
"I just love talking to smart people. Thanks, Kabuto! You're so good to your junior. Love you!" Hearing Meihui's smug words, Kabuto Yakushi was so furious that veins bulged on his forehead, but there was nothing he could do.
The moment Meihui got the scroll, he simply ran off, leaving Kabuto Yakushi dumbfounded. He had seen shameless people before, but never anyone this shameless. Was this guy even a ninja? How could he have so little shame?
Meihui vanished into the woods in a few swift movements, while Kabuto Yakushi remained rooted to the spot, his thoughts a mystery.
Once he was out of Kabuto Yakushi's sight, Meihui used Flying Thunder God to return straight to Naruto's side.
When Meihui saw the scene before him, he exploded with fury. Powerful chakra erupted around him, laced with wisps of scarlet chakra. Meihui was truly enraged.
